Strictly fans praise judges for eliminating the ‘right’ celebrity after tense dance-off

Strictly Come Dancing has eliminated the second celebrity contestant of this series – with fans applauding the judges for making “the right choice”.

For the second time this season, the public were able to cast their votes for their favourite couples on Saturday night (5 October) after Movie Week. You can catch up on everything that happened here, as well as take a look at the leaderboard here.

Following a tense dance-off during Sunday night’s (6 October) results show, it is singer Toyah Willcox and professional partner Neil Jones who will be saying farewell to the dancefloor.

The pair’s elimination follows after Olympic swimmer Tom Dean became the first to go last week, alongside Strictly pro Nadiya Bychkova.

This week, Willcox, 66, and Jones, 41, found themselves up against football star Paul Merson and Karen Hauer in the second dance-off of the series.

Both couples performed their Movie Week routines again, with Willcox and Jones dancing the Samba to “Poor Unfortunate Souls” from Little Mermaid.

Meanwhile, Merson and Hauer took on the Cha Cha once again to the theme song of the 1960 western flick The Magnificent Seven.

Unfortunately for Willcox, known for hits including “It’s a Mystery” and “Thunder in the Mountains”, the judges made a unanimous decision to save Merson and Hauer.

Since the judges – Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, and Aonton Du Beke – all agreed, head judge Shirley Ballas did not have to vote. She did, however, reveal that she would have voted in line with her fellow judges.

It is clear from the reaction of Strictly fans that the majority of viewers feel the same way, with several posting to Twitter/X to praise the elimination decision.

“Right result,” wrote one person simply as others praised viewers for voting for the “right bottom two”.

Viewers were left satisfied as one fan posted, “That Strictly result is what you call the correct result and the public voting for the right people”.

However, others were less forgiving as they recalled the controversial decision to send Olympian Tom Dean home last week.

“The shock this week is that she didn’t go last week!” wrote another on X/Twitter.

Neither the decision to eliminate Willcox and Jones, nor the audience reaction to the elimination, comes as a surprise given that many viewers found both of the musician’s dances so far to be lacking.

“I bloody love Toyah and have done for 40-odd years, but she cannot dance, bless her. Still, what a total sport she is,” said one person.

Not everyone agreed as one person hit out at Merson being saved, “Poor judge’s decision. Populism honestly think not only was Toyah better but she’d have loved to continue whereas they’ll make Paul do the conga next week or something “.

Willcox, however, is sure to be disappointed with the results after vowing to “prove the doubters wrong” last week when she landed in the bottom two in a dance-off against Dean.

Following her elimination, when asked by host Tess Daly about her time on the show, Willcox called her time on the show “the best two months of my life”.

“It has been fantastic,” said the singer. “I have enjoyed every second. And you [Jones] have been phenomenal, thank you so much.”

(BBC/Guy Levy)

Jones was full of similar praise for his celebrity partner, stating: She has made me laugh so much, I have never seen someone work so hard – I’m the one asking for breaks every now and then! She just kept going, she wanted to learn so much.

“If you saw her in the hallway she’s been practising. Everyone’s been telling me have you seen Toyah practising, she’s brilliant and she’s what Strictly is all about, and I’ve loved every moment.”

The remaining 13 couples will take to the dancefloor next week, as Strictly return on Saturday (12 October) with the results show following the night after (13 October).

Strictly Come Dancing eliminates second celebrity contestant of the series

Strictly Come Dancing is now well underway, with the second contestant of the competition voted off after a brutal dance-off.

This week saw the celebrities perform a series of themed performances for Movie Week. Miranda comedian Sarah Hadland brought viewers to tears with a magical tribute to Dame Maggie Smith, in an ode to her role as Professor McGonagall in the Harry Potter movies.

Meanwhile, TV medic Dr Punam Krishan made Strictly history with the show’s first ever Bollywood routine.

The scores at the top of the leaderboard remain extremely tight with just a point between them, but there were two performers who lagged behind.

Singer Toyah Willcox and former footballer Paul Merson found themselves in the bottom two after the public vote, having also received the lowest scores from the judges with 15 and 19, respectively.

During Sunday night’s (6 October) results show, both stars performed their Movie Week routines for a second time as part of a dance-off to determine who will stay in the competition.

Wilcox and her partner Neil Jones danced the Samba to “Poor Unfortunate Souls” from Little Mermaid, while Merson and Karen Hauer performed the Cha Cha to “The Magnificent Seven” from 1960’s The Magnificent Seven.

After their dances were complete, the judges delivered their verdict, resulting in a unanimous decision to save Merson and Hauer.

Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, and Anton Du Beke all chose to save the footballer, with head judge Shirley Ballas stating that she would have also chosen to eliminate Willcox.

'He's going to be AWFUL!' fume Big Brother viewers as contestant is booed by live audience BEFORE entering the house

BIG Brother viewers have branded one contestant ”awful’ as he was booed by the live audience before even entering the house.

Blackpool lad Ryan, 28, ruffled feathers after making a dig at those who self-identify during his introduction VT tonight.

The northerner, who currently lives in Stockport and works in marketing and events, vowed to “shake up” the house in his piece-to-camera.

He said: “I feel like over the recent years, it’s gone a bit tame and people are in there for other motives.

“I think having someone normal like me in there will shake it up.”

But it was when Ryan made his “anti-woke” views clear that fans turned on him.

He said: “I think I’m strong and opinionated. There’s a lot of woke people out there.

“It’s all well and good if you want to use certain pronouns, and I get that, but it gets a bit confusing sometimes with people identifying as a spoon or whatnot.”

Following his entrance interview with hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best, Ryan received some boos from the crowd,

Viewers at home weren’t keen either as they took to social media to make their thoughts clear.

One wrote on X: “Booing Ryan immediately as he deserves mmhmmm good job crowd.”

Someone else added: “Getting bad vibes from Ryan,” with a third agreeing: “Ryan talking about people identifying as spoons. Loserr.”

A fourth fumed: “boo’ing for him already KICK HIM OUT silly t**t i know ur going to be awful.”

The launch show saw 16 new housemates move into the Big Brother house.

Former Page Three girl and soap actress Emma Morgan, 53, is one of them.

She said: “To get this opportunity at my age, I wasn’t expecting it. I was getting ready to put my feet up and do a bit of knitting.”

And amputee footballer Thomas Atkinson, 20, from Carlisle, comes to the house fresh from captaining his side to victory in the FA Disability Cup.

The goalkeeper, who was born without a left hand, was also told he would never walk after having his left leg amputated when he was two.

But he now has a total of 26 caps with the England Amputee national team.

Big Brother lineup 2024: Meet all of this year’s contestants

Get ready for big personalities, diary room gossip and blazing rows –Big Brother is back for a second series on ITV2, with presenters Will Best and AJ Odudu returning to host.

The show initially made a comeback to screens for a reboot in 2023, having previously been cancelled by Channel 4 in 2010 and Channel 5 in 2018.

During the live launch tonight (6 October), Best and Odudu will introduce a new group of 16 housemates in front of a studio audience.

This year’s housemates will be hoping to replicate the success of Jordan, the 26-year-old lawyer who walked away with the £100,000 cash prize in 2023.

Jordan, from Scunthorpe, had gone down a treat with fans for his deadpan humour. When he won, he simply declared: “I need a drink.”

Meet all the new housemates, as they’re announced, below…

Rosie, 29, is a dental assistant from Cornwall/Essex. She said she reckons she’ll be a “supportive person” in the house, and is most likely to be nominated for coming across as “quite chaotic” and “being the most annoying”. In terms of what she’d do with the prize money, Rosie said: “I have a few friends that I’d love to pay for them to have IVF treatment. I would also like to help people with mental health issues. I like helping people anyway but if I had money I’d be in a better position to do that. I’d also love to help dog charities – I love dogs!”

Emma

Aesthetics business owner Emma is 53 and from Altrincham/Essex. She can’t decide whether she’s going to bring “peace” or “drama” to the house. Emma said she’s most likely to get nominated if people don’t get her humour and think she’s too “abrupt”. Her plans for the prize money are to give some to her kids, some to her 82-year-old dad, and rent a big villa for a lovely holiday with her “nearest and dearest”.

Segun

Segun (ITV)

Segun, 25, is from Watford. He works as a charity videographer and says he is most likely to get nominated for “laughing in situations that aren’t funny”. He said: “I laugh in situations that are quite serious and people might feel disrespected. I do it just to bring some levity to situations, but I do laugh at inappropriate times.” In terms of what he’d do with the cash if he won, Segun said he’d help her mum fund the renovation of her house and donate some money to Cancer Research UK, where he’s worked.
