The Government is concerned about the rising cost of living sparked by the US war
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer will hold a Cobra meeting on Monday to address the economic impact of the Iran war, having been warned that price rises are “inescapable”. There are increasing concerns about how the Iran conflict could affect the cost of living, and the Government is keen to deter people from panic-buying fuel.

Cabinet ministers are expected to join Sir Keir, including Chancellor Rachel Reeves, Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper and Energy Secretary Ed Miliband, as well as the governor of the Bank of England. As well as the economic impact of the crisis, they will discuss energy security and the resilience of industry and supply chains alongside the international response.
On Sunday, the chief executive of Centrica, which owns British Gas, said global oil supplies are already down 20% because of the conflict. Chris O’Shea told BBC’s Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg programme: “Cornwall Insight, I think, have predicted that there’s going to be an increase in prices.
“If it stays as it is then I think that’s inescapable. The world uses about 100 million barrels of oil a day. We’ve lost about 20% of that through the Strait of Hormuz.”
Housing minister Steve Reed, meanwhile, urged people to carry on as normal. He told Sky News’ Sunday Morning with Trevor Phillips: “There’s no need to ration fuel. People should go around and buy their fuel just like they always would.

“If the situation were to change, then the Government would look at what was required in that circumstance.”
Lord Richard Walker, the cost-of-living tsar, said he had “asked the Government to consider a temporary profit cap, if required, to stop producers and retailers exploiting the crisis to make windfall profits at the expense of consumers”.
Sir Keir Starmer spoke to US President Donald Trump on Sunday about the need to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The call lasted for 20 minutes and was constructive, it is understood.
The president has criticised Sir Keir’s response to the war last week, describing him as “no Winston Churchill”.

The Conservatives have said the Government should scrap “green taxes” to cut costs, and shadow housing secretary Sir James Cleverly suggested North Sea oil and gas fields should be opened. Ministers have said the UK will not be dragged into a wider war in the Middle East, but Iran’s missile attack on the joint US-UK base Diego Garcia has demonstrated that Europe could now be within reach.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Iran has “everyone in their sights”. He told reporters: “I’ve been warning all the time. They have now the capacity to reach deep into Europe. They already have fired on a European country, Cyprus. They are putting everyone in their sights.”
Early on Sunday, Mr Trump wrote on Truth Social that Iran had 48 hours to “FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz”, or the US would “obliterate” Iran’s power plants. Mr Reed would not be drawn on whether he backs the deadline, but said a swift end to the war would be the best way to alleviate price rises.
The international break arrives at a good time for Chelsea.
This is their worst slump of a disappointing season, with four straight defeats in all competitions seeing the Blues knocked out of the Champions League and damaging their hopes of making it back into the competition next season.
Here, Standard Sport assesses four problems Rosenior needs to fix if Chelsea are to make a success of their difficult seven-game run-in and qualify for the Champions League.
Cut out individual errors
Advertisement
When Rosenior spoke in his post-match press conference at Everton and talked of “lapses in concentration” happening “too many times recently”, he was referring to the unforced errors that have dogged Chelsea for weeks.
It has been a period full of individual mistakes. Filip Jorgensen’s errors against Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg, Mamadou Sarr’s slip-up in the second, Robert Sanchez’s howler at Everton – errors are a part of football but rotten moments have been all too common for Chelsea of late. They have contributed to their form nosediving.

There is not a great deal the head coach can do to prevent more of them. Instead, players must take personal responsibility and maintaining in-game focus is a must. Huge games await Chelsea and they cannot afford to keep being punished from their own unforced errors.
This is something Chelsea absolutely must improve if they are to finish in the top four or five.
Their four defeats on the bounce against PSG (twice), Newcastle and Everton have come with an aggregate score of 12-2 to their opponents, and yet, incredibly, it is Chelsea who won those matches on aggregate on the xG metric.
While that implies positives about their ability to reach the final third and make chances, what it means for the quality of their finishing is damning.
Chelsea have slipped to sixth in the Premier League

For the first time since September 2023, Chelsea have now gone three consecutive games without finding the net, and they have lacked a cutting edge and a decisiveness in front of goal. Matvei Safonov in the PSG second leg and Jordan Pickford at the Hill Dickinson both put in outstanding performances, but it was up to Chelsea in both cases to be more ruthless and give the goalkeepers no chance.
The most damning statistic of all was doing the rounds in the aftermath of their battering at Everton and understandably commanded a mention on Match of the Day. Chelsea, it has been confirmed, have been outrun in every single Premier League game this season.
For a team hopeful of being back in Europe’s premier competition next season, that is such a poor look. It is a run that spans no fewer than 31 matches and the tenures of two head coaches, signifying something endemic within the team.
How can Chelsea expect to achieve want they wish to if they are being outfought by everyone they come up against, teams better than them and teams far worse? It feels reductive to suggest that a team must work harder, as if to simplify more complex issues. And yet for Chelsea it is clearly the case.

Improve defensive organisation
Rosenior has chopped and changed his back four (or three) for almost every game of his 19-match tenure, sometimes enforced by injury but often not.
It has led to confusion and disjointedness in defence for a team who have shipped more league goals than Brighton, Sunderland, and 14th-place Crystal Palace.
Wesley Fofana’s poor recent form has epitomised the erosion of Chelsea’s defensive resolve in recent weeks. Supposedly a fast and agile centre-back with great recovery pace, his ropey defending with back to goal made possible Ousmane Dembele’s goal at the Parc des Princes and Anthony Gordon’s winner at Stamford Bridge, as well as Beto’s opener on Saturday.

Chelsea’s last Premier League clean sheet came all the way back on January 17.
It was Rosenior’s very first league game in charge of a team who, in many aspects, have since gone backwards.
Bea is determined to stay where she is after finding a place to stay at Honey’s (Picture: BBC / Jack Barnes / Kieron McCarron)
Bea Pollard has made quite an impression on EastEnders fans since rocking up in the Square earlier this year, introduced as an old acquaintance of Linda Carter (Kellie Bright).
Having only recently returned to Walford at the time, Linda was clearly unsettled by the idea of revisiting her past, and she even considered pulling out altogether.
However, her mum, Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe) was determined not to let her hide away, convincing Linda that she needs to get herself out there.

Honey Mitchell (Emma Barton) was left thrilled at the prospect of attending the reunion and eagerly volunteered to go along for moral support and a night out.
Together, Linda and Honey headed to the event, but things quickly take an unexpected turn when Bea rocked up – and this led to a series of events in the months since as Bea will and truly made her presence felt.
Who is Bea in EastEnders?
Bea is an old school friend of Linda’s. Her debut appearance came in January when Linda improvised at the school reunion and handed Honey a name tag which said ‘Bea’ to get her into the event.
The real Bea Pollard subsequently turned up at the reunion, exposing the lie and setting the stage for an explosive confrontation.
What does Bea have in store for Walford? (Picture: BBC)
According to Bea, Linda was far from innocent at school and allegedly bullied her, a claim that leaves Honey shocked and Linda visibly rattled. It’s clear that Bea and Linda remember their past very differently, and the uncomfortable exchange forces Linda to confront aspects of her younger self that she’d rather forget.
Though Linda disputed her version of events, she decided that she should make amends for what Bea felt during their time at high school and thus invited her to stay at Peacock Palace after she was kicked out of her home.

Billy returned home last week and found Bea’s presence unsettling as she grew closer to the Janet and Will. When Honey returns home this week, the situation escalates further, making for some intense scenes along the way.

Who plays Bea in EastEnders?
Bea Pollard is played by Ronni Ancona, a hugely recognisable face to British TV audiences.
Ronni takes on her first soap role (Picture: Getty Images)
Best known for her work on sketch shows such as ‘The Big Impression’, Ronni has built a career on sharp comedy, uncanny impressions, and memorable character performances. She’s also appeared in hit series, including Still Game and Skins, making her a familiar and respected figure across the industry.
Initial details were deliberately vague, teasing that Bea and Linda would come face-to-face at a high school reunion in the new year, with hints that their shared history wasn’t as straightforward as it first appeared.
At the time of the announcement, Ronni said: ‘I am honoured to have been invited to join the iconic institution that is EastEnders, and to go on this whirlwind of a journey with such an unpredictable, nuanced and complex character as Bea. I hope audiences have as much fun watching her as I have had bringing her to life.’

This role marks Ronni’s first appearance on EastEnders, but the soap holds a special place in her career history. She famously spoofed the show and its characters in sketch shows, including a well-known parody filmed on the very bench in Albert Square where her first EastEnders scene takes place.
‘Stepping onto the actual set for the first time was an especially strange experience,’ Ronni admitted. ‘My first scene was on the bench in the middle of Albert Square, exactly where Alastair and I once filmed our sketch The Bench of Tears.
She also shared a surreal moment filming inside The Queen Vic, recalling her much-loved impression of the late Barbara Windsor as Peggy Mitchell. ‘I couldn’t help remembering my impression of Peggy, which mostly involved me shuffling around on my knees in padded knee guards because Barbara was so much shorter than I am,’ she laughed.
Thankfully, the current cast have embraced her arrival, with Ronni revealing that Jessie Wallace even did Ronni’s own impression of Kat Slater back to her on set.
As for what’s next, Ronni has teased that viewers should expect ‘lots of twists and turns and lots of unexpected developments’ as Bea settles into life in Walford.

The expansion by VetMedi.co.uk aims to meet a growing demand for affordable pet healthcare.
The Veterinary Medicines Directorate accredited dispensary has recently created three jobs, with further rolers in dispensary, warehouse and office teams expected in the coming year.
The new premises allows the online pharmacy, founded in 2021, to triple its daily order capacity. More storage space and better vehicle access will help fuel future growth.
This comes has the company reports 85% year-on-year growth in medicine sales as pet owners seek better value during the cost-of-living crisis.
Founded by North Yorkshire veterinarian Dr. Charlotte Inness, the business has transitioned from a home-run operation into a million-pound enterprise.
After hitting the seven-figure mark in just its second year of trading in 2023, VetMedi continues its upward trajectory, with revenues projected to reach £8million in 2026.

Today, VetMedi operates a nationwide digital platform delivering prescription veterinary medicines, nutrition and supplements and health supplies directly to doorsteps across the UK. This is complemented by a local dispensary, providing a personal touch and immediate service for the local community.
VetMedi founder Dr Charlotte Inness said: “Moving to our new space in Sutton-on-the-Forest was the natural next step in our journey. We are incredibly proud of our Yorkshire roots. These larger premises allow us to deliver expert support not only to our local community, but to a rapidly expanding customer base nationwide.”
Dr. Inness – whose 14 year veterinary career has seen her care for animals in the UK and Australia – added: “Looking back at how VetMedi started at a kitchen table, progressed to a garage, and has now moved into this professional office space and dedicated warehouse, it feels like an absolute privilege.”
“It is particularly rewarding to know we are providing a vital service. While we are a national player, we remain committed to our local customers, offering a fast delivery service and the option to collect directly from our premises to save on postage and further reduce growing animal veterinary care costs.”
Amid widespread rumours about a shake-up ahead of this year’s season of Strictly, The Sun published a piece over the weekend claiming that the spin-off show’s presenters Janette Manrara and Fleur East were being “axed” in further changes to the franchise.
However, a spokesperson for the show has now issued a statement to Metro refuting this version of events.
“It is factually incorrect to claim that either [Janette or Fleur] has been ‘axed’,” they said, adding that “plans for Strictly Come Dancing 2026 will be confirmed in due course”.
Janette was previously a Strictly pro for eight seasons before landing the role as host of It Takes Two in 2021.

After two seasons co-hosting with Rylan Clark, he was replaced by former Strictly contestant Fleur.
Karen told her Instagram followers over the weekend: “After 14 years on Strictly Come Dancing, I’ve decided this is the right time for me to close this chapter and take on new projects in other areas that I’m passionate about.
“Strictly completely changed my life, not only as a performer and a teacher, but as a human being. I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many incredible people, and brilliant celebrity partners who have become close friends and people I admire so much.”
They involve stepping backwards with one leg, while the other leg bends at the knee.
It’s a “variation of a [regular, forward] lunge, with a lot less impact at the knee,” strength coach Dr Baird shared.
Why are they easier on the knees?
Rather like reverse (or “retro”) walking, simply facing backwards takes a lot of the load off of your knee joints.
In the case of reverse lunges, it places some of the strain on your glutes instead.
And the move also means you’ll be less likely to lean too far forward at your knee in the lowering stage, which can harm your knees further.
A 2016 paper found that reverse lunges were best at building glute and quadriceps while applying lower force onto the knee.
Bonus points: reverse lunges also strengthen the muscles around your knees and lubricate the joint, helping reduce pain, lower the risk of future injury, and improve range of motion.
How do I do a “reverse lunge”?
Stand with your feet hip-width apart. Engage your core.
Then, take a step back with your right foot, placing the ball of the foot on the floor.
Leave your left foot flat on the ground and lower yourself until your left thigh is parallel to the ground and your right knee is on, or near, the floor.
Ensure your left knee is above your left ankle; don’t lean too far forward either at the knee or with your torso.
Push through the left leg to straighten back up, then switch legs.
Speaking with the AARP, personal trainer April Hattori said, “aim for three sets of 10, twice a week”.

After what feels like centuries of grim, wet winter; spring has finally sprung (meteorological spring started on 1 March).
The weather seems to have gotten the memo, with sightings of the sun already starting to transform the mental wellbeing of people up and down the nation – including yours truly.
At the beginning of the season, however, the transitional weather can be particularly hard to predict. You might leave the house feeling pretty chilly, start sweating on your lunch break, and be back to seeing your breath again by sunset.

The key to dressing right for the season is by layering, but it doesn’t have to be all function, no fashion.
Here’s a list of some of the best (and most chic) layerable buys on the high street to get you started.
ICE agents will be deployed to major airports across the United States beginning today in a bid to help security agents.
For more than a month, TSA agents across the US have been affected by a partial government shutdown, leading to long lines and longer waits in airport terminals.
Many of the TSA agents haven’t been paid during the lingering shutdown, leading many to walk off the job until the government is up and running again.
Trump posted a rambling Truth Social, explaining the change: ‘The Radical Left Democrats have hurt so many people with their vicious and uncaring ways. What they have done to the Department of Homeland Security, our fantastic TSA Officers, and, most importantly, the great people of our Country, is an absolute disgrace.
‘If the Democrats do not allow for Just and Proper Security at our Airports, and elsewhere throughout our Country, ICE will do the job far better than ever done before! The Fascist Democrats will never protect America, but the Republicans will.
‘Just like the Radical Left allowed millions of Criminals to pour into our Country through their ridiculous and dangerous Open Border Policy, the Republicans closed it all down, and we now have the Strongest Border in American History. Likewise, I look forward to moving ICE in on Monday, and have already told them to, “GET READY.”’
Here’s what to know.
What to know about ICE in the airport
Trump said he looks forward to moving ICE in (Picture: AP)
To combat the delays, however, Donald Trump had a brilliant idea – deploy his immigration officers to 14 airports.
JFK and LaGuardia in New York, Newark, Philadelphia, Chicago, Atlanta, New Orleans, Houston and Phoenix will all have ICE officers on site to ‘help out’.
Despite widespread worry, Atlanta mayor Andre Dickens reassured his city that ICE will only operate under the TSA, and not in any immigration matters.
ICE officers will be used to help with queue management and crowd control, inside domestic terminals only, he said.
Tom Homan, Trump’s ‘border czar’, told CNN: ‘There are TSA agents covering exits. People who enter through the exits.
‘Certainly, a highly trained ICE law enforcement officer can cover an exit, make sure people don’t go through those exits, and enter an airport through the exits.’
TSA lines have been lengthy with severe delays (Picture: Reuters)
‘Stuff like that relieves the TSA officer to go to screening and to reduce those lines. I don’t see an ICE agent looking at an X-ray machine because they’re not trained in that,’ he added.
‘There are certain parts of security that TSA’s doing that we can move them off those jobs and put them in the specialised jobs and help them move those lines.’
As of now, it appears the ICE agents won’t be doing TSA agents’ jobs, but rather filling in gaps and helping with crowd control.
However, Trump said in a post on Truth Social that ICE agents would ‘do Security [sic] like no one has ever seen before, including the immediate arrest of all Illegal Immigrants [sic]’.

What are your rights with TSA?
ICE agents have already been spotted at airports in Louisiana (Picture: PA)
Travellers in US airports are required to comply with TSA screening procedures.
If questioned by law enforcement in the airport – which includes ICE agents – citizens have the right to remain silent, and need only answer questions pertaining to their travel plans and identity.
The ACLU notes that you could face detainment or further inspection if you refuse to give over your phone.
The ACLU added that ICE doesn’t have authority to detain or question US citizens without cause, and those on visas and green cards also have rights.
They are only required to answer questions related to their immigration status.
Billed as a relegation six-pointer and a must-win game, Spurs buckled under the pressure and collapsed to a 3-0 defeat that leaves them just one point above the bottom three.
It saw Spurs come crashing back down to earth after a deserved point won away at Liverpool the week prior was followed up by a rousing win over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
It means current manager Igor Tudor has lost five and drawn one of his six Premier League games in charge, and is under serious threat of the sack.
But who could Spurs turn to as a replacement for Tudor?

Sean Dyche is again most heavily tipped by the bookmakers, ahead of fan favourite Mauricio Pochettino and former Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi.
The return of former Spurs players Ryan Mason and Robbie Keane have been warm in the betting, though it remains to be seen if either fancy the task of saving the club from the drop.
One former Tottenham man who has confirmed his eagerness for the role is Harry Redknapp, but having been out of work for nine years, it would be quite the bold move to hand him the reins.

From thereon, the odds get more and more fanciful, but a name which has gained traction in recent days is that of Adi Hutter.
The 56-year-old Austrian was earlier this season sacked by Monaco, and has been out of work since.
Reports of interest from Spurs in Hutter first emerged last week in Italy, and were echoed by the Telegraph on Sunday following Sunday’s miserable defeat.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) were called to a crash between two cars on Holcombe Road yesterday, March 22, at around 6pm.
