Nobody Wants This star reveals she was secretly five months pregnant while filming series
Justine Lupe has revealed she was five months pregnant while filming Netflix’s hit show Nobody Wants This.
The 35-year-old actor, who plays the sister to Kristen Bell’s Joanne in the new romcom, has said online that during filming, she attempted to keep her pregnancy a secret from the cast and crew until her Gucci skirt ripped open on set.
“Nobody Wants This is out on @netflix today! This show carried me through my first 5+ months of pregnancy with so much warmth,” Lupe wrote online.
She shared the funny story of how her cast and crew discovered that she was expecting, writing: “And a cast and crew who supported me from the moment my Gucci skirt ripped open in both the front and backsides on set at 2am when they had no idea I was pregnant and thought I was just rapidly falling apart…”
She shared her thanks for “having a fully pregnant showrunner in @erinfoster, a relentless champion for motherhood in @kristenanniebell, a DP in @adrianpengcorreia who knows how to work the s*** out of camera to make me look, well, not pregnant.”
The newly-released romcom series follows an unlikely romance between Joanne (Kristen Bell), an agnostic serial dater and Noah (Adam Brody), a progressive rabbi who has just come out of a long-term relationship.
The pair spend months navigating how to balance their intense chemistry with their differing values, and Joanne must decide whether she wants to convert to Judaism to be with Noah.
Since its release, the show has been met with widespread praise but also criticism from people who believe the show “villainises” Jewish women.
The show’s creator Erin Foster based the series on her own marriage to her husband Simon Tikhman. Foster converted to Judaism before they married.

In an article titled “Nobody Wants This Mean-Spirited Depiction of Jewish Women in Nobody Wants This”, TIME magazine’s Esther Zuckerman wrote that the series seems to ‘loathe Jewish women, who are portrayed as nags, harpies, and the ultimate villains of this story’”.
Zuckerman continued: “I wanted to be swept away by a rom-com. Instead, I was faced with the reality that maybe this show actually hates me.”
Zuckerman further writes that the non-Jewish woman, called a “shiksa”, has long been “idolised by Jewish men in popular culture”.
In a review of the show for Glamour magazine, Jessica Randolf wrote: “I can’t imagine any guy who watches this show who would then say, ‘I really want to date a Jewish girl!’”
“We come off as controlling, marriage-hungry women who want to plan dinner parties and alienate anyone who doesn’t share those same dreams.”
However, Foster told the LA Times in response: “I think we need positive Jewish stories right now.”
“I think it’s interesting when people focus on, ‘Oh, this is a stereotype of Jewish people,’ when you have a rabbi as the lead. A hot, cool, young rabbi who smokes weed.”
She continued: “That’s the antithesis of how people view a Jewish rabbi, right?”

Great British Bake Off’s Jeff mocks dramatically quitting the show after just two episodes
Great British Bake Off contestant, Jeff, who quit the newest season of the show after just two episodes, has opened up on his experience on the baking contest, while also mocking his early exit.
The former university lecturer, who was suffering from illness during episode one’s “cake week”, had decided “I’ve had enough” in the latest episode of the show.
Speaking to presenter Alison Hammond, the 57-year-old had said “I’m done” due to feeling unwell for a second week running. Consoling Jeff, Hammond said: “You tried man. You tried.”
In a new appearance on The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice on Thursday (3 October), Jeff, who is originally from Brooklyn, appeared alongside the other baker who has been eliminated so far, 71-year-old Hazel.
Speaking to host Jo Brand, Jeff immediately made a joke about his short stint on the show. As he sat down to be interviewed, he said, “I’m done. Sorry, I’m out of here,” which prompted a huge laugh from the audience.
Brand then asked Jeff about an awkward moment between him and judge Paul Hollywood, who attempted to say “coffee” in a stereotypical New York accent. The comedian asked him if “that was the point you decided you’d had enough?”
Laughing, Jeff said in response: “I was walking. That was it. I’d had enough.”
Jeff did say that he had been feeling under the weather on the show but that he was “feeling better” now and revealed that he is still baking and is “busy planning the wedding cake for my son’s wedding”.
After his dramatic exit, Jeff penned a letter, shared on the show’s X/Twitter account, writing: “The Bake Off has been an amazing and challenging experience of a lifetime.”
He added: “Although I was not able to continue for long, I had the pleasure of meeting all of the incredible bakers from series 15. What a wonderful group of people and they were also excellent bakers.”

Jeff concluded the note by saying: “The production team are the nicest, most hard-working people you will ever come across. They are so supportive and positive. All the very best, always, Jeff with every good wish!”
Episode two of the latest season of Bake Off was filled with chaos.
Aside from Jeff quitting, 31-year-old midwife Illiyin, who impressed the judges during episode one, told the crew she “felt a bit dizzy”, before being helped to the floor by medics and put in the recovery position.
The final drama came when Dylan fell off his chair, to which Essex car mechanic, Andy, exclaimed: “They’re dropping like flies!”

Gemma Collins reveals plans to become a foster carer on Good Morning Britain after struggling to become a mum
Gemma Collins reveals plans to become a foster carer on Good Morning Britain after struggling to conceive
The reality star, 43, was inspired by her mum who grew up in a foster home.
She spoke up on her plans as the national fostering group warned of a caring crisis.
The Towie star invited Good Morning Britain into her home and told viewers: “I make a good dinner. I’ve got a lot of love to give.”
She said finding her family on Who Do You Think You Are gave her the idea.
One key part of her family history is her mother Joan’s story, who was sadly abandoned at the hospital as a baby.
READ MORE ON GEMMA COLLINS
“Why was she left at the hospital? Why did they never come back for her?” Gemma questioned on the show, before revealing her mother “never talks about it.”
“I just think it’s too painful for her to go there,” the star continued.
It comes a year after Gemma told of the devastating moment doctors advised her to terminate her pregnancy after they told her the unborn baby “was not right”.
In a heart-rending podcast, the Towie star revealed staff had found that the baby was intersex.
Gemma, 43, sobbed as she candidly opened up on the medical instruction after suffering three previous miscarriages.
The telly favourite has made no secret of her desire to become a mum with partner Rami Hawash, 49.
She has always been frank about her desire for a family.
She said on the Everything I Know About Me podcast: “Something is not right, they said to me your baby could be a hermaphrodite.
“You can imagine I had no idea what the word was. I had to look it up. It was a real shock.
“They advised me you need to have a termination because this baby is not going to be right.”
Gemma got tearful as she added: “In a single instant, I learned that I’d been carrying a baby and lost it, meaning that once again I found my longstanding dreams of motherhood shattered into pieces.”
An intersex person is born with both male and female characteristics. This could be genitalia, hormones, internal anatomy or chromosomes and is a spectrum.
Conditions include Partial Androgen Insensitivity in which a person has a vulva, but no womb, and testes.
The term “hermaphrodite” comes from mythology and is preferably not used among people who are intersex, according to interACT, an advocate group for young people who are intersex.
BABY TRAGEDY
Gemma sadly suffered her first miscarriage in 2012.
Eight years later she suffered a second miscarriage during the coronavirus pandemic.
She is now a bonus mum to Rami’s son Tristan, aged five.
She admitted she was still “holding onto the dream” of becoming a mum last year.
The star, who has polycystic ovary syndrome, said: “I pray every night that everything’s going to work out for me.
“Having a miscarriage with someone you love very much was very heartbreaking.”
Polycystic ovary syndrome is a common condition that means the ovaries do not regularly release eggs and can make pregnancy difficult.
Gemma’s baby hopes were given a boost in December when F Word chef Gordon Ramsay‘s wife Tana, 49, gave birth to their sixth child.
At the time, she said: “The Tana Ramsay news was the greatest thing to wake up to. Incredible.”
“It really made me think positively about my future and kind of took the pressure off.
“I don’t think anyone knew she was pregnant, so it was a lovely surprise, but I got butterflies in my stomach when I saw it.”
Everything to know about Gemma Collins
What does it mean to be ‘intersex’?
A person who is intersex has both male and female characteristics, such as internal organs, genitalia or chromosomes that don’t fit the definition of male or female.
There are several conditions that fall under intersex, making it a bit like a spectrum.
And to be intersex is not rare – around 1.7 per cent of people are estimated to be so.
Other terms for intersex are differences in sex development (DSD) and hermaphrodite, which is outdated and considered offensive.
How might someone who is intersex look?
A person who is intersex could have:
- Male of female genitalia but on the insides, anatomy of the other sex, such as testes or a uterus
- Have genitals that appear something in between male or female
- A large clitoris, or small testicles, or a urethra that is not at the end of a penis but near to the perineum
When is it diagnosed?
It is typically noticed at birth and a baby will go through tests, such as an ultrasound, to understand a clear diagnosis.
The NHS says: “In England you need to register your baby’s birth within 42 days. This is usually enough time to complete the tests, discuss the results with your child’s care team and identify your baby’s sex.”
However, sometimes differences are not spotted until puberty or even adulthood, such as when a person does not have periods because they don’t have female hormones or internal organs, despite having a vagina.
It’s even possible for a person to never realise they are intersex.
What happens next?
Intersex isn’t something that is considered a disease or something to be ‘fixed’.
Medical intervention may happen if there are serious medical problems.
Some people who are intersex may consider altering the appearance of their genitals, having hormone therapy or psychological support.
But intersex should not be confused with transgender.
Many organisations, such as the Human Rights Watch, say surgery for young intersex children is not necessary and parents should hold of making decisions until their child is old enough to decide themselves.
Others say parents should make their own informed decisions.
Examples of conditions
- Complete Androgen Insensitivity
- Partial Androgen Insensitivity
- Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia
- Swyer’s
- Klinefelter’s
- Hypospadias
For more information, see interACT or DSD Families.

The Sopranos: ‘Annoyed’ cast member criticises their final scene in HBO show
One of the main cast members from The Sopranos is not happy with her final scene in the show.
The HBO series ended in 2007 with a finale that continues to be meticulously analysed to this day. It depicts a seemingly ordinary yet extremely tense restaurant scene between Tony (James Gandolfini) and his family, which ends with the screen cutting to black.
Viewers were left stunned by the moment and, over the years, many have assumed this stylistic decision symbolised the show’s protagonist getting ‘whacked’. Ever since, creator David Chase has been fielding requests for clarification – and, in 2020, even referred to it as a “death scene”.
Now, a few weeks after Chase highlighted a season three scene that might reveal the “truth” behind what actually happened, Lorraine Bracco, who played Tony’s therapist Dr Jennifer Melfi, has candidly hit out at her character’s last appearance.
Melfi’s final appearance occurs in the penultimate episode and shows her cutting ties with a visibly upset Tony – and Bracco said she was “not very happy” with this being the end of their relationship.
“I was also not very happy the way David ended it,” she told SiriusXM show The Spotlight With Jessica Shaw, adding: “I thought it was bad and wrong. I was annoyed. I told him, ‘How do you invest five years into someone’s life and just walk away?’ I said, ‘That is not cool.’ And you know, that was it.”
While many believe that Tony died when the screen cut to black in the finale, Bracco has a more optimistic outlook.
Expressing the hope that he survived, the Goodfellas actor said: “Honestly, I think they bumped into each other in restaurants and stuff like that. I don’t know. I think part of me wants to believe that she took a moment away from him, and they got back together, back in therapy. I could believe that.”
Bracco recently revealed in two-part documentary Wise Guy: David Chase and The Sopranos that she watched the finale live with Gandolfini who had no idea how Chase had decided to end the show.
“I was with Jim and he said, ‘That’s it?!’ she said, adding: “He couldn’t believe it.”
Meanwhile, Drea de Matteo, who played Adriana La Cerva, said the abrupt cut to black made her think there had been a power cut, stating: “I started calling everybody, like, ‘Yo, did my TV just go out?’”
