Plans to demolish The Haven community room in Burnhope
Durham County Council applied to pull down Burnhope’s former communal room at The Haven after labelling it “surplus to requirement”.
The structure, which is currently a single-storey brick building with a pitched roof, will be demolished using an excavator.
Once the building is taken down, the site will be levelled, graded, and covered with topsoil seeded with grass until a new use is established.
There is no specified date to start the demolition but it must begin within five years of the decision, which was made in writing on January 22.
A detailed demolition plan includes setting up exclusion fencing with warning signs and clearing internal items and debris.
The building will then be demolished starting from its west side with dust-reducing water suppression.
