Kim Kardashian calls for killers Erik and Lyle Menendez to be released

Kim Kardashian visits parent-killers Erik and Lyle Menendez in prison after Netflix show uproar

Kim Kardashian is calling for convicted murderers Erik and Lyle Menendez to be released, weeks after the reality star visited the brothers in prison.

The Menendez brothers, who are serving life sentences for the 1989 murders of their parents, José and Kitty, have been back in the public eye following the release of Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.

They were arrested for first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder outside their home in March 1990 and sentenced in 1996. In 2024, new evidence emerged that has the potential to set them free.

In a personal essay for NBC News, Kardashian writes: “We are all products of our experiences. They shape who we were, who we are, and who we will be. Physiologically and psychologically, time changes us, and I doubt anyone would claim to be the same person they were at 18. I know I’m not!”

The Kardashians star, 43, goes on to argue that the case against the brothers is “much more complex than it appears on the surface.”

She writes that the sexual, physical and emotional abuse the pair claimed they suffered at the hands of their parents was not adequately taken into account, and that media attention around the case meant “Erik and Lyle had no chance of a fair trial.”

“Back then, there were limited resources for victims of sexual abuse, particularly for boys,” she writes. “There were virtually no systems in place to support survivors, and public awareness of the trauma of male sexual abuse was minimal, often clouded by preconceived judgments and homophobia. Can anyone honestly deny that the justice system would have treated the Menendez sisters more leniently?”

Describing her visit to San Diego County’s Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility, Kardashian says: “I have spent time with Lyle and Erik; they are not monsters. They are kind, intelligent, and honest men. In prison, they both have exemplary disciplinary records. They have earned multiple college degrees, worked as caregivers for elderly incarcerated individuals in hospice, and been mentors in college programs — committed to giving back to others.

“When I visited the prison three weeks ago, one of the wardens told me he would feel comfortable having them as neighbors. Twenty-four family members, including their parents’ siblings, have released statements fully supporting Lyle and Erik and have respectfully requested that the justice system free them.”

While she acknowledges that “the killings are not excusable,” Kardashian says she believes “the trial and punishment these brothers received were more befitting a serial killer than two individuals who endured years of sexual abuse by the very people they loved and trusted.

“I don’t believe that spending their entire natural lives incarcerated was the right punishment for this complex case. Had this crime been committed and trialed today, I believe the outcome would have been dramatically different.”

She concludes: “We owe it to those little boys who lost their childhoods, who never had a chance to be heard, helped or saved.”

Kardashian is a longtime advocate for criminal justice reform, and is reported to have discussed prison reform with the inmates during her prison visit.

Monsters stars Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny as José and Kitty, with Cooper Koch and Nicholas Chavez as the brothers.

Since the series arrived on Netflix, viewers have been cautioning others on social media about the graphic nature of the violence depicted in the show.

The Sopranos: ‘Annoyed’ cast member criticises their final scene in HBO show

The Sopranos: ‘Annoyed’ cast member criticises their final scene in HBO show

One of the main cast members from The Sopranos is not happy with her final scene in the show.

The HBO series ended in 2007 with a finale that continues to be meticulously analysed to this day. It depicts a seemingly ordinary yet extremely tense restaurant scene between Tony (James Gandolfini) and his family, which ends with the screen cutting to black.

Viewers were left stunned by the moment and, over the years, many have assumed this stylistic decision symbolised the show’s protagonist getting ‘whacked’. Ever since, creator David Chase has been fielding requests for clarification – and, in 2020, even referred to it as a “death scene”.

Now, a few weeks after Chase highlighted a season three scene that might reveal the “truth” behind what actually happened, Lorraine Bracco, who played Tony’s therapist Dr Jennifer Melfi, has candidly hit out at her character’s last appearance.

Melfi’s final appearance occurs in the penultimate episode and shows her cutting ties with a visibly upset Tony – and Bracco said she was “not very happy” with this being the end of their relationship.

“I was also not very happy the way David ended it,” she told SiriusXM show The Spotlight With Jessica Shaw, adding: “I thought it was bad and wrong. I was annoyed. I told him, ‘How do you invest five years into someone’s life and just walk away?’ I said, ‘That is not cool.’ And you know, that was it.”

While many believe that Tony died when the screen cut to black in the finale, Bracco has a more optimistic outlook.

Expressing the hope that he survived, the Goodfellas actor said: “Honestly, I think they bumped into each other in restaurants and stuff like that. I don’t know. I think part of me wants to believe that she took a moment away from him, and they got back together, back in therapy. I could believe that.”

Bracco recently revealed in two-part documentary Wise Guy: David Chase and The Sopranos that she watched the finale live with Gandolfini who had no idea how Chase had decided to end the show.

“I was with Jim and he said, ‘That’s it?!’ she said, adding: “He couldn’t believe it.”

Meanwhile, Drea de Matteo, who played Adriana La Cerva, said the abrupt cut to black made her think there had been a power cut, stating: “I started calling everybody, like, ‘Yo, did my TV just go out?’”

'The mother in law from hell!' cry Married At First Sight fans as groom meets the family

MARRIED At First Sight fans have hit out at “the mother in law from hell” after a disastrous visit to one of the newlyweds’ flats.

Viewers of the E4 show couldn’t believe their ears after Lacey Martin’s mum and sister Paige came to visit her and husband Nathan Campbell.

MAFS fans have branded Lacey's mum as 'the mother in law from hell'

First, her mother cornered Nathan in the kitchen and intensely quizzed him about whether he actually fancied Lacey – or sister Paige.

The barrage of questions continued over dinner, before the mother in law burst into tears when Nathan made a joke about her cooking.

Vegetarian Nathan ‘bantered’ that the chicken fajitas she had whipped up for them ‘looked like they were from the bottom of the bin’.

Fans were aghast at how the visit went and felt sorry for Nathan, who suffers from ADHD.

Writing on X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan blasted: “Lacey’s mum = mother in law from hell.”

Another added: “Laceys mum is MONSTER IN LAW.”

A third chimed in: “Oh Lacey’s mum is awful the mother in law from hell I would be so embarrassed I feel so sorry for him.”

And someone else agreed: “Legit a mother in law that you wouldn’t want to have.”

Other viewers are also convinced Lacey’s mum has an ulterior motive for being on MAFS alongside her daughter.

“Looks like Lacey’s mum needs to be on the show herself, her acting is fits in with the madness of this show,” added another fan.

Agreeing, another said: “Lacey’s mum is only there to be the centre of attention.”

This isn’t the first time Lacey’s mum has come under fire by fans.

She found herself in the spotlight during her daughter and Nathan’s wedding episode earlier in the series.

As he made his big entrance for the first time, she shouted across the wedding venue about his appearance.

“Wow, wow, oh my god. Can we swap?!” she yelled.

Mafs couples that have stood the test of time

Loved-up Tayah Victoria and Adam Aveling of series six fame had the first Mafs baby.

The pair couldn’t keep their hands off each other on the programme and quickly found their feet in the outside world, moving into Adam’s Doncaster home.

Just 18 months after meeting, the couple welcomed their daughter Beau.

Season five couple Michelle Walder and Owen Jenkins also managed to make their marriage work away from the cameras and had their first child in December.

Teacher Michelle, 29, has no regrets about taking part in the experiment. She told us: “I just feel very lucky and thankful that it has worked out – and excited for everything to come.”

Michelle and Owen were both sick of dating apps when they applied in 2019.

Owen recalled: “I had been out for some drinks with a friend after work.

“While he was out for a cigarette I was scrolling on Instagram waiting for him to come back in.

“The MAFS advert was the last thing I saw, and I joked, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if I signed up?’

“A few beers later when I was back at home I sent in the application, and the rest is history.”

Another couple to make Mafs UK history is Zoe Clifton and Jenna Robinson.

Despite a slight rocky start, where they clashed over Jenna’s vegan lifestyle, the show’s first same sex pairing are still going strong.

They even have a successful podcast together called Life With a Pod.

Jenna shed light on being involved in the show earlier this year when she told us: “We’re not legally married, and I never felt like we were. I definitely feel the process makes you take the relationship a lot more seriously and having the help of the experts… if you can survive that process it sets a firm foundation for a long-lasting relationship.”

“Oh wow!” she added, before gasping and holding placing her hands on her face in shock.

Sitting in the front row, Lacey’s mum then continued towards Nathan: “Mummy’s got the approval, she likes!

“Very handsome man, very very handsome man.”

Fans were very quick to brand her “inappropriate”, with one adding: “Genuinely think I would die if my mum acted that way around my husband.”

Nobody Wants This star reveals she was secretly five months pregnant while filming series

Justine Lupe has revealed she was five months pregnant while filming Netflix’s hit show Nobody Wants This.

The 35-year-old actor, who plays the sister to Kristen Bell’s Joanne in the new romcom, has said online that during filming, she attempted to keep her pregnancy a secret from the cast and crew until her Gucci skirt ripped open on set.

“Nobody Wants This is out on @netflix today! This show carried me through my first 5+ months of pregnancy with so much warmth,” Lupe wrote online.

She shared the funny story of how her cast and crew discovered that she was expecting, writing: “And a cast and crew who supported me from the moment my Gucci skirt ripped open in both the front and backsides on set at 2am when they had no idea I was pregnant and thought I was just rapidly falling apart…”

She shared her thanks for “having a fully pregnant showrunner in @erinfoster, a relentless champion for motherhood in @kristenanniebell, a DP in @adrianpengcorreia who knows how to work the s*** out of camera to make me look, well, not pregnant.”

The newly-released romcom series follows an unlikely romance between Joanne (Kristen Bell), an agnostic serial dater and Noah (Adam Brody), a progressive rabbi who has just come out of a long-term relationship.

The pair spend months navigating how to balance their intense chemistry with their differing values, and Joanne must decide whether she wants to convert to Judaism to be with Noah.

Since its release, the show has been met with widespread praise but also criticism from people who believe the show “villainises” Jewish women.

The show’s creator Erin Foster based the series on her own marriage to her husband Simon Tikhman. Foster converted to Judaism before they married.

In an article titled “Nobody Wants This Mean-Spirited Depiction of Jewish Women in Nobody Wants This”, TIME magazine’s Esther Zuckerman wrote that the series seems to ‘loathe Jewish women, who are portrayed as nags, harpies, and the ultimate villains of this story’”.

Zuckerman continued: “I wanted to be swept away by a rom-com. Instead, I was faced with the reality that maybe this show actually hates me.”

Zuckerman further writes that the non-Jewish woman, called a “shiksa”, has long been “idolised by Jewish men in popular culture”.

In a review of the show for Glamour magazine, Jessica Randolf wrote: “I can’t imagine any guy who watches this show who would then say, ‘I really want to date a Jewish girl!’”

“We come off as controlling, marriage-hungry women who want to plan dinner parties and alienate anyone who doesn’t share those same dreams.”

However, Foster told the LA Times in response: “I think we need positive Jewish stories right now.”

“I think it’s interesting when people focus on, ‘Oh, this is a stereotype of Jewish people,’ when you have a rabbi as the lead. A hot, cool, young rabbi who smokes weed.”

She continued: “That’s the antithesis of how people view a Jewish rabbi, right?”
