Early Computing: Crash Course Computer Science #1

Hello, world! Welcome to Crash Course Computer Science! So today, we’re going to take a look at computing’s origins, because even though our digital computers are relatively new, the need for computation is not. Since the start of civilization itself, humans have had an increasing need for special devices to help manage laborious tasks, and as the scale of society continued to grow, these computational devices began to play a crucial role in amplifying our mental abilities. From the abacus and astrolabe to the difference engine and tabulating machine, we’ve come a long way to satisfying this increasing need, and in the process completely transformed commerce, government, and daily life.

I sincerely appreciate your precious lecture. I started learning computer programming last week and your lecture would help me a lot get familiar with computer science since my major is not very related to it 🙂 Actually I'm making summary note of your lecture cuz Im supposed to repeatedly read through it. And there is something to check out first though. Do you mind if I upload the summary on my blog publicly ?
Or does anyone know if public upload of summary note makes any problem sth related to intellectual property?

If anyone would like to learn more, you can read a book called "Computer: A History of the Information Machine", or for something a little more narrative-like: "Innovators" by Walter Isaacson (the author of the Steve Jobs biography, also another very good read that goes more in-depth on the history of the Personal Computer).

Yet your video is so refreshing straight forward and really nice to watch. Even for people who think they know quite a bit about computers … thanks.
