Star Wars Actor ‘Had To Bow Out Of’ Ahsoka Spin-Off Due To Pay Dispute
Star Wars actor Claudia Black has claimed that she has been forced to bow out of one of the franchise’s TV spin-offs due to a dispute over pay.
Claudia played Klothow in three episodes of the Disney+ show Ahsoka, which debuted in 2023 and centred around the Clone Wars and Mandalorian character of the same name.
However, during a recent interview with Bleeding Cool, the Australian performer claimed that while she was initially due to reprise the role of Klothow in the forthcoming second season, she ultimately withdrew from the series after they did not offer the money she needed to support her family.
“They picked up season two, picked me up with it, and then Disney, which is structuring things differently these days, could not pay me what I needed to be paid as a single mother to keep all my responsibilities going at home in Los Angeles, because they were filming in London,” she claimed.
“It was not something that they could make happen, and therefore, I had to bow out for season two.”
Claudia added that the decision was a “very sad” one for her, particularly as she’d so enjoyed her time on season one, and grew up as a Star Wars fan in the 70s and 80s.
“I’m grateful that I got to be in that universe,” she added, hailing the “lovely people” and “lovely directors” she got to work on as part of the Ahsoka cast.
“They call it ‘show business’ for a reason,” she lamented. “It’s like 90 percent business and 10 percent show. They could not, sadly, support a single mum, and I’m very sad about that, but I also understand market forces being what they are, and the very delicate time in the business to even be able to afford to make anything at all. We all had to do our sums and move on.”
HuffPost UK has contacted Disney for comment.
The character of Ahsoka Tano was first introduced in the animated Star Wars series The Clone Wars, with Rosario Dawson introducing her in live-action form in The Mandalorian, before she landed her own spin-off show.
Star Wars: Ahsoka also features appearances from Hayden Christensen and Anthony Daniels, reprising their roles as Anakin Skywalker and C3PO, respectively, while David Tennant lends his voice to another droid, Huyang.
The response to the show was mostly positive, including six Emmy nominations (and one win).
The first season of Star Wars: Ahsoka is now streaming on Disney+.
