Prime Video’s Perfect ‘The Chosen’ Replacement Is a Streaming Hit
Faith-based movies and shows have never been more popular, with Biblical tales dominating discourse and even encouraging Mel Gibson to make The Resurrection of the Christ, which is scheduled for 2027. Right now, millions of viewers are still reeling following the finale of the second season of House of David, titled “The Truth Revealed,” which debuted on November 16 and earned plenty of praise. Thanks to the success of this finale and the popularity of the genre as a whole, House of David is an unsurprising streaming success.
At the time of writing, House of David is one of the ten most-streamed shows on Prime Video, joining a stacked line-up currently proving popular in the catalog. This includes Harlan Coben and Danny Brocklehurst‘s Lazarus; one of 2025’s most talked-about shows, The Summer I Turned Pretty; the James Norton-led historical series King & Conqueror; the animated series Hazbin Hotel; the hit German romance drama series Maxton Hall — The World Between Us; and the ever-popular video game adaptation Fallout, which is the chart-topper at the time of writing. Despite such strong competition, House of David continues to demand viewership through both the quality of the story and performances, especially from Michael Iskander as the titular David.
How Does ‘House of David’ Compare to ‘The Chosen’?
House of David is a hit with both audiences and critics, boasting an impressive 71% from the latter and 87% from the former on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. Although the second season doesn’t currently have a critics’ score, its 84% audience rating hints at consistency between the seasons. But how does House of David compare to the series it is not a spin-off of, but does share some personnel with? Dallas Jenkins‘ The Chosen, perhaps the biggest faith-based series of today, doesn’t have a critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, but its near-perfect 97% rating from audiences proves almost impossible to beat. A synopsis for House of David reads:
“The once-mighty King Saul falls victim to his own pride; at the direction of God, he anoints an unlikely, outcast teenager as the new king; David finds himself on a journey to discover and fulfill his destiny, navigating love, loss and violence.”
