Gamekeeper and farmer save GP and medics in Dales storm
The incident took place yesterday on Askrigg Moor after an ambulance had been called to help a patient in the Dales.
However, as paramedics attempted to reach the casualty, the ambulance became stuck on the exposed moorland road.

A gamekeeper from the Gunnerside Estate came across the stranded crew.
Using his local knowledge and equipment, he worked with a local farmer and pulled the ambulance free from the snow.
They also helped a GP who was stuck while on his way to work.
Darren Chadwick, coordinator of the Yorkshire Dales Moorland Group, said: āThe gamekeeper discovered both the stranded ambulance and a local doctor.
āQuick thinking Lewis risked himself in the blizzard conditions of Storm Chandra to go and get a tractor with his farming friend Stephen from Askrigg.
“With the medical teams isolated high on this precarious moorland road, time was critical and the keeper and farmer response was potentially life-saving for so many reasons.
āThis is what Dales life can look like in dire situations.
“Local knowledge, experience and skills all combining to safeguard rural communities.ā
The Central Dales Practice has issued a message of thanks to those involved, praising the swift response.
The medical centre posted on social media: “Big shout out and thank you to the local farming and gamekeeping community for helping some of our team members who were stuck on Askrigg Moor this morning.”
