King Charles’ State Dinner Menu Revealed After Trump Visit
King Charles III’s state dinner menu has been revealed after the royal dined with President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump.
The first course served on Tuesday, April 28, featured a “delicate garden herb velouté, silken and aromatic, complemented by a refreshing hearts of palm salad,” according to details shared via the White House website. The hearts of palm salad was complete with crispy shallots and “a whisper of micro mint for brightness and contrast.”
The second course consisted of handcrafted spring herb ravioli, with ricotta, morel mushrooms and fresh herbs picked from the White House Kitchen Garden. The pasta featured “a light parmesan emulsion, which enhances the essence of the dish.”
For the third course, a “classic dover sole meunière” was prepared and “bathed in a nutty brown butter.” The dish was complete with spring ramps, snow peas, pavé potatoes, and “a vibrant parsley oil.”
Guests enjoyed dessert in the form of a beehive-shaped chocolate gâteau with a vanilla bean crémeux custard, which was set inside with an almond joconde and topped with a brown butter crumble. A crème fraîche ice cream and White House honey accompanied the cake.
Melania, 56, led preparations for the meal, which also featured wines that were chosen to honor “the shared heritage and enduring friendship between the United States and the United Kingdom, and [celebrate] the strength of American winemaking today.” The wines consisted of the Hopkins Riesling “Heritage” 2024 by Hopkins Vineyards, the Penner-Ash Pinot Noir “Willamette Valley” 2022 by Penner-Ash Wine Cellars and the Newton Chardonnay “Unfiltered” 2022 by Newton Vineyard.
The night also consisted of performances by the United States military musicians from the Marines, Army and Air Force, including “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band, the United States Army Chorus, the United States Army Strings, the United States Army Herald Trumpets, the United States Air Force Singing Sergeants and the United States Air Force Strings.
Charles, 77, and Queen Camilla arrived in Washington, D.C. on Monday, April 27, for their first official state visit as the reigning monarchs. The pair are visiting from overseas to honor the American people as the United States celebrates 250 years of independence.
One day after his arrival, Charles appeared before Congress and became the second member of the British royal family to address U.S. senators and representatives. In his speech, Charles addressed topics including the growing threat of climate change to the recent shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner that left a Secret Service agent injured.
“We meet too in the aftermath of the incident not far from this great building that sought to harm the leadership of your nation and to ferment wider fear and discord,” Charles said. “Let me say with unshakable resolve that such acts of violence will never succeed.”
Authorities arrested the suspected shooter after the incident on Saturday, April 25, and the 31-year-old was charged with “one count of attempt to assassinate the President of the United States, transportation of a firearm and ammunition in interstate commerce with intent to commit a felony, and discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence,” per the Justice Department. A plea has not yet been entered.

Days of our Lives Early Spoilers May 4-8: Kristen’s Secret Exposed & Jeremy Leaves!
Days of Our Lives early weekly spoilers for May 4th through the 8th divulge Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) being exposed and Jeremy Horton (Michael Roark) exiting under a cloud of shame.
As we always do on early edition day, we talk about what’s coming the rest of this week. Then we dive into what is ahead next week.
Days of Our Lives Spoilers Wednesday, April 29th: Jeremy Freaks Stephanie Out
So, on Wednesday, April 29th, we’ve got Alex Kiriakis (Robert Scott Wilson) asking Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) to do a rush job on the paternity test. This is a carryover from Tuesday when Alex told Joy Wesley (AlexAnn Hopkins), “Let’s knock out this test ASAP.”
Although honestly, I don’t think that Alex is doubting Joy or doubting that Kelsey is his baby. But Stephanie Johnson‘s (Abigail Klein) not handling it well at all. So, the proof is important.
We’re also going to pick back up from Tuesday with her and Jeremy when he hugged and comforted Stephanie after Alex broke the baby news. So, Stephanie is upset at a situation that Jeremy engineered, you know, not the pregnancy, but the whole thing with the reveal.
I mean, Joy isn’t buying what Jeremy’s selling, you know, but I do think he’s a little too optimistic. And he misreads a moment with Stephanie, and he kisses her. Now, she looks disturbed by Jeremy’s kiss. And I wonder if Stephanie’s going to have some freaky flashback since she was just envisioning shooting Owen, and she had to kiss him during the kidnapping. We’ll see if she pulls her gun on Jeremy.
Days of our Lives Spoilers: Stephanie Rejects Jeremy
This is Michael Roark’s last day as Jeremy. And in addition to Michael Roark’s exit, we know that Rachel Boyd, who plays Sophia Choi, and Peter Porte, who plays Dimitri, both have been dropped from contract status to recurring.
But given that both of their storylines are clearly drawing to a close, that’s not terribly surprising. So, back to Jeremy. You know, hopefully Stephanie doesn’t shoot him, but I do think she’s going to shoot Jeremy down. Stephanie may actually figure out that Jeremy was behind Joy showing up with Alex’s baby in Salem since his dad dated Joy’s mom.
Also, Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman) and EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) do some father-son bonding. And I wonder if Johnny’s going to tell his dad about Chanel Dupree DiMera‘s (Raven Bowens) mammogram. Lani Price (Sal Stowers) and Chanel have a heart-to-heart sister chat. And Kristen tells Sophia to do it, to take out Johnny. Kristen calls Sophia and says, “This gets done tomorrow. No emotion, no mess.”
DOOL Spoilers Thursday, April 30th: Johnny in Danger
Then on Thursday, April 30th, we’ve got Stephanie taking comfort from her mom, Kayla Brady (Mary Beth Evans). I’m sure this is about a lot of things, including the Jeremy incident, Joy showing up with Alex’s baby, the kidnap trauma, PTSD, all of that. Sarah gets Chanel ready for her mammogram.
And knowing that Raven Bowens was fired and Chanel is leaving late this year, I don’t think this bodes well at all. Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) gives Marlena Evans (Didre Hall) some very exciting news. Could be about him getting his PI license or fingerprint proof against Sophia or that Brady overrode Kristen’s ban on Marlena visiting Rachel Black (Lorelie Olivia Mote) at Bayview.
Johnny tries to reason with Sophia who’s at his door, sprayed him in the face. Looks like with mace, she gets the better of him. So, Sophia has Johnny prisoner and is following Kristen’s orders and she’s ready to hurt him. Jada enjoys a show from Shawn. And I’m hoping it’s a gun show.
Friday, May 1st on Days: The Search for Sophia Kicks Off
Friday, May 1st, we’ve got private investigator in training Brady and Salem top cop Jada Hunter (Elia Cantu) teaming up to find Sophia. And I wonder if they’re searching for her to arrest her for the supplement swap the fingerprint evidence might be in. Amy Choi (Shi Ne Neilson) is answering questions from Brady when he comes looking for Sophia.
And Amy shows him a suicide note that she says Sophia left. Now, we know she was bickering with Arianna Horton (Vico Escorcia) and set up a fake account to bully herself online after lying to Tate Black (Leo Howard) about Holly Jonas (Ashley Puzemis) bullying her. So, clearly Sophia is laying lots of groundwork.
The note blames Holly for saying she’s dead to her. And Sophia carries on about how she’s hurting, sick of the bullying, and tired of begging forgiveness. So Brady reads the note where Sophia says, “Everybody’s better off if she’s dead.” This all smells like an elaborate ruse to me. Tate is there to encourage Holly. I wonder if they’ve seen the anti-Sophia stuff she posted online or if Brady tells them about Sophia’s suicide note.
Days of our Lives Spoilers: Javi at Risk
Hero Javi Hernandez (Al Calderon) realizes Johnny is in big trouble. But also by the end of this week, Javi collapses at the hospital unless this is a carryover into next week and Days has messed up their promo again. Sarah’s freaking out asking if Javi is all right. So, I wonder if he had a reaction to what Sophia was spraying on Johnny. We’ll see.
Sarah is supportive as Chanel goes through her mammogram. I wonder if Johnny’s going to miss the test as he’s been taken captive by Sophia or if Chanel planned to go by herself all along. And Kristen gets her revenge. She is smirking at the DiMera mansion waiting for EJ to get a call with bad news about Johnny.
Week of May 4th-8th: Second Full Week of May Sweeps on DOOL
The week of May 4th through the 8th, it is the second full week of May sweeps. And Holly may be blamed if Sophia manages to fake her death by suicide. The note she left for her mom Amy was most likely a frame job. I think Sophia is planning her ultimate revenge. I think like all her schemes, it’s not going to pan out, though. You know, she is planning to take a payoff from Kristen to start a new life after framing Holly and I guess killing Johnny, but I don’t think it’s going to work out for either Sophia or Kristen on Days of our Lives.
Leo Stark (Greg Rikkart) learns about Javi’s collapse and runs to be at his side. We’ve only got a couple more weeks of Al Calderon before he is out and recast Javi is introduced. We have Jacob Martinez stepping into the role. Marlena is not impressed at being named a beneficiary in Stefano’s will, but it looks like EJ has her convinced to show up, get it over with, and finally get some closure. Also, I’m looking forward to what Marlena digs out of EJ’s head about Cat Greene (AnnaLynne McCord) in the hospital since even Cat doesn’t seem to remember everything that happened between her and EJ when they were both in Italy recovering.

Days of our Lives Spoilers: Stefano DiMera Twist Coming
Tony DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) is back for the will reading and Cat is coordinating with executor Theo Carver (Cameron Johnson) to make sure everything goes as intended. I am super excited to find out what shockers Stefano DiMera (Joseph Mascolo) put in his will because you know the Phoenix always surprises. Theo continues to visit his mom, Lexie Carver (Nikki Crawford), hoping that she will wake soon and hopefully we finally see her eyes open during May sweeps. That seems most likely.
Chad DiMera (Connor Floyd) continues to trash talk EJ and wonders if Abby Deveraux (AnnaLynne McCord) was in the person pod. Theo is sidestepping him because he knows his mom Lexie was the pod person, but I do suspect that EJ may have Abby in a pod somewhere. You know, EJ might have stolen her from Clyde Weston (James Read). Roman Brady (Josh Taylor) is increasingly suspicious of Kate Howard (Lauren Koslow), who’s been lying and denying.
Days of our Lives Spoilers: Chad & EJ May Team Up
I’m curious to see if Chad has a hot take on what Kate did to Johnny because, you know, they’ve really changed up Chad’s character. I’m sure you guys have noticed when they changed over to Connor Floyd, we are seeing Chad back and kind of more aggressive and more confrontational, particularly with EJ.
And so that’s why I’m really interested to see if he comes at Kate or if they have that same pseudo, you know, mom and son vibe that they’ve always had because I think we’re going to see Chad pivoting in other interesting ways. Meanwhile, Kristen thinks she’s getting away with a whole lot of things.
But she doesn’t realize the walls are closing in. Brady’s ready to make a move against her, possibly to snatch custody away. And if there is proof she was working with Sophia to hurt Johnny, we could see Brady and EJ working together to keep Kristen away from both their kids and put her behind bars.

41 Years Ago, Bob Dylan Felt Uncomfortable Recording One of the Best-Selling Singles of All Time
Even legends get nervous sometimes — and 41 years ago, Bob Dylan proved exactly that. Back when he was only 19 years old, the aspiring star had the guts to move all the way from Missouri to New York City. Carrying nothing but his guitar and unpolished songs, it took Dylan approximately a year until he was signed by a proper label. The singer’s riskiness is what made him the superstar the world knows him as today.
And yet, for the 10-time Grammy-winning musician, he still gets the jitters when singing. When offered the chance to be involved in one of pop culture’s biggest charity songs, Dylan unexpectedly got his tongue all twisted as soon as the microphone turned on. Luckily, his equally famous friends were more than willing to get his voice back.
Bob Dylan Was One of the 45 Superstars Chosen to Record “We Are the World” in 1985
Having broken into the music industry in his early 20s, Dylan should be the last person to get stage fright. However, that’s apparently what happened when he was pulled into “The Greatest Night in Pop”: the 1985 recording of “We Are the World.” The song was created as a response to the devastating famine in Ethiopia. Inspired by the success of the UK charity single “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”, American music figures Harry Belafonte and Lionel Richie helped spearhead a U.S. equivalent.
Who’s Your Perfect Classic Rock Band?
Recorded in one marathon, all-nighter session after the American Music Awards, the track brought together more than 40 artists under the name USA for Africa. The lineup included everyone from Michael Jackson, Huey Lewis, to Bruce Springsteen. If there’s one thing from the experience, it’s that cramming together a majority of America’s star power, who were mostly sleep-deprived, is bound to result in unique experiences behind the scenes. From Jackson’s pet python interrupting their writing session to nervously waiting for Prince to confirm his participation, both the creative juices and nerves were at an all-time high. Even the more lax Dylan is no exception, having his own particular experience with a fellow celebrated musician.
Stevie Wonder and Lionel Richie Helped Bob Dylan Get Over His Stage Fright
Each pop star had their own solo part, and while that sounds like a dream for most singers, Dylan wasn’t exactly thrilled. Ken Kragen, the agent who organized the event, noted that “Bob Dylan, when he was recording his solo piece, stepped up to the microphone and sounded nothing like Bob Dylan.” In The Greatest Night in Pop, the documentary shows Dylan struggling at the vocal booth, barely able to mutter out a song lyric with confidence. It wasn’t that Dylan was against singing pop. On the contrary, Dylan had difficulty matching his rough vocal phrasing with the softer and more melodic “We Are the World.”
Alice Cooper Had One of the Biggest Radio Hits of the 1970s and Then Disappeared
Alice Cooper’s sudden disappearance from the airwaves between 1978 and 1989 left fans wondering what happened,
Fortunately, Richie, Quincy Jones, and most importantly, Stevie Wonder stepped in to help. Funnily enough, Wonder — who had been expected to help write “We Are the World” from the beginning — had been MIA, only to show up at exactly the right moment. Wonder guided Dylan on how to deliver his lyrics, even going above and beyond by impersonating Dylan’s voice so he could hear exactly how the line should sound. He didn’t leave Dylan’s side throughout the solo recording process, standing by the piano in case he needed help with the ad-libs.
Four Years Later, Bob Dylan Honored Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee Stevie Wonder
Decades before “We Are the World,” Wonder took a spin on one of Dylan’s most successful and important tracks, “Blowin’ in the Wind.” Although the two singers have differing styles, the Dylan track was relevant to the Civil Rights movement of the time. Instead of staying true to its folksy roots, Wonder reimagined “Blowin’ in the Wind” as an upbeat, Motown sound, which is amplified by Wonder’s assertive, powerful voice. Some singers can be sensitive when it comes to creative changes. However, Dylan was positively floored by Wonder’s version.
“If anybody can be called a genius, Stevie Wonder can be. I think it has something to do with his ear, not being able to see or whatever. I go back with him to about the early Sixties, when he was playing at the Apollo with all that Motown stuff. If nothing else, he played the harmonica incredible, I mean truly incredible. Never knew what to think of him really until he cut “Blowin’ in the Wind.” That really blew my mind, and I figured I’d better pay attention. […] He is a great mimic, can imitate anybody, doesn’t take himself seriously and is a true roadhouse musician all the way, with classical overtones, and he does it all with drama and style. […]”

The 1990s Best Supernatural Horror Series Was Too Violent For CBS
By Jonathan Klotz
| Published

In 1995, CBS had a problem on its hands. The network was losing ground against the rise of NBC’s “Must See Television,” and old stalwarts Murder, She Wrote, Rescue 911, and Murphy Brown were losing to the rise of the 90s edgier, grittier content.
CBS greenlit the most creative, daring show of the 1995 television season in its bid to fight back, but American Gothic was too dark, too gritty, and too much for the future America’s Most Watched Network. Turns out, a dark series about a corrupt small-town sheriff engaged in devil-worship was a hard sell to the American public, but today, it’s an incredible one-season cult classic.
What If The Devil Was The Law?

The star of American Gothic is the villain, Sheriff Buck (he likes to remind people it’s with a “B”), played by future NCIS leading man Gary Cole. Charismatic and charming when he wanted to be, Buck would walk around town coercing citizens into performing small favors for him, little deals here and there, that would help solidify his control over the town of Trinity. The only thing he can’t get is the only thing he truly wants: the young boy, Caleb Temple, played by Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift star Lucas Black, as his heir.
Standing in Buck’s way is Caleb’s dead sister, Merlyn, played by a young Sarah Paulson, but she’s still Sarah Paulson and is both incredibly creepy (she’s a ghost) and sweet (she’s a friendly ghost). Alongside his cousin, Gail (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II’s April O’Neil, Paige Turco) and the new town doctor, Dr. Crower (Medium’s Matt Weber), they try to fight against the growing darkness of Buck. Notably absent are Caleb’s parents, both dead due to Buck, and his sister becomes a ghost after she’s strangled to death by Buck. In Episode 1.

American Gothic embraces a combination of episodic storytelling, with the one about the junkyard owner in too deep with Buck as a standout, and the mythology arc of Buck’s influence spreading, festering, and making everything a little bit worse for the residents of Trinity. “Strong Arm of the Law” shows why some residents accept the obviously evil Sheriff when he puts an end to criminal out-of-towners raising chaos. It also includes the single most evil act of Buck’s: he pours out Dr. Crower’s coffee.
American Gothic Was 30 Years Too Early
As dark and disturbing as American Gothic would get, with the assaults and child murder and all, the show was clearly heavily influenced by Twin Peaks and includes small moments of bizarre, tonally off humor. Buck himself is basically Ray Wise’s Leland Palmer dialed up to 11, Big Jim from Stephen King’s Under the Dome done right, or Andy Griffith’s intrusive thoughts. In 1995, there was nothing like this.

Unlike most early cancellations of promising, high-concept shows, American Gothic wasn’t undone by studio interference. CBS was hands-off, allowing executive producer Sam Raimi (now it all makes sense, right?) to run with every crazy idea he had.
Proof of that is the assault, the murders, the entire Satanism undercurrent throughout the whole series, any one of which would make a show a hard sell to the general audience. CBS played up Paulson’s performance as Merlyn, using her creepy line-reading of “Someone’s at the door” in ads, but that was a little too effective and terrified an audience in love with Murder, She Wrote and Touched by an Angel.

American Gothic never had a chance to finish the story. Attempts at turning it into a movie fell apart over the years, and today, it’s fondly remembered by those who gave it a chance but too often overlooked.
Over 30 years after its cancellation, the dark story of greed, lust, murder, and the occult would be an immediate hit. You can purchase the complete series today on both YouTube and Amazon Prime to see how audiences in the 90s didn’t appreciate how good they had it.

Klay Thompson isn’t the only one who has seemingly weighed in on his split from Megan Thee Stallion. As The Shade Room previously reported, earlier this week, Slim Thug and Finesse2Tymes directly expressed their thoughts on the breakup. Slim used the example to seemingly reiterate why he doesn’t want to be in a relationship with another celebrity.
Meanwhile, Finesse2Tymes explained why he feels Klay Thompson had a “player mentality” amid his fling with Meg.

Network Execs Hated The Star Trek Episode That Created A Great Guest Villain
By Chris Snellgrove
| Published

Star Trek is a franchise that most fans love to watch because of its heroes. It’s genuinely thrilling to see characters like Captain Kirk overcome insurmountable odds (he doesn’t believe in the no-win scenario), or Captain Picard overcome unstoppable villains (the line must be drawn here!). However, I’d argue that the villains of Trek are actually much more compelling. Characters like Gul Dukat, Q, and even Nus Braka steal every scene and leave us quietly rooting for the bad guys to finally win.
Believe it or not, this is a franchise tradition that goes all the way back to the beginning. In addition to those recurring baddies mentioned above, Trek has always had memorable guest villains played by actors who show up and immediately blow everyone away. The Star Trek: The Original Series episode “Charlie X” was one that the network absolutely hated, but fans came to love. Of course, most of that affection is because of one man: Robert Walker, whose method acting turned a frightened 17-year-old boy into one of the scariest villains the Enterprise crew ever encountered!
Get Out My Ship, Charles!

“Charlie X” is an episode where the Enterprise crew rescues a young man named Charlie (played by Robert Walker) whose ship had crashed. The crew tries to help the kid out, including Captain Kirk, whom he sees as a father figure. However, things take a sinister turn when the crew discovers that Charlie has the powers of telepathy and transmutation, which he uses for horrific acts like making everyone who annoys him disappear. Eventually, the godlike aliens who gave this kid superpowers show up to take custody of him, reasoning that he is now too dangerous to be raised among humans.
These days, “Charlie X” is considered a fairly strong episode of Star Trek: The Original Series. At the time, though, NBC really hated the episode because they thought Charlie’s presence made the story feel too much like a teenage melodrama. Plus, everything took place aboard the Enterprise, so the episode didn’t have any of the “strange new worlds” the show would become famous for. That second factor ended up being a blessing in disguise, though: postproduction was very easy on “Charlie X” (especially after they recycled some footage), so it became the second episode of Star Trek to hit the airwaves.
Boldly Going Where No Villain Has Gone Before

Fortunately, the episode didn’t need exotic locations to be memorable when it had a killer guest star. Robert Walker played a young man with fantastic powers, and he blew the cast and crew away with his acting talent. In The Longest Trek: My Tour of the Galaxy, Janice Rand actor Grace Lee Whitney explained that Walker was a method actor who deliberately avoided interacting with the cast between shots so that he could stay in character. She claimed that “it worked” and that “You can see it in his performance, a subtle yet persistent air of estrangement from the Enterprise crew, and indeed, from the rest of humanity.”
She gushed that Walker’s “careful effort to stay in character added a convincing dimension to his performance,” which helped the actor “[capture] the perfect balance, projecting vulnerability, innocence, and horrifying menace at the same time. A lesser actor could not have handled the range and depth of the character.” In a later interview with the Television Academy Foundation, “Charlie X” writer D.C. Fontana agreed, noting that Walker “was excellent as Charlie.” She also commended the then-26-year-old actor for successfully portraying a 17-year-old character, noting that “he looked young enough to pull it off.”

“Charlie X” was a Star Trek: The Original Series episode that NBC hated but that fans loved. They wouldn’t have loved it nearly so much, though, if Robert Walker hadn’t turned in such a chillingly perfect performance. He’s one of the best guest villains in the franchise, and his method-acting talents give us a one-off villain that fans love to hate. It’s an approach that would inspire later Star Trek actors, including Michael Dorn, whose own method acting made Klingon security chief Worf one of the most beloved characters in Star Trek history.

Dark Psychological Anime Banned From Television Is Now Streaming
By Zack Zagranis
| Published

Paranoia Agent is the best anime you’ve never seen. The twisted, psychological thriller was originally deemed too intense for both Japanese and American broadcast standards and was eventually aired in both markets in a heavily edited format. Luckily, the entire uncut series is available to stream on anime streaming service Crunchyroll.
Paranoia Agent is the brainchild of creator Satoshi Kon. Kon was initially a feature film director responsible for such anime classics as Perfect Blue and Tokyo Godfathers. During the production of his films, however, Kon found himself with an excess of story ideas and themes that didn’t fit with any of his projects but intrigued him nonetheless. As a result, the director decided to take these discarded concepts and weave them into a television series.

Prior to the creation of Paranoia Agent, the creator had spoken at length about the filmmaking process and its rigidity, how he would work for two years on the same project, being in “the same mood” and using the same method over and over again.
The flexibility of television enticed Kon because he wanted the freedom to explore a variety of themes and topics rather than be confined to a single concept throughout a feature film. Kon was also drawn to the speed at which television animation is produced vs. movie animation because it allowed him to “Realize instantly what flashes across my mind.”

The result was 2004’s Paranoia Agent—a frightening mix of anxiety-inducing thrills and dark themes that made viewers question the sanity of the characters on screen as well as their own. Paranoia Agent revolves around a mysterious assailant known only as “Lil’ Slugger” who skates around on rollerblades attacking seemingly random victims with a dented golden baseball bat. Each episode focuses on a different victim and the detectives working to catch Lil’ Slugger.
Paranoia Agent Censored
The series features the usual adult anime tropes, plenty of nudity and profanity, but it’s Paranoia Agent‘s dark, taboo themes that got it temporarily banned in certain countries. Scenes like the one in episode 8, where a character commits suicide, caused the anime to be partially banned in Japan after being deemed “too harsh” by the Japanese government. This partial ban meant the anime had to air on Wowwow, a Japanese satellite station, rather than on the country’s regular broadcast channels.

Meanwhile, in North America, the series was initially banned from airing on TV and was only available on DVD in late 2004. The following year, a censored version of Paranoia Agent began airing on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim late-night programming block.
Along with being scrubbed of any references to suicide, this watered-down version of the series also took great pains to remove any nudity and swearing that might offend sensitive US audiences. The suicide scene was also removed before the series aired in the UK.
Paranoia Agent has been compared to the works of David Lynch for its, at times, dreamlike, surreal quality, as well as Kon’s other psychological thrillers Paprika and Perfect Blue.
In 2020, Adult Swim again aired Paranoia Agent, this time in a form closer to its original vision. This new edit included the blurring of certain body parts during nude scenes instead of cutting the scenes out completely, and an intact suicide episode, albeit with ads for suicide prevention airing before and after.

Satoshi Kon’s dementedly brilliant debut anime was unanimously praised by critics and audiences alike, despite most of those audiences being unable to experience the series as intended.
Paranoia Agent‘s Rotten Tomatoes score is as high as it can be, at an impressive 100% critic approval rating. The site’s consensus praises “Anime auteur Satoshi Kon” for bringing his “feverish vision” to television and delivering a “disturbing meditation on individual and societal anxiety.”
Paranoia Agent has been compared to the works of David Lynch for its, at times, dreamlike, surreal quality, as well as Kon’s other psychological thrillers, Paprika and Perfect Blue. The feeling among many fans is that Paranoia Agent isn’t something you turn on to zone out to, but rather a deep experience that will stick with you for a long time, whether you want it to or not.
You can check out Paranoia Agent right now courtesy of Crunchyroll , where the anime is streaming in its original format.
