Suddenly i got a crazy idea.
M.2 socket RAID server. The idea being that the M.2 socket provides the "network connection" to the PC, and perhaps power, but external SATA power connection would be fine.
So M.2 socket, obviously, seperate on board computing for the RAID, and of course the SATA connectors module.
Of course the drives could get seperate SATA power from your normal PSU that runs the rest of the PC as well. 2.5" SATA drives aren't too big, you could stack them in brackets, loads of those available in all kinds of sahpes and formes, even in the back of the PCIe slots just like your GPU etc. you could even basically tape them together and stick them anywhere in your machine.
But this way you have a very small server that you build into for instance your lowest M.2 slot on your motherboard, stick drives anywhere or in the PCIe securing slots at teh back of the PC, network is already done.
It should of course also have at least some display output, HDMI, DP, even USB(C). Though you could just reach it like over a network through the M.2 slot. Should be doable ?
Kind of love that idea, i wonder if something like this is already around ?
Might also be a silly idea, but somehow i kind of like it, because you just stick it into an M.2 slot, less obvious, might get a nice cover to look good.

w/o CPU OC PoE (without +) will be enough even with NVMe according to my tests.
