Great explanation, information and video. I am a former IBMer, I worked for IBM Global Services 1996-1998 supporting LSI Logic's Microsoft's NT 3.52 servers, and Microsoft's NT 4 servers and Lotus Notes servers at IBM's Storage Division in San Jose, California.

6:53 "If the operating system on the server crashes, then all the containers will go down" – Isn't that true for VMs as well?

Thank you so much for starting by explaining what the norm was before. It’s almost impossible to understand the value of a technology without knowing what problem it’s solving and what it’s an improvement on. On top of that, so much information is treated as a given, that’s it’s rarely even taught.

    October 2, 2024 at 1:34 am

What a bunch of nonsense. Nobody ever ran one application on one server. This kind of nonsense sold to you courtesy of vmware. You clearly haven’t spent a day in the server room in the golden days

4:40 How can you run a container in about any computing environment? What if an image contains binaries compiled for Linux, but the deployment is done in Windows environment?

  22. @facr

    October 2, 2024 at 1:34 am

But containers can also have a mandatory OS to run some stuff or to access inside things the container! And it also crashes if the Container Engine crashes!

I remember I was so confused about container in a IT class, my professor spent the whole 45 mins lectures and I still didn't know what container was, but this tutorial is simple an clear.

Wow, bro, a huge thumbs up for you and all your videos. The way you break these complex theories into practical bits amazes me. Even a beginner without IT knowledge can become an IT expert overnight by watching your videos. I wish you could do more videos on server administration with Windows, Linux, UNIX, and SQL servers. Pls keep this great job up, you are helping and saving lives.

Good video but lots of mistakes while comparing VM and Containers …. why does he even compare a VM with Container?

  31. @pldot8811

    October 2, 2024 at 1:34 am

Totally wrong about containers running only application code, container uses base images based on different os distros (alpine, ubuntu, etc) so also os executables and libraries, in fact complete operating system. Too mamy simplifications in this video, also there is no limitation to run different applications on one physical server …

  32. @bakabakaa

Only 1 application per server??? Wtf?? You had to create your own packet protocol and assign a number of ports that will operate with your application. You could handle hundred of apps depending on how much ports were you planning to use…

Sacha and his cofounder already developed the first version of their product. They are now undertaking the Version 2 of their development and are considering moving to Amazon Web Services (AWS) as their cloud hosting solution.

Moving an application to the cloud is usually a very good option because you are not renting a server anymore but buying a delivered service instead.
