Glasgow City go into the winter break five points clear at the top of the SWPL after thrashing Dundee United as Hibernian stunned second-placed Rangers.
Defending champions Celtic eased to a 5-0 win at Spartans, while Montrose moved out of the relegation zone with a 1-0 victory over Queen’s Park.
Third-placed Hearts were held to a goalless draw at Motherwell.
Hearts, having played a game more, are now just two points clear of Edinburgh rivals Hibs, who produced a devastating performance to inflict Rangers’ second defeat on the spin with a 3-0 success.
Kathleen McGovern scored either side of half-time at Broadwood, chipping Rangers goalkeeper Vic Esson from inside the box, before pouncing on a defensive slip-up to smash into the top corner. Substitute Rosie Livingstone made it three with six minutes left.
The result allowed Glasgow City to extend their lead at the top, with Katie Lockwood and Lisa Forrest scoring doubles in the 7-0 rout of the bottom club. Amy Muir, Sam van Diemen and Brenna Lovera also netted as Dundee United had no answer.
Braces for Emma Lawton and Saoirse Noonan, plus a Kelly Clark strike, handed Spartans a heavy defeat to keep Celtic nine points behind City with two games in hand.
Montrose are out of the bottom three – above Aberdeen on goals scored – after a Morgan Hay own goal decided the outcome against Queen’s Park.
Aberdeen’s game with Partick Thistle was postponed because of high winds.
The SWPL action resumes on 12 January.
