Arsenal are currently the favourites to lift the Premier League title this season but Manchester United icon Paul Scholes has seriously questioned their credentials ahead of the run-in
Paul Scholes has claimed Arsenal will be ‘the worst team to ever win the Premier League’ should the Gunners finally get over the line. Mikel Arteta has the North London side stationed at the top of the table with a four-point advantage over nearest rivals Manchester City.
But Arsenal have wobbled over recent weeks, taking just two points from their last three Premier League games – a run that includes the late 3-2 defeat to Manchester United at the weekend.
And even if Arteta’s side hold their nerve and secure the trophy over the closing months of the campaign, United icon Scholes would remain unconvinced, having claimed that only one Arsenal star would get in the team of the season.
Speaking on The Good, the Bad and the Football, he said: “If Arsenal win the league, this could be the worst team to win the league. If you’re thinking of picking a team of the season and picking the front four, nobody from the Arsenal team gets in that.

“Look at previous champions – Liverpool’s forwards, brilliant. Possibly the only one is Saka, and I don’t think he’s been brilliant. He’s not scored many goals this year or assists.”
Scholes is not the only pundit to have questioned Arsenal’s credentials as would-be champions. Former star Patrick Vieira also took aim at the North London side following the weekend’s defeat to United and claimed that they may not have the correct mentality to rise to the pressure of a title race.
Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: “They’re still four points clear, but there’s still questions about the mental strength of the team It’s not just that they lost the game, it’s the way they lost the game. (Bukayo) Saka and (Leandro) Trossard didn’t produce enough to worry United.

“They need a leader to lift the spirit of the team. They need to understand when they are on the pitch they have to play with more energy and more risks. They have the quality. They didn’t play with the freedom to express themselves.”
Arsenal take a break from their push to win the title in midweek as they take on Kairat in their final Champions League group stage game of the season. Arteta’s side have already sealed themselves a spot in the last 16. Their next league game pits them against Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon, while challengers Man City go to Tottenham on Sunday.
