Taylor Sheridan's 'Landman' Season 2 Overtakes Season 1 on Rotten Tomatoes

Recently, the prolific Taylor Sheridan shocked the world by making the huge announcement that he’s leaving Paramount, sending his fanbase into chaos. However, the perfect antidote for such news is the arrival of one of Sheridan’s best shows, back for its second season. The Billy Bob Thornton-led neo-Western series Landman, which debuts its second season on Sunday, November 16, is sure to top the streaming charts, following on from the record-breaking streaming success of the first season.

However, ahead of its arrival, the first reviews from critics have landed, and many are wondering whether Sheridan and co. can strike gold once again. The answer isn’t positive; it is a resounding yes, with Landman Season 2 officially landing an early rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes higher than that of the opening season. With a rating of 83% at the time of writing, Landman Season 2 is supposedly 5% better than the first outing, which scored a certified fresh 78%. The critics’ consensus on the site for Season 1 reads, “Landman plumbs much of the same territory as other Taylor Sheridan-penned series, but having Billy Bob Thornton on hand turns this Texas crude into highly watchable fuel.”

Collider’s Jeff Ewing awarded Season 2 a 6/10 in his review, a score below the average rating on Rotten Tomatoes. “Season 2 of Landman is ultimately showing signs of more promise after its first three episodes, with [Demi] Moore already delivering a strong performance for a complex character,” Ewing wrote, following a viewing of the opening three episodes. He continued, “It’s impossible to say what Landman‘s true trajectory will be this season, but it’s already a bit closer to a well that hits than it was the first time around. Now, it just has to stick the landing.”

‘Landman’ Will Fight Two Other Sheridan Projects for Streaming Supremacy

Landman‘s arrival on Paramount+, even with the recent shocking news of Sheridan’s departure, is sure to prove hugely popular. To rise straight to the top of the streaming charts, Landman will have to overcome another two Sheridan projects in Tulsa King and Mayor of Kingstown, with both joining the likes of the adult animated hit South Park and the long-running NCIS at the top of the Paramount+ charts.

Landman Season 2 is streaming on Paramount+. Make sure to stay tuned to Collider for the latest streaming updates from the biggest shows.
