Premiership Women's Rugby: Exeter Chiefs boss unhappy with WXV clash

As well as 16 players on international duty, England’s Claudia MacDonald is still out with a neck problem, although Nancy McGillivray is set to return after more than year out due to a knee ligament injury.

The main advantage of playing when the WXV is on is that Exeter will have a squad made up mainly of English-qualified players.

It could allow them more flexibility later in the season with clubs having to field 13 English-qualified players in each match over the course of the season.

If Exeter can field more English players early on it would allow them more non-English qualified slots in later rounds and still stay within the rules.

“There is method to some of their madness, not a lot because I do think they could have shifted it back a bit, or shifted WXV forward a bit and still not clashed,” added Appleby.

“They never want international competitions to clash with this league because it is meant to be the best in the world, and that’s what they want to show.

“But these two weeks are going to look a bit different – three realistically because the players finish on 13 October so it’s unlikely they’ll be in game three either – so we’re looking at game four and beyond.”

Mason Greenwood ends goalscoring drought in style as ex-Man Utd star fires timely reminder to new England boss Tuchel

MASON GREENWOOD ended his goalscoring drought in a timely reminder to new England boss Thomas Tuchel.

The forward made a fast start to life in Ligue 1 after joining Marseille, scoring five goals in his first three games.

But Greenwood then went on a barren run of four games without a goal.

However it appears the international break did him good as he returned to form with a goal and an assist in Marseille’s 5-0 demolition of Montpellier.

Greenwood showed devastating pace and trickery to beat his man before firing low past the goalkeeper on his weaker foot to score Marseille’s fourth.

The former Manchester United star has proved himself to be a key player already for Roberto De Zerbi‘s side.

And Greenwood wants to know if his form could lead to an England recall following the appointment of Tuchel, SunSport revealed.

If not, Greenwood will accept Steve McClaren’s invitation to switch allegiance and play for Jamaica.

Greenwood’s international future has been in limbo since he spent 18 months out of the game after being charged with attempted rape, assault and coercive behaviour in January 2022. The charges were later dropped.

A source told SunSport: “Mason knows his chances of playing for England again are very slim. But he wants to check with the FA and Tuchel now he has been appointed, to see what they think.

“He is determined to play at the highest level and that means the World Cup.

“So if England don’t want him, he’ll switch to Jamaica and try and get to the 2026 World Cup that way.”

2024-25 NBA Rookie of the Year odds: Zach Edey favored; Bronny a long shot

A number of NBA first-timers are set to vie for the Rookie of the Year award.

Going back to the 2024 NBA Draft, one surprise was two-time National Player of the Year Zach Edey, who snuck into the top 10, going ninth to the Memphis Grizzlies

Prior to the draft, Edey was +2000 to be the No. 9 pick.

But now, after making noise in the NBA Summer League and the preseason, Edey is favored to be the top rookie.

Let’s check out the Rookie of the Year odds at DraftKings Sportsbook as of Oct. 21.

2024-25 NBA Rookie of the Year odds:

Zach Edey, Grizzlies: +350 (bet $10 to win $45 total)
Reed Sheppard, Rockets: +700 (bet $10 to win $80 total)
Zaccharie Risacher, Hawks: +900 (bet $10 to win $100 total)
Matas Buzelis, Bulls: +1000 (bet $10 to win $110 total)
Stephon Castle, Spurs: +1100 (bet $10 to win $120 total)
Dalton Knecht, Lakers: +1100 (bet $10 to win $120 total)
Alexandre Sarr, Wizards: +130 (bet $10 to win $140 total)

Of course, we can’t have a conversation about rookies without discussing Bronny James

James struggled in the preseason, scoring a total of eight points in the first five preseason games.

In those games, he only connected on four of 20 shot attempts, missed all seven of his 3-point attempts, and committed five turnovers.

However, in his final preseason game, James scored 17 points (7-for-17 from the field), and added four rebounds, three steals and a block.

Was that performance enough to boost his odds to win ROY?

Unfortunately, no, as James sits at +25000, a huge long shot to bring home the hardware.
