Harry Maguire was caught up in a war of words with Gabriel after the two sides clashed at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday evening, in which Manchester United ran out 3-2 winners

Newly released footage reveals Arsenal’s Gabriel Magalhaes declining to shake hands with Harry Maguire following Manchester United’s victory on Sunday. United clinched a thrilling 3-2 win at the Emirates Stadium, thanks to Matheus Cunha’s decisive goal in the 87th minute.

After a gripping encounter, it meant that United secured all three points, dealing a blow to Arsenal’s Premier League title aspirations. Toward the end of the match, a clash between Maguire and Gabriel resulted in the Arsenal defender ending up on the ground.

The tension continued even after referee Craig Pawson signalled the end of the game. The footage, shared by Malaysian broadcaster Stadium Astro, shows Gabriel refusing to accept Maguire’s offer of a handshake as a peace gesture.

Noussair Mazraoui is then seen observing the situation and approaching the pair. Mazraoui then pushes Gabriel, who was shouting at Maguire, causing further agitation.

Senne Lammens then steps in to restrain Gabriel, guiding him towards the tunnel. Maguire was then free to celebrate the dramatic win while Gabriel retreated to recover.

“It was absolutely massive,” the United star told Sky Sports, adding: “We know that the first game [under Michael Carrick], the [Manchester] Derby at Old Trafford, you’re always up for them, and you know that one-off results can happen, so we had to back it up today.

“We spoke about it before the game, coming to the league leaders, who have been excellent this year, I must say, they ask a lot of questions of you, to come here and have the setback late on to get the winner, it was a magnificent performance.”

Maguire’s individual display earned him player of the match and plenty of plaudits, with England legend Gary Lineker describing the defender as “one of the most underrated players in football.”

Speaking on The Rest Is Football, Lineker said: “I know people have a pop at him, even people in the game have a pop at him, and I know that he can be turned by a striker with pace, but he makes up for it to a degree with his intelligence.

“He can play as well, he’s good on the ball and he’s never let England down when he’s played for his country.

“I would also say he’s bloody brilliant in both boxes from set-pieces. There is an obvious weakness with the slight lack of pack but he’s got the experience to handle that.”
