UFC Paris live blog: Renato Moicano vs. Benoit Saint Denis
This is the UFC Paris live blog for Renato Moicano vs. Benoit Saint Denis, the lightweight main event this Saturday in Paris.
A former top-15 featherweight, Moicano moved up to the 155-pound division in 2020 following back-to-back losses and rejuvenated his career. 5-2 since making the jump up, Moicano is currently on a three-fight win streak over some of the top names in the division. Perhaps more importantly though, embracing his “Money Moicano” personality has garnered a whole new swath of fans for the Brazilian fighter as he looks to continue building his resume.
Since making his UFC debut in 2021, Saint Denis has been must see television every time out. Earning four bonuses in just seven fights, including two Fight of the Nights, Saint Denis’s high-action style earned him a big opportunity his last time out against Dustin Poirier. Unfortunately for “BSD,” Poirier proved to be too much too soon, and now the French fighter hopes to rebuild with a win on home soil over a fan favorite.

With some fans unhappy at a negative, but often effective, style of football, the club were unable or unwilling to agree a new deal with Moyes as Lopetegui was named his replacement.
The early signs under the Spaniard were not encouraging. Home losses to Aston Villa, Manchester City and Chelsea led to criticism that the style of football was the same, if not worse than last season.
Last week, ex-Hammers striker Tony Cottee, speaking on TalkSport, called the managerial move from Moyes to Lopetegui “a sideways step, not a progressive step”.
“I didn’t want him [Lopetegui] in the first place. I said ‘be careful what you wish for’ – David Moyes did a superb job for West Ham,” he added.
Was this win over Ipswich a sign of a more attack-minded Hammers side?
After seven league matches, Lopetegui’s team have a lower goals-per-game ratio than last season (1.43 this campaign compared to 1.58 last year), but also fewer goals conceded (1.57-1.95 per game), more passes (410-387 per game) and more crosses (26-24.1 per game).
West Ham also received a helping hand against a naive Ipswich side, who contributed to their own downfall with defensive mistakes contributing to three of West Ham’s four goals.
But Hammers fans may be liking comments from visiting boss Kieran McKenna, when he said: “Tactically, West Ham played very differently to any team we’ve played this season. They were very direct which is what we struggled with. Michail Antonio did a fantastic job in bringing in people like Tomas Soucek.
“In the first 60 minutes it was that direct play we didn’t deal with.”
However, before West Ham fans expect to see four goals a game, McKenna did add: “They didn’t have to work too hard for their goals. We conceded some poor goals at poor times, that changed the momentum.”
Meanwhile, Lopetegui was keen to praise his side’s defensive work instead of their attacking play, but tantalisingly said: “We had a lot of chances to score, but we can do more goals.”

Ryan Spann once again showed what he’s capable of when he’s on top of his game with a vicious finish of Ovince Saint Preux at UFC 307.
With his back against the wall on a three-fight losing skid, Spann (22-10 MMA, 8-5 UFC) came out of the gate and hurt Saint Preux (27-18 MMA, 15-13 UFC) early in the opening round of their light heavyweight bout at Delta Center.
As his opponent tried to recover, Spann snatched the neck and forced his way on top with a guillotine choke that forced Saint Preux to frantically tap out just 95 seconds after the fight began.

After the fight, Spann was thrilled in his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan and said this is where his run at 205 pounds truly begins.
Meanwhile, Jon Anik noted on the broadcast that Saint Preux fought out of the final bout on his UFC contract, and it could possibly be it in the octagon for the man with the most wins in divisional history.
