Sir Jim Ratcliffe will leave Marcus Rashford’s fate entirely to Ruben Amorim as the Manchester United star fights to save his career at Old Trafford, according to reports.
And that sums up the 27-year-old’s dramatic fall from grace over the past 18 months or so, with talk of a potential move away gathering momentum.
Rashford was United’s best player in the 2022/23 season, netting 30 goals across all competitions as the club won the Carabao Cup.
He has struggled for consistency in the time since, however, and has found himself on the fringes of the action following the appointment of Ruben Amorim last month.

Rashford has missed United matches with Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Bournemouth over the past week-and-a-half.
And The Telegraph say that Ratcliffe will leave the winger’s fate entirely to Amorim.
Ratcliffe, who is the club’s minority owner but in charge of footballing matters, and chief executive officer Omar Berrada have ‘made it clear’ that they ‘will not pressure Amorim to either select or leave out’ the England star.
Rashford was at Old Trafford on Sunday as Bournemouth trounced United 3-0 in their own back yard.

But it looks more and more likely that he’ll depart the club he’s spent the entirety of his career at.
When Rashford signed a bumper new deal with United just 18 months ago, it seemed unfeasible that things would unfold like this.
He was genuinely outstanding in Ten Hag’s first season at the helm, firing the Red Devils to a trophy and into the Champions League as well.
Yet Rashford’s stock has fallen drastically and he’s no longer operating at the peak of his powers – and hasn’t done for some time.

United know they can’t afford any passengers as they seek a brighter future.
Ever since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, the club have gone backwards – and is currently a shell of the empire it once was.
Amorim has a huge job on his hands. Though the 39-year-old has impressed in interviews, his team are yet to convince since his appointment.
And it seems more and more likely that Rashford will be cut loose with clubs from Saudi Arabia, as well as Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona, all linked.

Meanwhile, Amorim recently confirmed that he was alarmed by the advice Rashford is receiving from his entourage.
The winger said last week that he was ready for a ‘new challenge’, with his comments raising eyebrows behind the scenes.
And Amorim hit out at those advising the England star, telling Sky Sports: “Of course it’s a hard situation but I understand these kind of players have a lot of people around them and making some choices that sometimes is not the first idea from the players.
“So I understand, I can separate things. I am always here for helping Marcus, as another player, and they have to do what they have to do.

“I say they choose to do that interview because it’s not just Marcus and I understand that.
“For me as a coach, I’m just focusing on the performance and the way he trains and the rest I think is better for me and the club deal with that when the time comes.
“At the moment I am just focused on improving Marcus. We need a lot the talented guy like Marcus and for now I forget the interview and just see what I see on the pitch.”
