Michael Carrick favourite after strong interim start

MICHAEL CARRICK is the odds-on favourite to be Manchester United’s manager for the first Premier League game of the 2026-27 season.

The interim boss has enjoyed a stellar start to his time in charge, with impressive victories over title rivals Manchester City and Arsenal

Betfair: Next Manchester United manager odds

Man Utd manager on opening day of 2026/27 season

  • Michael Carrick – 13/8
  • Oliver Glasner – 11/4
  • Gareth Southgate – 6/1
  • Thomas Tuchel – 10/1
  • Julian Nagelsmann – 14/1
  • Luis Enrique – 20/1

He had previously been a shade of odds-on, though that price with the bookmakers has drifted somewhat.

He’ll hope that that continues if he wants the job full-time, with United left with a free run at the league after their desperate performances in the cups this year.

Should they secure top-level European football, that may well be enough to see him pick up the gig.

The Austrian goes down an Eagles legend after that FA Cup and subsequent Community Shield win.

Meanwhile it’s well documented how highly Gareth Southgate is thought of by the United hierarchy and he remains firmly in the picture at 6/1.

England boss Thomas Tuchel is 10/1, with Julian Nagelsmann 14/1 and Luis Enrique a 20/1 shot.
