Max actor Jake Wood began playing the womaniser on the BBC soap in 2006
EastEnders fans have said the same thing over the BBC soap’s Max Branning star’s birthday tribute to his son on social media.
It’s been a busy period for Max on Albert Square, with actor Jake Wood returning to the role for the first time in four years. Max had not been seen since 2021, when his affair with Linda Carter was exposed and Danny Dyer’s Mick Carter was after him.
It was revealed through a flashback sequence that Max was having an affair with Stacey Slater’s cousin Zoe in spite of their turbulent history together. Zoe and Max’s unison was cut short when she accidentally stole £5,000 from him, after she was assaulted by a Private Investigator.
Eventually gatecrashing his daughter Lauren Branning’s wedding to Peter Beale in the Queen Vic, Max was immediately back to his old ways. After learning that he was the father of Linda’s daughter Annie, Max made a series of bad decisions that led to him being cast out by his family.
Getting into a fight with his brother Jack Branning on Christmas Day, Max ended up sleeping with Cindy Beale, not knowing that she was his daughter’s mother-in-law. To make things worse, Cindy believes he was responsible for her son Stephen’s death.
On New Year’s Day (January 1), viewers were treated to the programme’s first ever fast-forward episode. Set in 2017, Max was seen waking up beside a mystery woman on his wedding day, with his bride’s identity also under wraps.
Following an episode which saw him arrested for solicitation, a stunning cliffhanger saw Max receive a call from a gunman who was holding his children Lauren and Oscar hostage. The next year will see viewers receive clues that’ll allow them to slowly piece together what was actually happening.
Away from the soap, Jake has been married to his wife Alison Wood since 2001, renewing their vows in front of their friends and family back in 2018. The happy couple share two children together, daughter Amber and Buster.
Taking to Instagram over the weekend, Jake shared a number of images of Buster from over the years to celebrate his youngest child’s 18th birthday.
He captioned his post: “HAPPY 18th BIRTHDAY BUSTER!!!! Everyone loves you so much!!! Keep doing what you are doing, stay true to yourself and continue being the thoughtful, funny, caring, talented and amazing young man you have grown up to be and who we are so incredibly proud of always.”
The comments section of Jake’s post saw his followers rushing to wish Buster a very happy birthday. However, many of them couldn’t get over the strong resemblance he has to his famous father.
The Only Way Is Essex’s Dan Osbourne said: “In that first picture, Buster looks more like you than you look like you!” @zoelac1909 added: “That first pic is a young max branning.”
