Jessica Simpson’s Thanksgiving Was ‘Family First’ Amid Split

The singer celebrated Thanksgiving with her estranged husband in an effort to create a loving, celebratory atmosphere for their three kids, Maxwell, Ace Knute, and Birdie Mae. 

The former lovers got married in 2014 but went their separate ways in January 2025. However, no one has yet filed for divorce.

Simpson was on her way to rehearse with her band when she had a brief chat and revealed that she spent Thanksgiving at her mother’s house with her kids.

When asked if Johnson was also there, she told TMZ, “Of course, it’s my kids’ father.” The 45-year-old singer noted that it was a full house because her kids got to spend time with their grandparents.

“With all their grandparents. They have a lot of them,” she said, laughing.  “Family first,” she later added, squashing all the rumors of disunity.

The “A Public Affair” actress and her estranged husband seem to be on good co-parenting terms.  She also revealed that Johnson had previously taken the kids to see one of her shows, and they were excited to see her face on a billboard.

The reporter then asked Simpson to give some advice to couples who may be going through a breakup or divorce during the holidays, and she replied:

“No matter what, your kid is half the other person, and always have respect in what you say around them, so they can always have a good perspective on it. Unconditional love is important.”

Simpson’s revelation comes amid reports that the cordially estranged couple don’t see eye-to-eye anymore.

As The Blast reported, although they began living apart in hopes of a reconciliation, insiders recently revealed that they are “inching closer to a full-blown divorce.”

A source also noted that one of the major sources of contention between the duo is their daughter Maxwell’s intention to pursue an acting career.

While Simpson is on board with Maxwell making her debut in the film industry, Johnson, on the other hand, has kicked against it. Instead, he wants her to concentrate on her studies and sports.  Meanwhile, Maxwell wants to do both because she is a “good basketball player” and she “loves to act.” 

A few months before the insider spilled the tea on Simpson and Johnson’s disagreements, the couple was seen boarding a Southwest Airlines flight.

Naturally, this sparked rumors that they had resolved their differences and were back together. 

According to The Blast, they boarded the commercial flight from Burbank to Las Vegas and sat next to each other on the plane. The pair were headed to Simpson’s sister, Ashlee Simpson’s residency. 

Amid her separation from Johnson, Simpson has opened up about her intentions to find love again.

She revealed that she would like to find another lover, however, not through dating apps. “It’s a rough road out there in the dating world. I mean, I’m not getting on the apps yet,” she said, per The Blast.

The singer noted that instead of finding love through the apps, she would like to be set up by her friends.

As much as she is ready to get back out there again, she wants to take things slow and ease back into the dating pool.
