Integrated Farming System (IFS) Combinations and Management
Based on guidelines from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) and ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research), here is the breakdown of how to manage these combinations effectively:
1. Cattle š + Goat š (Livestock Integration)
This is a very safe and low-risk combination. Goats are excellent at consuming the leftover fodder and tough fibers (like groundnut haulms or jackfruit leaves) that cattle often leave behind.
ā¢ Method: You can utilize a section of the cattle shed for goats.
ā¢ Profit Tip: Convert cattle dung and fodder waste into high-quality manure to grow green fodder (like Co-4 or Co-5), which serves as a primary food source for both animals.
2. Cattle š + Poultry š
This combination is highly profitable due to biological pest control.
ā¢ Method: You can raise poultry using the “Deep Litter” system. The chickens will scavenge for ticks and insects in the cattle shed, which naturally reduces the risk of diseases spreading to the cattle.
ā¢ Profit Tip: While poultry droppings can be processed into cattle feed in small amounts, they are most profitable when used as high-nutrient organic fertilizer for your fodder crops.
3. Fish š + Duck š¦ (Duck-cum-Fish Culture)
This is considered a “super-hit” combo in integrated farming.
ā¢ Method: Build the duck house directly over or adjacent to the fish pond. The duck droppings fall into the water and act as a natural fertilizer, promoting the growth of plankton (fish food).
ā¢ Profit Tip: As ducks swim, they naturally aerate the water, increasing oxygen levels. This helps the fish grow significantly faster. Note: 200ā300 ducks per hectare is the ideal ratio.
4. Goat š + Fish š (Goat-cum-Fish)
ā¢ Method: Position the goat shed near the pond so that the waste can be easily channeled into the water to act as organic manure.
ā¢ Scientific Fact: One ton of goat manure contains approximately 10kg of Nitrogen and 3kg of Phosphorus, which are essential for maintaining a healthy aquatic ecosystem for fish.
5. Goat š + Poultry š + Cattle š (The Triple Combo)
This is the most complete farm model for total sustainability.
ā¢ Layout:
ā¢ Cattle in the center (providing the bulk of the manure).
ā¢ Goats on the periphery (requiring less maintenance).
ā¢ Poultry either on a mezzanine floor or in a separate corner.
ā¢ Integrated Cycle: Use the cattle dung to produce Biogas for energy. The resulting biogas slurry is an excellent fertilizer for green fodder, which then feeds the cattle and goats.
š°Key Rules for Maximum Profit:
ā¢ Waste Management: The most significant advantage is that the waste or byproduct of one animal becomes the food or fertilizer for another, reducing your total feed costs by 30ā40%.
ā¢ Space Saving: By using vertical farming or layered shed designs, you can raise multiple species on a much smaller footprint of land.
ā¢ Risk Reduction: This system provides a diversified income stream; if the price of milk
drops, your income from goat sales or poultry can act as a financial safety net.

The US under President Donald Trump positions itself as a pro-crypto hub to foster innovation. Trumpās family even has its own digital tokens. China under President Xi Jinping has imposed a strict ban on domestic trading and mining of digital currency since 2019. Because of that crackdown, China now controls significant Bitcoin reserves following the government seizure of illegally mined and traded digital tokens.
But a crypto-trading ban doesnāt mean Chinaās opposed to embracing blockchain, the core technology that enables crypto currency. While the US focuses on market-driven growth, China is testing state-backed digital currency and utilising Hong Kong as a regulated, compliant hub for digital asset innovation.
In this episode of Asia Specific, host Mariko Oi is joined by Sam Reynolds, a senior reporter at cryptocurrency media outlet CoinDesk, and Angela Ang, the head of policy and strategic partnerships at blockchain intelligence company TRM Labs.
