Prime Video’s 8-Part Comedy Series Is Quietly Becoming Its Best Show Ever After Season 2’s Release
Back in 2023, Amazon Freevee released a show so unique and experimental, it was shocking that they even pulled it off. Jury Duty, which premiered on April 7, 2023, is a mockumentary series in which one real person, Ronald Gladden, thinks he’s ordered to attend to jury duty, only for everyone around him to be an actor messing with him at every turn. The series went on to become a major streaming hit for Freevee and Prime Video, earning not only a Season 2 renewal, but four Emmy nominations.
So, of course, stakes were high for the second season. After all, with the first season out in the world, would creators Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky be able to pull off another successful season? As it turns out, the answer is a resounding yes. On March 20, 2026, Prime Video released the first three episodes of the sophomore season, titled Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat, and the installment proves that while the series is certainly a unique and ambitious piece of TV, it’s a formula that works time and time again.
What Is ‘Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat’ About?
Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat follows Anthony Norman, a temporary assistant hired by the family-owned hot sauce company Rockin’ Grandma’s to help out during their annual week-long retreat. The retreat is also a major turning point for the small but mighty team as CEO Doug (Jerry Hauk) is getting ready to retire and hand off the company to his tone-deaf son, Dougie (Alex Bonifer). From the very first episode, Anthony realizes that the retreat will be far from drama-free when his boss, the well-meaning HR Director Kevin (Ryan Perez), proposes to a coworker and leaves abruptly when the proposal goes awry. With no other choice, Anthony is left to pick up the pieces and rise to the occasion to help the company stay together.
In each episode, Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat follows sitcom beats being played out in real time for Anthony that comedy audiences know and love. Storylines so far include Dougie’s disastrous new project launch for the company, Other Anthony (Rob Lathan) finding a sex toy and deciding to drink from it, and a robbery of a box of Cool Ranch Doritos. In addition to all the hilarious moments, the series also creates a classic underdog story with Rockin’ Grandma’s being a small company on the verge of being bought out by a larger corporate entity, a situation that’s far too frequent in this day and age.
Plus, while Jury Duty brought together “random” strangers for a court summons, Company Retreat has Anthony coming in as a newcomer in an environment with pre-established dynamics, traditions, and problem-makers. So, as audiences get to know each of the characters along with Anthony, writers had the freedom to create a more in-depth lore for the cast, including office politics, romance, and a nepo-baby successor. Among the cast highlights so far are Rachel Kaly‘s Claire, Jim Woods‘ Jimmy and LaNisa Renee Frederick‘s Jackie. Like the best comedy casts, the Rockin’ Grandma’s ensemble is at its best all together, playing off each other like they’ve been doing it for years. In each of those scenes, Anthony is welcomed in like one of their own, becoming not only a necessary part of the dynamics, but a charismatic lead too.
‘Jury Duty’ Found Another Lead Just as Endearing as Ronald Gladden
In many ways, what made Jury Duty so great the first time around was how endearing and empathetic Gladden was. He never judged his fellow jurors, was always a helping hand, and even made sweet gestures (like watching A Bug’s Life with David Brown‘s Todd) to make them feel seen and heard. In Company Retreat, the series found another incredible hero in Anthony. In the three episodes so far, Anthony embraces the weirdness of the team, showing off just how likable and committed he is to keep the retreat going even when things take a turn. When Kevin abruptly leaves, for instance, he has a candid moment with Blair Beeken‘s Marjorie about what to do, but soon comes back in the room and keeps everyone’s spirits high as the new “Captain Fun.” He rolls with the punches, keeps a positive attitude, and never loses his cool.
“More than familiar sitcom tropes and reality show shenanigans, Company Retreat highlights the compassion and kindness of one man,” wrote Meredith Loftus in her review for Collider. “Despite only having known these people for less than a week, Anthony weaves himself effortlessly into the Rockin’ Grandma’s family. He may laugh at the hilarity of certain situations, but he’s never making fun of or mocking his new coworkers.” So, by picking another lead who’s sweet and charming in his own way, Jury Duty has once again struck comedy gold.
With only three episodes out so far, Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat is already shaping up to be another hit for Prime Video. Currently at #5 in the US streaming charts, per FlixPatrol, the series has all the right ingredients: a new hilarious cast of characters, wild storylines, and a compassionate lead at the heart of the show. Despite the change in setting, Company Retreat is turning out to be just as delightful as its predecessor.

Britney Spears Spotted in Public for 1st Time Since DUI
Britney Spears was spotted out and about for the first time since her recent DUI arrest.
According to a photo obtained by social media fan page BritneysVault, the pop star, 44, was seen at the Malibu Country Mart shopping center on Sunday, March 22. In the pic, she is shown ordering a beverage from Starbucks.
Spears wore black sunglasses and a long brown coat while waiting in line. She also held an orange purse.
Earlier this month, Spears was arrested near her home in Ventura County, California, “on suspicion of driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs,” per a press release from the California Highway Patrol. The singer was taken into custody late in the evening on March 4 and sent to a hospital to test her blood alcohol content. She was subsequently booked and released the following morning.
“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,” Spears’ rep told Us Weekly at the time. “Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”
Spears’ rep added that the “Toxic” singer will be surrounded by her friends and family — including sons Preston, 20, and Jayden, 19, — following the incident. (Spears shares Preston and Jayden with ex Kevin Federline.)

“Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue, needed plan to set her up for success for well-being,” the statement concluded.
Spears is scheduled to appear in court on May 4.
After news broke of Spears’ run-in with the law, a source exclusively told Us that the Grammy winner’s inner circle wants her to take the necessary steps that will allow her to prioritize her well-being.
“Her team wants her in rehab or a program to help her get to a better place,” an insider said. “Everyone around her hopes this will be a wake-up call for her.”
The source claimed that Spears’ behavior “has been worse recently.”
“She has a lot of alone time at home which leads her to make bad choices like drinking,” the insider alleged. “She’s at home now and [her son] Jayden is going to spend time with her to keep her company. Britney’s very upset but doesn’t truly understand the implications yet.”

Disney+’s 5-Part Superhero Series Is One of the Best on Any Platform
Disney+ has become the home of many a superhero series, most of them based on Marvel heroes. It’s not surprising, since the House of Mouse purchased Marvel Entertainment in 2009 and has reaped the rewards ever since. But while fans might gravitate toward shows like Loki and WandaVision, the Disney+ library also contains animated and live-action Marvel shows. One of these shows, Spider-Man: The Animated Series, remains one of the most iconic Marvel adaptations of all time, due to how it brings the web-slinger’s mythos to life and how its influence continues to be felt to this day.
Spider-Man: The Animated Series once again follows Peter Parker (Christopher Daniel Barnes) as he juggles a college career, taking photographs for the Daily Bugle, and fighting crime as Spider-Man. What makes it stand out is how closely it replicates the format of the comics it’s based on, as each season features an overarching storyline. Nearly every character in Spider-Man’s orbit also shows up in Spider-Man: The Animated Series, whether it’s Spidey’s archnemesis, the Green Goblin (Neil Ross), or the love of his life, Mary Jane Watson (Saratoga Ballantine). Such a rich tapestry of characters was rare in a comic book adaptation, but it’s one of many elements that helped Spider-Man: The Animated Series stand out from the rest of the pack.
Famous Small Screen Adaptations — The Collider TV Quiz!
These films went from 16:9 all the way down to 4:3 (proverbially). How many of these movie-to-TV titles do you know?
‘Spider-Man: The Animated Series’ Kicked Off A Wave of Marvel Animated Projects
Spider-Man: The Animated Series was unique as the first animated series produced by Marvel Films Animation. It was also part of a massive push by Marvel into animation, as Iron Man and Fantastic Four would launch in the same year. Soon, other Marvel heroes would appear in Spider-Man: The Animated Series, as Spider-Man sought Doctor Strange’s help rescuing Mary Jane from a cult that worshiped the dread Dormammu and joined forces with Iron Man to battle the bloodthirsty Carnage. During a retrospective of the series, executive producer John Semper Jr. cited Marvel’s financial issues at the time as the reason he was able to utilize so many heroes.
“They were on the verge of bankruptcy, so Marvel publications exerted no control over my show whatsoever…I had the entire pantheon of Marvel characters available to me, none of them had been parceled out yet to all these movie studios. So I could say, ‘I want to do Doctor Strange.’ ‘Great. Do Doctor Strange.’ ‘I want to do X-Men.’ ‘Great, do X-Men.’”
Semper would push this idea to its limits in later seasons, particularly in Season 2’s “The Mutant Agenda” and Season 5’s “Secret Wars”. The former storyline brought Spidey into contact with the world of X-Men: The Animated Series, uniting two of Marvel’s biggest shows at the time. The latter took its cues from the iconic Secret Wars comic and featured Spidey working with other heroes, including Iron Man and the Fantastic Four, to save all reality. Long before the Marvel Cinematic Universe brought Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame to the big screen, Spider-Man: The Animated Series was uniting some of Marvel’s biggest heroes.
The Spider-Verse Is Finally Swinging Onto Disney+ (With a Catch)
Spider-Man being on Disney+ is now a canon event.
Spider-Man: The Animated Series‘s biggest claim to fame is introducing the concept of the ‘Spider-Verse’ during its two-part finale, “Spider-Wars.” While attempting to stop one of his alternate selves from destroying all existence, Spidey comes face to face with different versions of himself. It’s a concept that would fuel the Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions video game, alongside the Spider-Verse comics and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. X-Men ’97 also tied a dangling thread from the end of Spider-Man: The Animated Series by revealing that Peter had reunited with Mary Jane after she was catapulted into an alternate dimension, with the Spider-Man ’94 comic by J.M. DeMatteis and Jim Towe expanding on their reunion.
That isn’t the only piece of media that Spider-Man: The Animated Series has influenced, as it could provide a clue to what’s happening in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The first Brand New Day trailer features Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker undergoing a mysterious metamorphosis, which was tackled in the “Neogenic Nightmare” storyline during Spider-Man: The Animated Series. That story took a very dark turn as Spider-Man slowly mutated into a massive man-spider; if Brand New Day goes in the same direction, it’ll only be more proof that Spider-Man: The Animated Series remains iconic after all these years.

Kylie Jenner And Timothee Chalamet Talking About ‘Getting Engaged’
Kylie Jenner‘s romance with boyfriend Timothée Chalamet may soon evolve into a more permanent arrangement, as sources revealed they’ve both had serious conversations about their future together.
The reality TV star, who has always been open about her intention of welcoming another baby, has reportedly spoken with the “Marty Supreme” actor about it, alongside getting engaged down the line.
Kylie Jenner has also been getting to know Timothée Chalamet’s family, including his mom, who previously gushed about her, saying, “she’s lovely.”
Kylie Jenner And Timothée Chalamet Have Had’ Real Conversations About Their Future’

Since kicking off their relationship in 2023, Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet won’t stop showing just how much they love each other publicly, as they’re often seen hand-in-hand at industry events and award ceremonies.
More recently, the couple turned heads as they attended the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty, where they posed up a storm and packed on the PDA as Chalamet pecked her on her cheeks and placed a hand on her waist.
Sources told Us Weekly that they’re “very serious and committed to each other,” coupled with the fact that their relationship is “very strong and they have a good rhythm going.”
The insider went further to reveal that the lovebirds “definitely had a lot of real conversations about their future and what they both want” after Chalamet gushed over her as he accepted the best actor award at the 31st annual Critics’ Choice Awards.
The Couple Has ‘Talked About Getting Engaged’

During the event held January 4, 2026, at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, Chalamet thanked Jenner for the “foundation” they have built together as a couple, adding in his speech, “I couldn’t do this without you.”
Following the moving tribute, the camera panned to the makeup mogul, who mouthed “I love you,” while smiling cheerfully at him. Now, the insider who spoke to Us Weekly added that the couple is “totally aligned,” and the possibility of them walking down the aisle sometime soon isn’t so far-fetched.
“They’re not rushing into marriage, but they’re totally aligned and have even talked about getting engaged this year,” the source shared, while noting that they are on the same page when it comes to children.
“Kylie really wants another baby and has been open about the fact that she doesn’t feel like she needs to be married to do that, and they’re both on the same page about wanting a kid together,” they added. “Timothée never thought about starting a family until he met Kylie.”
Kylie Jenner Is In ‘Awe’ Of Timothée Chalamet And Won’t Stop Bragging About Him

In fact, reports suggest Jenner won’t stop bragging about the “Dune” actor to her family and friends as she’s totally in “awe” of him and loves “showing up” for him amid his industry success.
“Kylie is really proud of him and is always low-key bragging about him to her friends and family,” an insider told Us Weekly.
“She is super supportive of his career and feels it’s very important. Even though it overlaps with her world a bit, going to premieres and awards shows still feels [like] new territory for her, and she can get a little shy in that setting.”
Although there have been talks suggesting there’s trouble in paradise after the actor missed out on the Best Actor Award at the Oscars, the insider claimed that the reality TV star is “really in awe of how respected he is by his peers and loves showing up for him.”
“She’s always hyping him up and had the best time being by his side at the Oscars. He says she calms his nerves, and he equally loves having her with him,” they shared, per The Blast.
Timothée Chalamet’s Mom Gushed Over The Reality TV Star

Jenner is understood to have struck a close relationship with Chalamet’s mom, Nicole Flender, and is getting to know her.
In April of last year, the matriarch gushed about her son’s girlfriend to New York Magazine’s Curbed, saying, “I have to say she’s lovely.” Now, sources have suggested that the “KUWTK” alum shares the same sentiment.
“Kylie loves Timothée’s mom,” a source told Us Weekly. “Kylie isn’t as close with the other family members, but they have all been warm and welcoming whenever she sees them.”
Kylie Jenner’s Loved Ones Have Welcomed The Actor In Their Family

Jenner’s own family is understood to have welcomed Chalamet with open arms, as sources previously told the news outlet that the Kardashian-Jenner clan has really “embraced” him.
The insiders noted that the reality TV family “really like” Chalamet and believe he has “brought out a softer side to Kylie.”
“The kids love him, and Timothée has been integrated seamlessly into their lives,” the source said. “It took a while for Kylie to introduce them, but now things are very normal, and he spends a lot of time with them.”

Denise Richards’ Facelift Result Has Fans Saying She ‘Deserved’ It
Denise Richards recently got real about her glow-up, sharing striking before-and-after photos from her facelift eight months after surgery.
The actress revealed she underwent multiple procedures with Beverly Hills surgeon Dr. Ben Talei, aiming to refresh, not change, her look.
Images of Denise Richards’ facial transformation quickly went viral on social media, sparking varied reactions, with several fans praising the actress for getting work done.
Denise Richards Shares Dramatic Facelift Transformation, Surgeon Praises Natural Enhancement
Richards is pulling back the curtain on her latest glow-up, as she shows off dramatic before-and-after photos from her recent facelift, proudly flaunting the results eight months after going under the knife.
Richards teamed up with her Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, Dr. Ben Talei, to share the side-by-side transformation on Instagram.
According to Talei, the 55-year-old “Wild Things” bombshell underwent a full suite of procedures, including a facelift, temporal brow lift, upper eyelid surgery, a subtle lip lift, and fat grafting, all aimed at enhancing her natural features rather than changing them.
The surgeon gushed over his famous client, calling her “one of the most lovely and beautiful people to ever walk this earth,” emphasizing that the work was about restoring her look, not reinventing it.
He pointed out improvements in finer details, like her earlobes and the softening of lines around her eyes and mouth, which helped reduce what he described as a previously tired appearance. He added that “even the furrowing between her eyebrows has been relaxed.”
The Actress Says She Once Swore She’d ‘Never’ Touch Her Face

The side-by-side images showed clear changes around Richards’ neck, jawline, and overall facial structure, with Talei stressing that her eyes, one of her standout features, maintained their original character while appearing more refreshed.
He also applauded Richards for being open about the process, calling it “an incredible pleasure and honor to be trusted with her restoration and, more importantly, the preservation of her character and beauty.” Praising her resilience after a challenging year, he added that her “golden face” is now “hers again.”
Richards, in her own Instagram Stories, described the experience as one of the best decisions she’s made for herself.
“I always said I would never get a facelift, because that’s my face. This is how I make my money,” Richards explained. “I’ve been in this business a long time. People know what I look like. I’ve never done anything aesthetically to my face.”
Fans Praise The Actress For Being Honest About Her Facelift
On social media, netizens were quite positive about Richards’ facelift, with some joking that the actress needed it due to the drastic effect it had on her.
One person noted, “Don’t hate me when I say this, but she deserved this facelift,” while another noted, “That’s good work. She looks like her younger self.”
A third individual wrote, “Oh, that looks nice and natural! And good for her to come out and show her before and after photos. I love it when a woman is honest & doesn’t gatekeep.”
“It’s natural-looking. Subtle tweaks everywhere and very good,” one more person stated on X.
The Actress Admits Facelift Fears Kept Her Waiting Years Before Finally Taking The Plunge

Still, after years of hesitation, Richards had a change of heart. “I wanted to put things back up, where they were before,” she said, admitting the idea initially scared her despite having had cosmetic work earlier in life.
Richards explained she had always been cautious about altering her face, noting she’d only tried minimal Botox and filler in the past and didn’t love the results. “I’ve done very little filler — it made me look like I was heavy; it just did not work for my face,” she said.
The fear of something going wrong kept her from taking the leap for years, even as she became more conscious of aging, particularly around her neck.
“I was always scared of a facelift, but I did want to do my neck — my late mom would always say that she had a turkey neck. I think it’s genetic,” she said. “I had tried that [lifting] tape — a makeup artist showed it to me — and I’m like, ‘Well, if that’s where I want it to go, why not just put it back there?”
The actress added that the decision wasn’t impulsive. In fact, she spent nearly two years weighing her options before finally committing, with the final months leading up to the surgery solidifying her choice.
Denise Richards Says Facelift Results Are ‘Night And Day,’ Admits It’s More Than Serums And Workouts

Opening up about why she chose to be so transparent, Richards admitted she could’ve easily brushed it off as a post-divorce glow-up, but she felt other women deserved honesty about what really goes into maintaining a youthful appearance in Hollywood.
She made it clear that the results aren’t just about skincare routines or healthy living. “It’s not just serums. It’s not just eating right and working out and doing all these lasers and stuff like that,” she shared.
Reflecting on her own transformation, she described the difference before and after her facelift as “night and day,” admitting the change was so dramatic it even surprised her.
Richards also revealed that after opening up about her own procedure, other celebrities quietly began sharing their experiences with her, though she said she’s “not gonna name names.”

We also have Christine Williams (Lauralee Bell) telling Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) she needs her help with Mariah. Looks like Christine has set up a sweetheart plea deal for Mariah to get probation and psychiatric treatment and no prison time, which is amazing for a child kidnapping.
Christine says if they go to trial, Mariah will likely get 15 years. Sharon is not certain that Mariah will listen to her, but will try because she thinks prison would be the worst thing for her. Christine and Sharon then talk to Mariah, who knows that Christine’s deal is great.

Nick, of course, cannot run away from his problems. He may be out of fentanyl and needs to score while Adam is always around. You know, Matt’s a threat, Nick is in pain, and this is the worst time for these new demons just on top of his usual hothead antics as we all know about.
Young and the Restless Spoilers Wednesday, March 25th: Audra Talks with Noah
On Wednesday, March 25th, we’ve got Audra Charles (Zuleyka Silver) talking with Noah about their romantic history. So, Holden Novak (Nathan Owens), of course, pressed Audra to seduce Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor). But seeing Noah may remind Audra that she may want more than just revenge on Kyle and revenge on Claire Grace Newman (Hayley Erin) and an empty seduction scheme on Young and the Restless.
Plus, Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) admits something to Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn). And I wonder if it’s going to be that Victor kicked her out of their house when she raged at him about kidnapping Jack. Of course we know that Nikki is still at the GCAC. Plus, Holden feels the need to protect his interests. And this may be about Claire or it could be about his job with Cane.
Thursday, March 26th on Y&R: Victor Unveils a Secret Weapon
Thursday, March 26th, we’ve got Victor unveiling a secret weapon since he wants revenge on Cane and Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) and Jack. I’m sure it relates to one if not all of them. And it may tie back to crazy Patty Williams (Stacy Haiduk), who is not done on Y&R yet, by the way.
Nikki takes a risk to help Jack and she may talk to Diane or confront Patty or it may involve Victor. Also, Kyle promises to protect his mom, Diane. Kyle was disgusted over catching Jack in the sack with Patty. So, he may actually take a step back from his dad, Jack.
Friday, March 27th Young and the Restless Spoilers: Billy Decides Against Making Amends with Jill
On Friday, March 27th, we have got Billy deciding against making amends with Jill Abbott (Jess Walton). And I bet Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) isn’t going to stop pressing, though.
Also, this week, we’ve got Christine and Danny Romalotti (Michael Damian) making time for a romantic dinner. But Danny is worried about Daniel being heartbroken by Tessa. And Christine may update her husband on Daniel taking a step back so Tessa could try and help Mariah.

Y&R Spoilers: Victor Changes Course
We have also got Victor pivoting in his revenge plan against Cane. I don’t know if he has anything left for Victor to actually take from him. And soon Patty catches Diane’s wrath. And of course, Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) is due back on screen any second now.
And Adam is going to see another side of Nick by the end of this week. And I think Adam may realize Nick’s out of control. And it’s not just his usual anger issues, but addiction issues. You know, Adam has had his own demons. So, I actually think he’s the perfect person. I’d like to see some brother bonding come out of this.
Week Two on Young and the Restless: March 30th-April 3rd Spoilers
The week of March 30th through April 3rd, we’ve got Matt Clark back to stir the pot. The question is, will it be in Genoa City or in Vegas? My guess is Genoa City. Jack desperately tries to get Diane back, and if Patty approaches him, Jack’s going to be in a rage. Also, is this another kidnapping/major crime that Victor gets cleanly away with?
That is not justice. We really need some law enforcement taking action in town. Elsewhere, in Vegas, Adam is alarmed as Nick spirals out and could put them both in a lot of danger. And Nikki and Victor are pulled further apart. And her trying to help Jack is going to have Victor digging in his heels and getting more hateful towards his wife.
Y&R Spoilers: Audra Switches it Up?
Audra may forget the plan to seduce Kyle and turn her attention on how to get Noah away from Sienna Bacall (Tamara Braun). And I wonder what Sharon would prefer because she’s not happy that Noah’s with Sienna, but she, like everybody in town, not so much a fan of Audra, but I tend to think that Sharon might rather it was Audra.
Victor blindsides Cane. And of course, Victor’s not done messing with Jack and maybe thrilled Diane left him. And of course, Kyle’s pulling back from his dad. Patty is a loose cannon and we’ll find out more about Victor’s new secret weapon.

Every Reference The ‘Burbs Remake Makes To The Original Tom Hanks Movie
By Brian Myers
| Published

When Peacock released all eight episodes of its new series The ‘Burbs in early February, some speculated the endeavor would serve as a true remake of the 1989 film of the same name. Viewers were instead greeted with a stand-alone set of episodes that, while sharing some similarities with its source material, forged its own way into the annals of modern creepy comedies. Though fans will see both as separate entities, showrunners for the series packed it full of nods and references to the movie that inspired it.
Connection To The Source Material

The ‘Burbs is a 1989 comedy that follows residents of the fictional suburb Hinkley Hills as they begin to believe that their newest neighbors are killers. When elderly neighbor Walter Seznick mysteriously vanishes, the men from the cul-de-sac develop a scheme to expose the reclusive Klopek family as mass murderers. Of course, nothing goes to plan, and wacky antics and memorable one-liners ensue. Despite having an all-star cast that included Tom Hanks, Carrie Fisher, Gale Gordon, and Bruce Dern, the movie showed mediocre box office receipts and was the subject of mixed reviews by the critics of its day.
Like the movie, the streaming series centers around the new owner of the creepy house on the block. In the reboot, the mystery is explored by neighborhood residents Samira (Keke Palmer), Dana (Paula Pell), Tod (Mark Proksch), and Lynn (Julia Duffy). The quartet works to expose the truth behind a mysterious disappearance, focusing their suspicions on the reclusive Gary Wilson (Justin Kirk). Both the show and the film use copious amounts of dark humor and witty dialogue, interspersed with the very horrific idea of what it might be like to live on the same block as an elusive murderer.
Callbacks And Cameos Aplenty

On the surface, that’s where the similarities between the 1989 comedy and the modern show seem to end. The film goes off the rails quickly, with its main characters beginning to believe that their new neighbors are ghouls who engage in human sacrifice, while the show focuses on an old missing-persons case from Samira’s husband’s childhood. As the most die-hard fans of Tom Hanks’ most underrated project have pointed out, however, is that each episode of the series pays homage to its cinematic predecessor. Cameo appearances, character references, and word-for-word one-liners have all worked together to neatly tie together a modern hit with a cinematic classic.
Sharp-eyed fans have noticed that the show’s recurring guest star Wendy Schaal (Family Guy, Innerspace) plays the role of Judy, the community’s sharp-nosed librarian. Years earlier, Schaal played Bonnie, the young wife of grizzled Vietnam veteran Mark Rumsfield (Bruce Dern) and neighbor to the film’s main protagonist Ray Peterson (Tom Hanks). While Schaal’s part in the 2026 series is minimal, her casting was a nice touch and a great nod to the movie.

But Schaal wasn’t the only cast member from the 1989 project that movie fans will recognize. In the season finale, viewers are treated to a cameo appearance by 80s/90s movie icon Corey Feldman (The Lost Boys, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter). Feldman’s unnamed character leaves a scene with a line that directly references one uttered multiple times by his 1989 character, Ricky Butler. When the pool hustler he portrays wins his game, he grabs the money from the table, looks into the camera, and declares, “God, I love this place.” That line is a near word-for-word quote from Ricky’s “God, I love this street,” which broke the fourth wall at the end of the movie.
The Ultimate Fan Service
Watching the show isn’t even necessary to get all of the references to the movie. One look at the episode titles will make any fan of the film laugh, as each one is a direct quote of its witty dialogue. “Sardine?,” “Mind Your Own Business,” “The Goddamned Brownies,” and “Do Not Mess with Suburbanites,” lines from 1989 that The ‘Burbs fans all know by heart, and are but some of the episode titles listed for the series. Pay careful attention to the dialogue spoken in the show, and you’ll also pick up on other quotes from the film that have been carefully inserted for modern audiences.

If the neighborhood in the new show seems familiar, that’s no coincidence. The series was filmed on Universal Studios Colonial Street, the location of countless films and television shows that stretch back decades. The houses that Kiki, Lynn, Dana, and Tod creep around also appeared in everything from Desperate Housewives to House of 1000 Corpses to Deep Impact. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the 1989 movie was also filmed in the same backlot, with several of the homes in the series serving as landmarks that are fairly easy to identify. The Hinkley House of the series is the same as the house that the movie’s Ricky Butler resided in.
Perhaps the greatest nod to the film was a glimpse of an old photograph of the founder of Hinkley Hills, H. Horace Hinkley. With a town named in his honor and a home that still bears his surname, Hinkley’s black-and-white image is seen by Kiki in the first episode as she visits the town library. The photo is none other than the star of the 1989 movie, Hanks.

You can catch The ‘Burbs series streaming on Peacock. The comedy classic film The ‘Burbs is available to rent on Amazon Prime Video.

Bill Cosby Ordered to Pay $19 Million in Sex Abuse Claim
Bill Cosby has been ordered to pay ex-waitress Donna Motsinger more than $19 million after he was found guilty of sexual abuse.
According to the New York Times, a civil jury in California found that Cosby, now 88, had drugged and sexually assaulted Motsinger, now 84, after escorting her to one of his comedy shows in 1972.
The jury made its decision on Monday, March 23, after nearly three days of deliberation.
According to Deadline, Cosby’s attorney says his client already plans to file an appeal. While Cosby did not testify in his own defense, the former TV star has denied the allegations.
A deposition video was played in court during the two-week trial, in which Cosby was asked if he had sex with Motsinger. He replied, “I cannot remember if I did or not.”
In his latest case, Cosby has been ordered to pay Motsinger $17.5 million for her past mental trauma. He also had to pay another $1.75 million for mental suffering.
Us Weekly has reached out to Cosby and Motsinger’s attorneys for comment.
Motsinger first filed her lawsuit in September 2023. According to court documents obtained by Us, the former waitress alleged that Cosby drugged and raped her when she was working at a Bay Area restaurant more than 50 years ago.
“Mr. Cosby picked Ms. Motsinger up in a limousine from her house and drove her to the Circle Star Theater. Mr. Cosby gave Ms. Motsinger a glass of wine in the limo along the way,” the lawsuit alleged. “At the Circle Star Theater, Mr. Cosby took Ms. Motsinger to the dressing room there. She began to feel sick and Mr. Cosby gave her what she believed was an aspirin. Next thing she knew, she was going in and out of consciousness while two men attending to Mr. Cosby were putting her in the limousine with Mr. Cosby.”
The documents continued, “In the limousine, Mr. Cosby sat near the window and put his arms around her. The last thing Ms. Motsinger recalls were flashes of light. She woke up in her house with all her clothes off, except her underwear on – no top, no bra, and no pants.”
Cosby was once a highly regarded actor in Hollywood thanks to his overwhelmingly warm and paternal roles in The Cosby Show, I Spy and other projects.
In recent years, however, the comedian has faced several allegations of sexual assault, harassment, rape or sexual misconduct. His attorneys have maintained his innocence and believe the actor is being targeted and tainted as a result of his cultural status.

OnlyFans’ Taila Maddison Claims Stepdad Was Top Subscriber
OnlyFans creator Taila Maddison was in for a shock when she discovered that her top paying subscriber was allegedly her stepdad of 13 years.
“This one subscriber would talk to me every single day, and he would always be tipping me and unlocking new content,” Maddison claimed in a press release obtained by Us Weekly. “The thing he requested most was to know what underwear I was wearing to work every single day. It got to the point where I was so busy and getting messages from this guy so much that it was starting to interfere with my other job. In two months, he had spent $2,000 on me.
She continued, “Then one day I got a TikTok notification saying someone with the same username as this subscriber on OnlyFans had viewed my profile. What was really odd to me was that TikTok notified me saying that this person was in my contacts and then I realized that since I’ve had the same number since I was 12, it’s had to be someone I knew. I immediately assumed it was someone I went to high school with.”
Maddison claimed that she wrote down all the contacts from her phone and cross checked them with her TikTok, before narrowing down the list to six people.
“My ex-boyfriend saw the list of six people, which included a guy from high school, a female friend and some other unlikely suspects, and said, ‘Imagine if it’s your step-dad.’ I told him to f*** off, but then I pieced together a few details, and sent a message to my subscriber on OnlyFans,” she recalled. “I told him, ‘I know who this is,’ and he responded, “Who, babe? You don’t know me.”
Maddison replied back, writing, “You need to tell Mum before I do.”
“I immediately got a text from my stepdad saying ‘Hey, can we please talk.’ Thinking back on what happened I just feel so sick,” she said. “My immediate first thought when I confirmed it was him was for my younger sister. She is four years younger than me, and was still living with my Mum and stepdad. My stepdad worked from home everyday, and my younger sister was also studying from there, and she would go to the beach most days and walk around at home in her bikini, or sun bathe in the backyard. I just felt so worried for her, now knowing there was a predator in the house.”
Maddison then informed her mom, who told her to call her stepdad. “We used my ex’s phone and called him. He picked up and said ‘Oh, Tai. I just wanted to see and check on your welfare.’ I was so snappy. I said, ‘You spent $2,000 on my sex tapes to check on my welfare?’ He begged me not to tell Mum, but I told him he’d ruined his life, and that there was no way I wouldn’t tell her. He tried to argue with me, but I told him he had severely f***ed up,” she said.
She continued, “When I got off the phone with him, Mum called him. By the time he was home, she was ripping all of his stuff out into the front of the house. That was it. An 11 year marriage, gone. When what happened eventually settled in, I couldn’t go to work. I couldn’t eat and I couldn’t sleep. I ended up leaving my job anyway because I was making enough money, but I literally couldn’t go in because he knew where I worked. I couldn’t stop thinking about running into him. I was just mortified.”
Maddison claimed her relationship with her family was rocky after her discovery and the end of her mother’s marriage, but her bond with her mom healed. Months later, Maddison decided to share her story on TikTok as a cautionary tale to others who are thinking about starting OnlyFans.
“I literally just was in the car, and it was the most candid video,” she said. “I literally just said, ‘My stepdad subscribed to my OnlyFans and I caught him through TikTok.’ Then I went into a movie, and my phone just wouldn’t stop going off.”
She continued, “That night it was so hard to go to sleep because subs were rolling in and so were followers. My Instagram went from 2,000 followers to 50,000 overnight. My subscribers went from 200 to 15,000. That week I made $125,000. I got so many messages on my OnlyFans asking if the story was real. There were messages in so many different languages from all over the world.”

‘The Dark Knight’s Most Famous Line Wasn’t Written by Christopher Nolan — and It Still Bothers Him
It takes a special kind of canonical classic to feature a line of dialogue so memorable that anyone could identify what movie it comes from without any context. “You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain,” uttered by Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) in The Dark Knight, fits the bill. In what is likely to remain his culturally definitive and most popular movie, Christopher Nolan, for better or worse, changed the film landscape forever by making a superhero movie feel like an American epic about crime, justice, and society’s belief in costumed vigilantes as religious dogmas.
While often celebrated for his visual panache and as a groundbreaking pioneer of IMAX photography in narrative films, Nolan writes every one of his movies. However, his clunky and on-the-nose dialogue is a point of contention for many critics, but there’s no denying the power of Dent’s line in The Dark Knight. There’s one problem: Nolan didn’t write that line—it was his brother, Jonathan Nolan, and the director is still haunted by him stealing his thunder.
Jonathan Nolan Wrote ‘The Dark Knight’s Most Iconic Line
Christopher Nolan is a singular, uncompromising visionary, but Jonathan Nolan is frequently right by his side as a co-writer, contributing to the source material for Memento, and the scripts for The Prestige, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, and Interstellar. It rounds out the family enterprise nature of Nolan’s filmography, as all his movies are produced by Christopher’s wife, Emma Thomas. Since their last collaboration, Jonathan has developed his own autonomous career as the creator of Person of Interest and Westworld on television, as well as producing and directing Prime Video’s Fallout.
No contribution will ever match the legacy of one line of dialogue in an early scene in The Dark Knight, where Harvey Dent, Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal), and Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) discuss the legality and morality of Batman’s existence as a vigilante crime-fighter roaming the streets of Gotham. For anyone in a position of power, whether a Caped Crusader or Gotham District Attorney, there are only two destinies: die with honor, or live in infamy.
Which MCU Hero Are You?
In an interview with Nolan and his longtime collaborator and Oppenheimer star, Cillian Murphy, the director revealed that the “die a hero or live enough to see yourself become the villain” quote was actually coined by Jonathan Nolan. “I’m plagued by a line from The Dark Knight, and I’m plagued by it because I didn’t write it,” Nolan said, especially because the line was the one that “most resonates.” When Jonathan first conceived Dent’s line, Christopher admitted that he was puzzled by it, but the latter’s skepticism was proven wrong, expressing that it “kills” him that he can’t claim authorship of the line. “In this story, it’s absolutely that. Build them up, tear them down. It’s the way we treat people,” Nolan continued.
It’s easy to overlook him, but Jonathan Nolan’s understanding of genre mechanics and elaborate concepts, as demonstrated in his television shows, helped turn his brother into a commercial juggernaut with mass critical appeal. With films like The Prestige and Interstellar built around ornate ideas and executions, Christopher could’ve easily gotten lost in his own orbit, but Jonathan grounded these structures while maintaining their innate grandeur.
The Underlining Thematic Impact of This Famous Line from ‘The Dark Knight’
No one would think twice about who wrote the film’s most iconic line, as it feels very much in tune with Christopher Nolan’s style of dialogue. Characters in The Dark Knight, between Alfred (Michael Caine) analyzing the Joker’s (Heath Ledger) anarchic plan or the Joker himself sharing his philosophy on chaos, often sound like viewers and critics discussing the meaning of the film and its themes, which leads to a fair share of didactic moments where the message is conveyed with little subtlety, such as “Some men just want to watch the world burn,” and “This town deserves a better class of criminal.”
Complain about them all you want, but there is no denying the enduring, instantly recognizable magic of these lines. Nolan’s dialogue may not always be the most natural, but is that what we should expect from a movie about a billionaire dressed as a bat fighting crime? These lines, particularly when delivered with conviction by Eckhart, Caine, and Ledger, are poetic treatises about the mythos of superheroes and the disillusioned sentiment of America in a post-September 11th world.
Without Aaron Eckhart’s austere, earnest delivery, “You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain,” would’ve been an awkward line. It is also saved by the fact that it is the succinct thesis of The Dark Knight and its central thematic figure in Harvey Dent, who secretly dies disgracefully but is remembered fondly by the city of Gotham.
