There was a lot of hype surrounding Salem’s Lot heading into its long-awaited streaming premiere in early October. The Gary Dauberman-directed adaptation of Stephen King‘s beloved 1975 novel originally finished filming in the summer of 2022, but then it was seemingly put on the shelf for an indefinite amount of time by Warner Bros. Pictures. King himself, however, helped bring attention back to the project in February when he tweeted his positive thoughts about it and expressed his confusion over its behind-the-scenes delays. Shortly afterward, WB announced it would be releasing Salem’s Lot as a Max exclusive.
King’s support of the film did a lot to bolster the early word-of-mouth surrounding it, but that didn’t stop Salem’s Lot from being welcomed with mostly mixed reviews when it premiered on October 3. The film was notably criticized for its rushed retelling of King’s iconic vampire story and its inability to fully flesh out its characters. Some, consequently, speculated that the movie’s biggest problems may have been due to studio interference and corporate-mandated cuts.
Whether that’s true or not is unclear. In an interview with Den of Geek, though, Dauberman did confirm that his original cut of Salem’s Lot was much, much longer than the 113-minute version that was released. “My first cut was about three hours,” the filmmaker revealed. “There’s a lot left out. My first draft of the script is 180-odd pages or something.”
While speaking with Den of Geek, Dauberman offered some insight into what specifically from his original, 3-hour version of Salem’s Lot ended up being left on the cutting room floor. He singled out one scene, in particular, from King’s original novel in which Ben Mears (played as an adult in Dauberman’s film by Lewis Pullman) has a ghostly encounter in a haunted house. “In the book, Ben sneaks into the Marsten House and he sees the ghost of Hubert Marsten,” Dauberman noted. “I shot that and it used to open the movie, but it seemed to muddy the waters for audiences … That was the hardest thing to cut because I love the sequence.”
Knowing that a longer and likely more fleshed-out version of Salem’s Lot did exist at some point may only make watching the disappointingly slight cut that was actually released all the more frustrating for fans of its 1975 source material. For his part, though, Dauberman seems to have — for the time being, at least — come to terms with the cuts he had to make in order to get Salem’s Lot in front of the public.
It’s a safe bet that Bluetooth speakers will be on sale for October Prime Day, but you can already save on one of our favorites before the event arrives in a few days. The Marshall Emberton II has dropped to $100, which is 41 percent off and about $20 cheaper than the price it’s been going for over the past few months. In our testing, we found it to be stylish and compact, and it provides balanced output and 360-degree sound.
The first thing you’ll notice about the Marshall Emberton II is its style, which draws on the company’s history and looks like a scaled-down Marshall amp. Front and center is its vintage-looking metal grille, with the company’s iconic logo prominently displayed. You can order the device in black and cream, both on sale for the same price.

Save $70 on Marshall’s surprisingly potent Bluetooth speaker.
More than looks, though, the Emberton II has upgraded specs from the first-generation model that make it an even better value (especially at this sale price). It has a pair of 10-watt full-range drivers and passive radiators that deliver imposing sound for its size. It isn’t the most room-thumping speaker, with its tuning focusing more on a balanced sound signature than eardrum-blasting power. (But it’s still plenty loud for most uses.)
Like its predecessor, it supports 360-degree sound for a multidirectional experience. If you buy a pair, you can stack them together wirelessly using Marshall’s companion app for more immersive listening. Even if you already own one, its $100 sale price could be an excellent opportunity to get a second and try linking them.

The speaker lasts over 30 hours per charge and can recharge to full in three hours. It has an IP67 dust / water rating, meaning it’s rated for up to 30 minutes of immersion in a few feet of water. The Emberton II only weighs 118 g (4.2 oz).

The iPhone SE 4 could well be the next iPhone we see from Apple – it’s rumored to be breaking cover at the start of next year – and a well-placed industry source suggests it could borrow a specific component from the iPhone 14 that launched in 2022.
According to the usually reliable Ross Young, the iPhone SE 4 will use the same display as the iPhone 14: a 6.1-inch, 1170 x 2532 pixel, Super Retina XDR OLED screen. The current 3rd-gen iPhone SE (2022) sports a 4.7-inch LCD screen, so this would be a big upgrade.
If this comes to pass it would mean the iPhone SE 4 will be joining the modern era: it’s set to be the first iPhone SE to ditch the home button and use Face ID instead of Touch ID. However, it will most likely use a display notch rather than the Dynamic Island.
What we almost certainly won’t get with this phone is an always-on display option and support for the ProMotion variable refresh rate, which remains exclusive to the Pro and Pro Max models (though that might change with the iPhone 17).

Coming soon
Same display as iPhone 14. BOE and LGD are the suppliers. Panel shipments from October…October 6, 2024
This isn’t actually a completely new rumor: for a while now, the talk has been that the iPhone SE 4 would resemble an iPhone 14, and it certainly saves Apple money if it can reuse components that have appeared on previous models.
At the moment you can actually still buy the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus direct from Apple – yours for $599 / £599 / AU$1,049 and $699 / £699 / AU$1,249. You can expect the iPhone SE 4 to come in significantly less than that.
Earlier this week we heard rumors that the iPhone SE 4 is going to arrive with an A18 chip (matching the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus), better cameras (that are along the same lines as the iPhone 15), and a new 5G modem designed by Apple.

Some of the most reliable tipsters in the business are saying the iPhone SE 4 is going to show up early in 2025, so it shouldn’t be too long before we know for sure what Apple has been working on – and whether it’s worth a place on our best iPhones list.

Apple’s iPhone 16 lineup is here, and it packs a big punch. But if you aren’t planning on upgrading, the iPhone 15 Plus is still a formidable phone for just about any user. Its large, crystal-clear 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with Dynamic Island, A16 Bionic chip for fast performance with iOS 17, and powerful dual-camera setup with 48-megapixel main and 12MP ultrawide lenses are nothing to sneeze at. And of course, you can charge it up with USB-C, since Apple finally ditched its proprietary Lightning charger as of the iPhone 15’s 2023 debut.
The iPhone 15 Plus is still a pricey phone though, whether you’re buying new or upgrading from an older model. You can expect to pay $799 for the base model, which is still a hefty chunk of change. If you’re parting with that much cash, you’ll definitely want to protect your investment, and one of the easiest ways to do so is with a good case (and a screen protector helps out too!). Here are some of the best iPhone 15 Plus cases you can buy right now.
Speck has been a trusted name for phone protection for many years, and the Presidio2 Grip MagSafe case remains one of the best you can find for the iPhone 15 Plus. With the inverted grip design, it provides exceptional grip so it’s hard to drop the phone. And with the inverted design, it is less prone to wearing out like the old design with the rubber grips that protruded. It’s one of the grippiest cases on the market.

The Presidio2 Grip MagSafe also retains a slim profile and clicky tactile buttons, and it also has impressive 13-foot drop protection thanks to the air capsules all around the sides and corners. So if you somehow manage to drop the phone with this case on, it should still be safe and sound. The case is made with 50% recycled materials, has a Microban coating to protect from stain- and odor-causing bacteria, and is fully MagSafe compatible.

You can even customize and design your own case if you so choose.
The Impact Case is one of the best offerings from Casetify. It has a fairly slim profile, but it is incredible tough, durable, and rugged for what it’s worth. Casetify also uses recycled materials from old phone cases in their cases, so they’re sustainable as well. I’ve been using Casetify cases for a long time, and they remain some of my favorites.
Though we’re talking about the Impact case here, Casetify also has some even more rugged offerings, such as the new Ultra Bounce Case, which offers drop protection up to 32-feet, but it will cost you a pretty penny ($100+).

Xiaomi 15 Pro has just leaked in all of its glory. The leaked renders of Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship smartphone reveal its design, color options, and rear camera module.
Xiaomi 15 Pro renders leak, reveal design and other details
Smartprix, in collaboration with X user Kartikey, has leaked renders of the Xiaomi 15 Pro before it launches next month. As the images confirm, the Xiaomi 15 Pro will retain the design of its predecessor, with the iconic square-shaped triple rear camera module.
The LED flash array is now relocated outside of the camera island. Xiaomi may have tweaked the design to accommodate a powerful Laser AF module.
𝗘𝗫𝗖𝗟𝗨𝗦𝗜𝗩𝗘: Here is a comprehensive look at the renders of the upcoming Xiaomi 15 Pro in collaboration with @Smartprix.
Featuring a triple camera set-up in square camera deco with four circles and flash outside of the deco. pic.twitter.com/9S1SZDVlO9
The upcoming flagship smartphone from Xiaomi will reportedly be available in three colors: black, white, and silver. Xiaomi would surely name these colors a little differently. The smartphone seems to have a sleek glass sandwich construction with a flat metal frame.
Some reports also claim the Xiaomi 15 Pro would be available in a special titanium edition as well. Perhaps the Chinese company intends to compete with the Desert Titanium version of the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
What are the specifications of the upcoming Xiaomi flagship phone?
There have been several leaks and rumors about the Xiaomi 15 Pro. They claim the flagship smartphone will have a 6.78-inch quad-curved AMOLED from TCL. The display would have a 2K resolution, 500+ PPI, and a 120Hz refresh rate.
The triple rear camera module is rumored to feature a 50 MP main camera with a 1/1.3″ sensor and f/1.4 aperture. There would be a 50 MP ultrawide and a 50 MP 5x Tele-macro camera with a 30cm minimum focus distance accompanying the main camera. There will be a 32MP front-facing camera.
Besides the professional-grade imaging hardware and stunning display, the Xiaomi 15 Pro would also pack a massive 6000mAh battery with support for 90W wired, 80W wireless, and 10W reverse wireless charging.
Xiaomi may announce its upcoming flagship smartphone will get five Android OS updates. The Titanium edition could also have satellite connectivity.
