Arsenal should be worried despite beating Crystal Palace to close gap on Liverpool in title race

Arsenal have closed the gap on Liverpool in the race for the Premier League title after a 5-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Gabriel Jesus was the hero on Wednesday night as the Gunners beat the same opponents in the Carabao Cup, with the Brazil international scoring a hat-trick.

And Jesus continued his recent return to form, with the Samba star netting twice before further efforts from Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli and Declan Rice on Saturday.

Ismaila Sarr scored for the Eagles, but it wasn’t enough for his side to earn anything from the contest. GB News now takes a look at four things we learned.

There were many positives for Arsenal on Saturday night as they cruised to victory over their London rivals.

But the sight of Bukayo Saka limping out of proceedings will cause alarm, with the England international forced off through injury.

It is currently unclear how severe the issue is but the 23-year-old is now a doubt for Friday night’s showdown with Ipswich Town.

Arsenal need Saka if they’re to win the title. With the matches coming thick and fast, they’ll be praying it’s nothing too serious.

Jesus form gives Arsenal new edge

Jesus has never been the most consistent striker during his time in the Premier League.

With the Arsenal star now back in form, however, he’s likely to play a big part between now and the end of the season.

The No 9 role is, after all, potentially available for him to make his own. Kai Havertz, who was deployed in midfield against Palace, has also had his issues in that position.

Arsenal do need another No 9 but are unlikely to splash the cash in January. Mikel Arteta will be hoping Jesus can maintain his current levels to prevent the north London giants from having to spend big.

Arsenal professional as they get the job done

A match away from home, and under the lights at night, is never easy.

But Arsenal’s professionalism was impressive as they dispatched Palace to move to within three points of Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table.

Though the Eagles lost in midweek, they were excellent last weekend as they stunned Brighton 3-1 at the Amex Stadium.

Yet Arsenal were superior and fully deserving of their win, with their title bid back on track following their goalless draw with Everton last weekend.

Earlier on Saturday, Ipswich were battered 4-0 by Newcastle at Portman Road with Alexander Isak netting a sublime hat-trick.

And that result means Palace have been let off the hook, with Oliver Glasner’s side flat at Selhurst Park.

Palace have won just three of their 17 league matches this season – picking up 16 points in the process.

Fortunately for them, however, their relegation rivals are poor. Southampton will go down, Wolves look set to follow and Ipswich’s ongoing struggles suggest they’ll also drop down to the Championship come the end of the campaign.
