Neil Patrick Harris reveals his real penis was in hit film Gone Girl – but blink and you’ll miss it
HOW I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris has revealed that his real penis is visible in the hit film Gone Girl – but only for a second.
Viewers will no doubt remember the moment Ben Affleck bears it all in the movie – but turns out Neil actually did it first.
In Gone Girl, Neil, 51, plays Desi Collings, the former lover and friend of Amy (Rosamund Pike). She turns to him for support after going on the run in order to frame her husband for her murder.
The twisted psychological thriller throws a lot at the audience, so nudity is the least of it, but Neil still gets his moment in the spotlight.
When asked whether his penis is visible at all in the film by the Daily Beast, Neil confirmed that viewers can in fact see it, but only for a second.
Often actors use prosthetics when they are required to do nude scenes to protect their modesty. However, like Barry Keoghan in Saltburn, he opted to go au natural.
MORE ON NEIL PATRICK HARRIS
The blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment comes close to the end of the film during an intimate but gory scene with Amy.
Speaking about his nudity, Neil added: “Had I been able to film my scene in a nice steamy, warm shower, perhaps there would’ve been more to talk about.
“But in my particular circumstance, there was a lot of blood flowing…elsewhere.”
If you’ve seen Gone Girl, you’ll know the blood sex scene Harris is referring to.
After manipulating Desi into believing she is in danger, Amy seduces him before brutally slashing his throat with a hidden scalpel.
She kills him instantly and Desi’s blood pours out of his neck after he collapses on the bed. Amy stages the murder to make it look like self-defence, to fit her kidnap victim narrative.
Speaking about the scene, Neil admitted that it took a lot of technical work to make it so incredibly gory and yet quiet and eerie.
“David [Fincher, director] imagined that with a sharp knife, getting your throat slit, you wouldn’t feel any pain.
“So, he would make me show him what it would look like. Because it was also mid-orgasm, so it was ‘I’m about to, I’m about to, uh-uh-uh-uh’ [mimicking sex] and then it was this very gruesome, intentionally gruesome feeling of like calm, of confusion.
“Of, what’s, why’s everything warm? Op, why’s it red? And then, what?
Neil Patrick Harris’ career to date
Neil Patrick is a household name best known for playing the title character on Doogie Howser M.D. and Barney Stinson on How I Met Your Mother, but what are some of his other career highlights?
Former child star Neil Patrick Harris shot to fame in the late 1980s playing medical prodigy Doogie Howser.
In 1997, Neil launched his professional theatre career. His first role was in the musical Rent. He then later when on to play the creator of Rent Jonathan Larson in the musical of his life, Tick, Tick… BOOM! in London.
After than he enjoyed a busy TV and film career that included appearances in popular 90s and 00s shows like Blossom, Will & Grace – before taking on another iconic TV role.
How I Met Your Mother short Neil into stardom once more as he was introduced to a whole new generation of young viewers. His character Barney is widely believed to have the best character actor on the show, despite it revolving more around Ted’s (Josh Radnor) love life.
Neil’s 2010 Glee cameo was also a standout moment for the teen drama series. Neil appeared as Bryan Ryan in the episode Dream On.
After starring as Desi in Gone Girl and blind tutor Will in the movie Beastly, Neil took on a number of presenting jobs, notably hosting of annual Prime Time Emmy Award and Tony Award events, along with the 2015 Oscars.
From 2015 to 2017, Neil took the lead in another series. He played Count Olaf in Netflix‘s A Series of Unfortunate Events.
Neil also donned a very similar look as he guest starred in the BBC‘s Doctor Who 60th anniversary special.
He then made his return to the How I Met Your Mother universe, reprising his role as Barney in two episodes of Hilary Duff’s spin-off How I Met Your Father.
And in 2024, Neil returned to the world of Jonathan Larson, this time directing the stage revival of Tick, Tick… BOOM!
“And then you start blacking out because all of the blood that’s going to your brain is now going out your neck.”
The psychological thriller Gone Girl was released in 2014 and is based on Gillian Flynn’s novel of the same name.
Ben Affleck stars as Nick Dunne, a husband who becomes the prime suspect in the disappearance of his wife, Amy.
Amy goes missing on their fifth wedding anniversary and everyone thinks Nick had something to do with it.
When her diary entries are revealed, it makes things look even worse for Nick, after she opened up about her turbulent marriage and how Nick cheated on her.
However, the investigation takes a dark turn after it turns out that Amy faked her disappearance to frame Nick for her “murder,” as revenge.
Gone Girl is available to stream on Disney+.

Ryan Murphy shares surprise update on future of Monsters in light of new court hearing for Menendez brothers
Ryan Murphy has teased that there could be more episodes of Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story after a new court hearing was scheduled to discuss the brothers’ case.
The latest installment in Murphy’s Monsters series for Netflix stars Cooper Koch and Nicholas Alexander Chavez as killers Erik and Lyle Menendez, respectively. The brothers are serving life sentences for the 1989 murders of their parents, José and Kitty (played by Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny in the series).
After the series debuted on September 21, pressure has mounted to review their case as new evidence could prove they were victims of sexual abuse by their father. The brothers have long argued they should have been tried for manslaughter, not murder, which would significantly reduce their sentences.
On Thursday (October 3), Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced that his office is reviewing possible evidence included in petitions filed by the brothers last year. The new information will be discussed at a hearing scheduled for November 26.
Speaking to Variety’s Marc Malkin, Murphy said in light of the news: “I think what I would be interested in doing, if Nicholas [Alexander Chavez] and Cooper [Koch] would agree to do it, is maybe one or two episodes that continue the story.”
Soon after Gascón announced he was looking at the new evidence, Kim Kardashian, who has advocated for prison reform and for the innocence of unfairly incarcerated individuals in the past, wrote an essay for NBC News in which she stated that “they are not monsters.” Kardashian and Koch visited the siblings in prison in San Diego in September.
Murphy, who is a close friend of Kardashian, added of her involvement: “She knew a lot about the case, and she grew up with it, but she didn’t know about a lot of the sexual abuse and she immediately became very interested in helping them.
“So many people are now interested in the case and it speaks to me about the power of television and what it can do. It can shine a spotlight on something and it can illuminate dark corners.”
Erik was quick to describe the Netflix series as a “dishonest portrayal” of his and his brother’s story, accusing Murphy of “disheartening slander.”
However, Murphy argues that the attention the show received may have influenced Gascón’s decision to review their case. “We gave them their moment in the court of public opinion. Basically, we did give them a platform,” Murphy said. “I think they can be out of prison by Christmas. I really believe that.”
Gascón has made clear that, depending on the court’s decision, the brothers could “walk out.”
“Until we get there, we’re not sure yet which direction this will go,” he said.
Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story is streaming on Netflix now.

Love Island’s Ciaran and Nicole break silence on Mimii and Josh’s split after coming second on show
LOVE Island runners-up Ciaran Davies and Nicole Samuel have broken their silence on Mimii and Josh’s shock break-up.
While the pair has remained focused on their own relationship since leaving the Villa, they now are one of the few couples still standing from this year’s line-up.
Addressing the split, the couple – who were at Thorpe Park’s annual Fright Night- told The Sun: “We haven’t spoken to Josh or Mimi about it, they know what’s best for them.”
It was revealed this week that Mimii Ngulube and Josh Oyinsan called time on their relationship just two months after the pair were crowned the winners of Love Island 2024.
Confirming their split through social media, Mimii told fans: “Hi everyone, I know that a lot of you have been wondering about Josh and I and why we haven’t been making appearances.
“The truth is we have been trying to figure it out since leaving the villa, but unfortunately things aren’t going to work out between us right now.
“I know it’s a big disappointment for a lot of you as it is for me too, your support for us hasn’t gone unnoticed and I will forever be grateful for it, you guys are the reason we made it to this point.
“God bless you all.”
OG star Mimii and Josh – who entered the villa as a bombshell – proved runaway winners after Love Island released the exact voting statistics.
It showed they scooped 41% of the viewer vote, with Ciaran and Nicole finishing in second place with 35%.
They might have lost the Love Island final, but the Welsh couple won the hearts of many viewers and are still going strong.
Back in August, the finalists revealed that they had moved in together in a TikTok live.
The couple were asked if they’d moved in together by fans.
“You can answer that!” Nicole laughed, as Ciaran looped his arm around her shoulder.
“Already moved in!” Ciaran grinned, with Nicole adding: “Yeaah!”
Halfway through the video they were joined by Ayo Odukoya and Jess Spencer, who seemed to be just as surprised that they had made the big step.

Strictly Come Dancing to make history with brand new dance and music genre on Saturday
Strictly Come Dancing is making history this week with a brand new style of dance, which has never before aired on the programme’s 20-year history.
The wholesome family series has battled scandals and controversies over the last year, but has returned to the BBC with a brand new cast of celebrities eager to show off their moves.
Although the show has kept it relatively safe with its song choices this year – aside from some controversy around the decision to have footballer Paul Merson dance to “Vindaloo” – it is ready to venture into new territory this week.
TV medic Dr Punam Krishan, who is partnered with Gorka Márquez, teased the performance on Thursday’s episode of spin-off show It Takes Two.
The pair will be performing a traditional Bollywood dance for Movie Week, in a nod to Dr Krishan’s South Asian heritage.
“What we’re doing, is for the first time, it’s never been done before,” Marquez had hinted during last week’s results show.
The song choice for the performance, “Bhole Chudiye”, is from the film Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, one of the biggest movies in the Indian movie industry. Dr Krishan called it the equivalent of Love Actually.
“Essentially, it’s about families coming together, there’s lots of cheesy love stories, it’s about reunions, generations… it’s just such an all-time, feel-good film,” she told host Janette Manrara.
“And much like Love Actually, it’s where all the iconic actors and actresses of Bollywood came together. I’ve watched the film over a hundred times with my sister, my mum… it’s a proper comfort movie.”

Last year, Marquez was partnered with BBC radio presenter Nikita Kanda who had hoped to bring her South Asian roots to the dancefloor before she was voted off. Dr Krishan said that the moment was significant for representation in the media.
“When I was growing up I never imagined seeing Bollywood on ‘normal’ telly, as I call it,” she said. She hoped the performance would be welcomed by the South Asian community but also by “any child that wants to see something different or feel included.”
She continued, “Representation matters, so for me this is a huge moment. I can’t wait, I know my granny in India is just so excited. It’ll be really special.”
Although Strictly has had Bollywood performances by professionals before, Will Young and Karen Clifton performed to Nicole Scherzinger’s song “Jai Ho”, which samples Bollywood music by AR Rahman, it will be the first time that a traditional Bollywood dance will be performed by celebrities.
