7 Spy Movies That Are Better Than ‘The Night Agent’

Returning for its third season last month, The Night Agent has cemented its place as one of Netflix’s best action thrillers with yet another batch of unmissable episodes. The Gabriel Basso spy series first made a splash on the streamer in 2023 and quickly became a favorite of millions. Accumulating over 812 million hours viewed in its first few months, there was no denying the show’s franchise potential.

Season 2 also proved popular, and, although the most recent third installment faced a 39.6% drop in viewership, it is still taking its rightful place among the upper echelons of the streaming charts. “With The Night Agent Season 3, Ryan and his creative team deliver a thriller that feels both entertaining and purposeful,” wrote Jen Vestuto in her review for Collider. “By tightening its storytelling, deepening its characters, and delivering deliberate, hard-hitting action sequences, The Night Agent has officially delivered its strongest season yet,” she added.

If you’ve finished your binge of Season 3 and are looking for what to watch next, here’s a handy guide to seven spy movies that are better than The Night Agent.

‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’ (2014)

Its subsequent prequel and sequel might not prove as successful, but the first installment in the Kingsman franchise perfectly captures an exciting era for spy stories. By using slow-motion action sequences and iconic rock songs — before this became a frustratingly overused trope — Kingsman brought the spy genre into the modern day after some in the audience had become tired.

Directed by Matthew Vaughn and based on the comic he devised with artist Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons, the movie follows Harry Hart (Colin Firth) who must help fashion stubborn new recruit Eggsy (Taron Egerton) into an agent to help take down the world-threatening eco-terrorist Richmond Valentine (Samuel L. Jackson). Fast-paced, vibrant, and a winner of two Empire Awards, Kingsman is a perfect follow-up to The Night Agent.

‘Black Bag’ (2025)

The most recent entry on this list is one of the most underrated movies of 2025. In fact, Black Bag might well be the best sleeper hit from a mixed crop of modern-day spy movies. The film stars the brilliant duo of Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender as intelligence officers George Woodhouse and Kathryn St. Jean, whose relationship is put to the test when one is convinced the other is a traitor.

Directed by Steven Soderbergh and written by David Koepp, this slick, compact spy thriller trims the fat of a potentially bloated narrative and delivers a lean, 94-minute gem. Gripping from start to finish and boasting a wicked sense of humor, Black Bag wouldn’t be the same without its expertly assembled cast, which includes the aforementioned Blanchett and Fassbender alongside Marisa Abela, Tom Burke, Naomie Harris, Regé-Jean Page, and Pierce Brosnan.

‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy’ (2011)

As fans of the Apple TV series Slow Horses will confirm, a spy story led by Gary Oldman is sure to be a hit. In 2011’s Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, based on John le Carré‘s 1974 novel, Oldman plays George Smiley, an agent of the British Intelligence Agency a.k.a The Circus. After his boss, Control (Sir John Hurt), is ousted from his position and eventually dies, Smiley is left with the task of returning from forced retirement to solve the mystery around his death.

A slow-burner that is as intelligent as it is gripping, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy features a bevy of famous British faces, from Oldman and Hurt to Benedict Cumberbatch and Colin Firth, all working in talented tandem thanks to a smart Bridget O’Connor and Peter Straughan script. The movie earned a trio of Academy Award nominations, including a nod for Oldman in Best Actor, although it sadly missed out in all three categories.

‘The Bourne Identity’ (2002)

This spy story changed the game. The first entry in the Bourne series stars Matt Damon as the now-iconic Jason Bourne, a man salvaged from near-death who, despite suffering from amnesia, is extraordinarily talented in the skillset of a spy. Desperate to learn of his past, Bourne sets out on a deadly mission, chased by malevolent assassins.

During a stale period for the genre, The Bourne Identity arrived and sacrificed CGI-heavy, unbelievable action with gritty, hand-to-hand combat, accentuated by the use of so-called “shaky-cam” to illustrate authenticity. True, this itself quickly became the tired norm for spy movies, but it’s impossible not to recognize The Bourne Identity‘s innovation.

‘Mission: Impossible – Fallout’ (2018)

Last year, in his Final Reckoning, Tom Cruise‘s Ethan Hunt rode off into the sunset, happy that every Impossible Mission had been made possible. But of these missions, which was his best? That would be Mission: Impossible – Fallout, the sixth installment in the franchise, which saw Hunt and his team face an unknown evil and a terrorist-for-hire group known as Apostles.

Packed with some of the most breathless, exhilarating action set pieces in recent memory, Fallout is by quite some distance the most innovative and stunt-heavy entry into the franchise. Focusing on practical effects and capturing Cruise at the peak of his “I do all my own stunts” powers, Fallout delivers a cinematic spectacle difficult to replicate.

‘Casino Royale’ (2006)

A list of great spy movies would be incomplete without the most famous of all: James Bond. For my money, the best of Bond has happened in this century, courtesy of the suave Daniel Craig, and there is no better option from his impressive catalog than the very first, Casino Royale.

As we edge closer to the final act of Casino Royale, Bond comes face to face with poker player and private banker Le Chiffre (Mads Mikkelsen) in a game of Texas Hold ’em, with the climactic hand on the final night of the game simply some of the best spy cinema in modern movies. Add to that a cast stacked with talent and a fresh-faced Craig breathing new life into the role, and a recipe for success is born.

‘North by Northwest’ (1959)

In the hands of the Master of Suspense himself, Alfred Hitchcock, the spy genre is able to blossom into its full potential. This is best on display in North by Northwest, the 1959 tale of New York City ad executive Roger O. Thornhill (Cary Grant) as he is mistaken for a government agent by spy Phillip Vandamm (James Mason) and ruthlessly pursued.

From its first to its last moments, North by Northwest is a thrilling masterclass in creating tension, as a late-era Hitchcock utilized all his extensive knowledge of cinema to create. Not only is the movie a perfect example of spy storytelling, but it’s also visually iconic, with cinematographer Robert Burks at the peak of his powers. Truly, there is nothing else quite like North by Northwest, and it is the most obvious choice for films that are better than The Night Agent.

The Academy Has Decided
Your Perfect Film Is…

Your answers have pointed to one Oscar Best Picture winner above all others. This is the film that was made for the way your mind works.

Parasite

You are drawn to films that operate on multiple levels simultaneously — that begin in one genre and quietly, brilliantly migrate into another. Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite is a film about class, desire, and the architecture of inequality that manages to be darkly funny, deeply suspenseful, and genuinely shocking across a single extraordinary running time. Your instinct is for cinema that hides its true intentions until the moment it’s ready to reveal them. Parasite is exactly that — a film that rewards close attention and punishes assumptions, right up to its devastating final image.

Everything Everywhere All at Once

You want it all — and this film gives you all of it. The Daniels’ Everything Everywhere All at Once is one of the most maximalist films ever made: action comedy, multiverse sci-fi, family drama, existential crisis, and a genuinely earned emotional core that sneaks up on you amid the chaos. You are someone who responds to ambition, who doesn’t want cinema to choose between being entertaining and being meaningful. This film refuses that choice entirely. It is overwhelming by design, and its overwhelming nature is precisely the point — because the feeling of being crushed by infinite possibility is exactly what it’s about.

Oppenheimer

You are drawn to cinema on a grand scale — films that understand history not as a backdrop but as a force, and that place their characters inside that force and watch what happens. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is a film about the terrifying gap between what we can do and what we should do, told with the full weight of one of the most consequential moments in human history behind it. You want your films to feel important without feeling self-important — to earn their ambition through sheer craft and the gravity of their subject. Oppenheimer does exactly that. It is enormous, complicated, and refuses easy comfort.

Birdman

You are drawn to films that foreground their own construction — that make the how of the filmmaking part of the what it’s about. Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman, shot to appear as a single continuous take, is cinema examining itself through the cracked mirror of a fading actor’s ego. You respond to formal daring, to the feeling that a film is doing something that probably shouldn’t be possible. Michael Keaton’s performance and Emmanuel Lubezki’s restless camera create something genuinely unlike anything else — a film that is simultaneously about creativity, relevance, self-destruction, and the impossibility of ever truly knowing if your work means anything at all.

No Country for Old Men

You are drawn to cinema that trusts silence, that refuses to explain itself, and that treats dread as a form of meaning. The Coen Brothers’ No Country for Old Men is a film about the arrival of a new kind of evil — implacable, arbitrary, and utterly indifferent to the moral frameworks we use to make sense of the world. It is one of the most formally controlled films ever made, and its controlled restraint is what makes it so terrifying. You want your films to haunt you, not comfort you. You are not interested in resolution if resolution would be dishonest. No Country for Old Men is honest in a way that most cinema never dares to be.

8 Years Later, Netflix’s 2-Part Sci-Fi Series Quietly Becomes a Late-Night Favorite

Published

on

8-Simple-Rules-Kaley-Cuoco-Katey-Sagal

At this point in Anthony Mackie’s career, he’s best known for his role as Sam Wilson in the MCU. He first began his MCU career as a complementary piece to Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, but he’s since stepped into his own as the new Captain America. He headlined his first solo movie last year with Captain America: Brave New World, and he’s set to star in a vital role later this year in Avengers: Doomsday, the first Marvel tentpole event film since 2019. Even in the years since his MCU career began, though, Mackie has starred in plenty of other projects that have received their due, either in theaters or on streaming. Back in 2024, Mackie teamed up with a fellow MCU star, Morena Baccarin, for Elevation. The alien invasion sci-fi film is currently streaming on HBO Max in America.

However, Elevation was far from the first sci-fi project Mackie starred in that wasn’t attached to the MCU. Back in 2020, Anthony Mackie took over the role that Joel Kinnaman originated in the second season of Altered Carbon, the hard sci-fi series set in a dystopian future where consciousness is digitized and stored. It follows a prisoner who wakes up in a new body and must solve a murder to win back his freedom. The show aired its first season starring Kinnaman in 2018, and it returned two years later with its sophomore outing starring Mackie, which was met with strong critical reception before being review-bombed by audiences. Still, despite all this mixed reception, Altered Carbon is still one of Netflix’s most popular watches, and the perfect weekend sci-fi binge for fans of great sci-fi TV shows.

What Else Is Anthony Mackie Working On?

Before he returns in Avengers: Doomsday this year, Mackie has other projects in the works to be excited about. On April 24, he’ll return and star in a new action movie titled Desert Warrior, which co-stars Ben Kingsley. Mackie will also make his highly anticipated TV return in 12 12 12, a new series currently in post-production that’s expected to premiere before the end of this year, but it is still lacking an official release date. After he reprises his role as Sam Wilson in Avengers: Doomsday, he will also return in Avengers: Secret Wars one year later, all but assuring he’ll survive the first chapter of the war with Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.).

Tom Hardy’s $292M Sci-Fi Mind-Bender Surges to the Top of Global Streaming Charts

Published

on

8-Simple-Rules-Kaley-Cuoco-Katey-Sagal

Tom Hardy is, without question, one of the most famous action stars on the planet. However, he also has some other big roles that are more focused on his commanding performance and less on his ability to smash skulls. He gives one of his most famous performances opposite Cillian Murphy in Peaky Blinders, the hit British crime saga that ran for six seasons between 2013 and 2022. The franchise even returned with a feature film, now on Netflix, The Immortal Man, but Hardy has no role in the film, much to the disapproval of fans. Hardy also scored his first and only Oscar nod for his work in the critically acclaimed Western, The Revenant, which earned Leonardo DiCaprio the first Academy Award win of his career. He was recently seen opposite Pierce Brosnan in the hit crime series, MobLand, which hails from director Guy Ritchie and writer Ronan Bennett.

What many would argue is the most famous movie of Tom Hardy’s career, though, is Inception. The 2010 sci-fi thriller features other stars like Leonardo DiCaprio, Cillian Murphy, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and it follows a thief who steals corporate secrets from competitors using dream-sharing technology. However, things are flipped upside down when he has to use the technology to plant an idea, not steal one. Directed by Christopher Nolan, the film earned scores of 87% from critics and 91% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and it grossed a whopping $839 million at the box office against a $160 million budget. Over 15 years later, Inception is back at the top of streaming charts on HBO Max in several countries around the world. It’s also a VOD smash hit in more than 15 countries.

Is Tom Hardy Making Another ‘Venom’ Movie?

Tom Hardy is involved as a producer in an animated Venom movie that’s in the works at Sony, but it’s unclear at this time if he will reprise his role as Eddie Brock or if it will be recast with another actor. Hardy has played Eddie for three feature films, all of which were financial success stories, but this wasn’t enough to help Sony launch its SSU (Sony’s Spider-Man Universe). The franchise may have failed because it declined to include Spider-Man in any movies that are directly inspired by some of his greatest villains.

Published

on

Joseph Duggar’s only visitor in jail after he was arrested on child molestation charges has been revealed.

The Counting On alum’s attorney has been the sole person to visit Joseph in Washington County Correctional Facility, Page Six reported on Friday, March 27. No family members have visited Joseph, 31, per the outlet.

According to the outlet, Joseph has reportedly called two people while behind bars. The outlet reported he called his wife, Kendra Duggar, multiple times over the past week. Joseph also reportedly called a management consultant on March 19, but the call was not answered.

Joseph is currently being held in the correctional facility after  he was arrested on March 18 for allegedly molesting a 9-year-old girl during a Florida vacation.

Joseph Duggar has reportedly been placed in a secure area of Arkansas’ Washington County Jail while awaiting extradition to Florida. TMZ reported in the early hours of Friday, March 20, that 31-year-old Joseph has “no access” to other inmates. Staff have been keeping Joseph “under constant watch” because of his status as a reality star, […]

“The victim reported Duggar repeatedly asked her to sit on his lap,” Bay City police said in a statement on Thursday. “As the vacation continued, he also asked her to sit next to him on a couch and covered them with a blanket. During this time, Duggar manipulated the victim’s underwear and grazed her genitals. Duggar would also continue to rub his hands on her thighs.”

The alleged victim, now 14, claimed in a police statement that Joseph “eventually apologized for his actions and the incidents stopped after the apology.”

Joseph remains in jail and is facing multiple charges, including two counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

Us Weekly confirmed days later that Joseph’s wife, Kendra Duggar, was arrested on Friday, March 20. She was released that same day on a $1,470 bond.

Joseph and Kendra, 27, are also both facing charges of endangering the welfare of a minor and four counts of second-degree false imprisonment.

A spokesperson for the Duggar family told Us in a statement, “[Kendra’s] is a misdemeanor charge totally unrelated to the Florida case.”

Published

Netflix’s Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen hinges on a shocking twist — but what is the big reveal?

Before the show premiered on Thursday, March 26, Netflix teased it as a miniseries centered around an engaged couple whose wedding is derailed.

“Rachel and Nicky are engaged to be married in a week,” reads the synopsis. “Before they can tie the knot, though, something very bad happens to get in the way.”

Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen stars Camila Morrone, Adam DiMarco, Gus Birney, Karla Crome and Sawyer Fraser. Jeff Wilbusch, Ted Levine and Jennifer Jason Leigh make up the rest of the cast alongside Victoria Pedretti, Josh Hamilton and Logan Miller.

Devastating Fictional Breakups TV Fans Still Can't Get Over

Related: Nace! Choni! Devastating Fictional Breakups TV Fans Still Can’t Get Over

An emotional roller-coaster. From Riverdale‘s Cheryl and Toni to Nancy Drew‘s Nancy and Ace, fans have watched their favorite couples break hearts with some devastating splits. Riverdale, which premiered in 2017, originally introduced Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) as a grieving sister trying to deal with the death of her twin brother Jason (Trevor Stines). After striking […]

It takes half of the season for Rachel (Morrone) to discover that her family is cursed. She must marry her soulmate by sundown on her wedding day but if Nicky (DiMarco) isn’t The One, then she will die. If he is, she will live — or, if she chooses not to go through with the wedding, she will die and the curse will transfer to Nicky and his family.

The Witness (Zlatko Burić) is an immortal being who tries to warn Rachel after he leaves his wife at the altar and is cursed himself. Rachel ultimately tries to say “I do” to Nicky but he changes his mind. He agrees to the wedding — but then she backs out last minute.

Netflix

In the series finale, members of Nicky’s family start bleeding out as a consequence. Rachel bleeds as well because she doesn’t actually believe in her and Nicky — who survives because he knows Rachel is his soulmate.

Rachel goes outside to die, except in a shocking twist, she instead trades places with Witness and is now in charge of watching over Nicky’s family to make sure they marry their soulmates — or else.

“There’s a difference between having a lot of love and someone being your person,” Morrone, 28, told Tudum this month about the ending. “Rachel’s person would wholeheartedly understand her, believe her neuroticism and skepticism, and hold space for her. … Nicky loves her and wants to, but he doesn’t actually understand.”

Creator Haley Z. Boston also broke down the conclusion.

“That [ending] scene is one of my favorite scenes in the whole show,” Boston shared. “I remember thinking, ‘How do I close these characters out?’ The show is about a breakup, ultimately. After you break up, there’s that moment of logistics. … At this point, Rachel is exhausted, and she’s just trying to get out of there. It felt like the perfect ending for them.”

She concluded: “Ultimately, I liked this idea of a death and a rebirth, and in order to get the rebirth, it felt natural that there was a mythological answer. [Rachel] has the curse, so she’s not off the hook, she has to be careful if she ever wants to get married and who she chooses.”

The couple recently attended a service at Canterbury Cathedral for the installation of Dame Sarah Mullally, the first woman to lead the Church of England, highlighting Prince William’s connection to faith and royal duties.

Insiders claim Prince William has been leaning heavily on his wife, Kate Middleton, for support.

According to In Touch, a source noted that Kate has “always been his steady hand,” a role she’s played since their early days together.

“Even back in their university days, she was the voice of reason, always pushing William to think of the bigger picture and his role within the monarchy,” they added.

That dynamic hasn’t changed. The source points out that during her recent health struggles, Kate “was the one holding everything together and supporting William while he was struggling to process it all.”

Now that Kate is in remission, those close to her are growing concerned.

They feel the future queen may be taking on too much, especially as more members of the family turn to her for guidance and support.

The insider adds that it’s no longer just William depending on her; Kate has increasingly become the “go-to person” others rely on, including King Charles III.

“The thing with Kate is she rarely says no because she loves to be of service, which is a beautiful quality, but it also means she runs the risk of burning herself out,” the source explained. “Everyone agrees she’s incredibly capable. They just worry that she’s carrying too much.”

One of the challenging moments Kate is seemingly guiding the royal family through is the current scrutiny plaguing the monarchy due to the former Duke of York, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s connection to the late sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.

The future king and queen were recently heckled during a royal outing over Andrew’s shocking arrest, with an insider telling People Magazine, “Other events have rocked the monarchy, but something from within — where someone is being arrested — is very different. This is much more serious.”

However, long before King Charles officially removed Andrew’s royal titles last year, William is said to have expressed serious concerns about his uncle’s place in the family.

In his new book, “William and Catherine: The Monarchy’s New Era: The Inside Story,” author Russell Myers details William’s stance following Andrew’s controversial 2019 BBC interview regarding his Epstein ties.

Sources revealed that William urged his father and Queen Elizabeth to take decisive action, believing that Andrew should handle the fallout on his own.

One insider said that William reportedly “never much liked his uncle and wanted him out of the picture immediately before the rot further set in.”

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, March 25, William and Kate attended a historic service at Canterbury Cathedral, celebrating the installation of the first woman to lead the Church of England.

William represented his father, King Charles III, upholding the tradition of the heir appearing at key royal ceremonies.

The service marked the formal investiture of Dame Sarah Mullally as the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury.

Arriving just ahead of the service, the Prince and Princess of Wales were welcomed by Lady Colgrain, the Lord Lieutenant of Kent, before joining the congregation and participating in the ceremony, including singing hymns during the procession.

For the occasion, Kate wore an elegant Suzannah coat complemented by a wide-brimmed hat by Juliette Botterill.

Earlier, the couple had met Mullally at Lambeth Palace in February, shortly after she was named Archbishop-elect in October 2025, with her appointment officially confirmed in January.

The appearance also sheds light on William’s personal relationship with faith. While he does not attend church as regularly as his father, Charles III, or his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, insiders say William remains committed to supporting the church in his own way.

One source explained to The Sunday Times that for William, this event “is a drawing of a line in the sand of where he’s at, and it’s really important that it [the question over his commitment to the Church] is cleared up.”

They added: “His feeling is, ‘I might not be at church every day, but I believe in it, I want to support it, and this is an important aspect of my role and the next role, and I will take it very seriously, in my own way.”

Following their February meeting, Mullally spoke warmly about the pair, expressing shared hopes for a better future and noting that she would continue to hold them and their family in my prayers.”

Where They Are Amid Company Retreat

Jury Duty is expanding with a new season — but where is the original cast now?

The comedy premiered on Prime Video in 2023 and followed a group of prospective jurors going through the selection process and civil trial. Most of the cast members were actually actors except for one participant, who was unaware that everything was fictionalized.

Ronald Gladden was a contractor who answered a vague Craigslist ad to participate in a documentary about jury duty.

“I was just under the impression that this was going to be a behind-the-scenes look … or what it was like for jury duty,” he recalled to Access Hollywood in April 2023. “So, I signed up for what I thought was a documentary. I didn’t really know what was going on until the end.”

In addition to Gladden, the show featured James Marsden, Mekki Leeper, Edy Modica, Ishmel Sahid, David Brown, Cassandra Blair, Maria Russell and Kirk Fox. Susan Berger, Ross Kimball, Pramode Kumar, Ron Song and Brandon Loeser also appeared.

Season 2, which premiered in March 2026, follows Anthony Norman, who is hired at Rockin’ Grandma’s Hot Sauce as a temp while unaware that the company is fake.
