On the list of design influencers whose style I desperately aspire to emulate, Studio McGee is pretty high up there. Their designs are always timeless, vintage-inspired, a little bit moody, and perfectly cozy, and that’s exactly how I want my home to feel, especially around the holidays. Whenever Studio McGee comes out with a new collection at Target, I always head to my local store and pick out at least a couple of items to bring home with me. But when their holiday decor collection comes out, I simply cannot stop myself from filling up a whole cart.

I love that the Target Studio McGee collection always features a good mix of classic pieces and fun trending styles, and this year’s holiday decor is no exception. Studio McGee has come out with a couple of iterations of these velvet ornaments over the years, and they always sell out before I can grab myself a set. But this year, there’s no way I’m letting these slip past because they just so happen to perfectly match my living room color scheme. They’re just the thing I need for my cozy, vintage-inspired Christmas tree this year.

Here’s Where to Find Taylor Swift’s Viral Glitter Freckles |The Everygirl

Here's Where to Find Taylor Swift's Viral Glitter Freckles |The Everygirl

Last night at the Kansas City Chiefs game, Taylor Swift beat more than one allegation. First, she put the nasty Travis Kelce breakup rumors to rest. Second, she stepped out with a decidedly-not-boring makeup look thanks to a sparkly spray of faux freckles across her nose. Swifties across the internet immediately freaked for two major reasons: Not only is this look a bit different from Taylor’s usual vibe, but it also has a distinctly… cat-like appearance. And the best news of all, aside from the fact that it’s (maybe? hopefully?) an Easter egg of some kind? Her freckle patches are currently $15 on Amazon.

taylor swift

If you saw Taylor Swift’s glittery freckles on-screen last night and instantly thought “I need that to be me,” you’re in luck. Swift wore the Fazit makeup patches, which come in eight eye-catching colors, and, true to Taylor Swift form, are from a small, woman-owned business. Knowing the power of Taylor, these patches are bound to sell out quickly. Especially with the next leg of the Eras Tour coming up on October 18 and football season in full swing, they’re worth snagging right now.

Channel your inner Taylor Swift at a Chief’s game with gold, silver, rose gold, or even blue or orange sparkly faux freckles. If we know anything about the Taylor Swift effect, we know that these are bound to be the it-girl makeup product of October.

The Affordable Area Rugs Our Editors Love

The Affordable Area Rugs Our Editors Love

Repeat after me: An area rug is not an afterthought. Rather, rugs can add major wow factor to any space and are truly an essential in every room. A well-designed rug will instantly breathe new life into your bedroom, living room, or dining room, all while making the space look well-curated and cohesive. But if you’re hesitant to purchase a new rug because you’re under the impression that a beautiful piece will run you an entire week’s paycheck, think again. I’m here to clue you in on our editors’ all-time favorite source for rugs that are affordable, gorgeous, and high quality: Loloi. And since Loloi rugs are currently on major sale for Amazon Prime Day (we’re talking upwards of 70% off), there’s never been a better time to invest in one.

Read on for all the reasons why we think Loloi rugs are truly the best, plus some of our favorite designs.

Source: @jennasuedesign

What Is Loloi?

Unfamiliar with Loloi? Let me give you the Lo-down (ha—I had to). Loloi is a popular rug brand that offers a vast mix of styles, ranging from soft wool pieces to woven jute ones. Many are designed to have a vintage look, but they’re made with modern materials that make them extra durable and comfy underfoot. Some of their rugs are made with a special construction they call CloudPile™, which offers an ultra-plush softness I can only describe as feeling like you’re walking on a faux fur blanket.

Loloi has also collaborated with tons of big-name influencers and brands including Amber Lewis, Chris Loves Julia, Joanna Gaines, Rifle Paper Co., and more. Their rugs feature unique designs at an affordable price point, and many of our editors turn to Loloi exclusively when we’re shopping for rugs.

Why We Love Loloi Rugs

Source: @prettyrealblog

They’re ultra-affordable

One of the reasons I’ve fallen head over heels for the Loloi brand is that the pieces are stylish yet so affordable. Given that I’ve spent my 20s and early 30s living in various rental apartments, investing in a rug that’s $$$$ just doesn’t make sense, since I can’t guarantee it’ll work for me as I move from one space to another. I like that while Loloi rugs hold up well after years of use, parting with them down the line won’t cause me any major anxiety because I’ll know I’ve gotten my money’s worth.

You can find them at tons of retailers

Though only wholesale customers can purchase rugs directly from the Loloi site, you can order one of these babies practically anywhere you shop for home goods. Major online retailers including Amazon, Walmart, Wayfair, and The Home Depot carry Loloi rugs, as do boutique home decor stores including Lulu and Georgia and McGee & Co.—just note that exact product names and pricing will vary from retailer to retailer. As someone who is all about efficiency, I love that Loloi rugs often ship out within just a couple of days and are easily returnable.

They have a vintage look without the hassle

The thing I appreciate the most about these rugs? Loloi rugs are the easiest way to get a weathered, vintage-inspired look without the hassle and cost of tracking down an antique rug. I’ve shopped for actual vintage rugs in the past, and they often come with lots of wear and tear, damaged edges, weird smells or stains—not to mention a sky-high price tag. But with Loloi, you can get a brand-new rug that has the same rich colors, classic patterns, and distressed look of an authentic vintage version.

So what are you waiting for? Loloi rugs are on-trend, affordable, durable, and a designer fave—and we all know it’s not often you can check off all those boxes at once! Keep scrolling for some of our favorite Loloi rugs that’ll work in any room:

The Acorns App Helps Me Save $100+ Every Month—Here’s How

Published

The Acorns App Helps Me Save $100+ Every Month—Here's How

As a 25-year-old girlie who has A) moved states every year since college and B) works a job that is a total dream in every aspect except for salary, balancing how to save money versus spend money has felt downright impossible the past three years. I’ve hustled for promotions with salary increases (and succeeded) all in the effort to make just a tiny bit more money to stash away in my savings account. The problem, however, hasn’t necessarily been about how little or how much money I earn. My problem has historically been finding a tool that takes the guesswork out of saving, whether that be for emergencies or big life events like friends’ weddings.

In the past, I spent a long time just… not saving for them. Adulting is hard enough so far, and quite honestly, sometimes I’m so strapped for cash that the idea of saving any of it for big events is unrealistic. Once I discovered the Acorns app, though, my mindset changed, and so did my savings account. This app helps me save a stash of cash with zero thought or effort required—over $100 a month—and I hardly even notice the changes in my account. Naturally, I’m obsessed with it and need to share how it has singlehandedly changed how I save for the future.

What is the Acorns app?

Acorns is a finance app that allows you to save spare change via round-ups. The app links your checking account and/or credit cards and, you guessed it, rounds up the spare change on purchases, such as saving $0.75 from a $5.25 coffee. Round-ups are customizable, and you can choose to save double, triple, or 10x more of the spare change amount. This means if you select round-ups to be double the spare change, Acorns pulls $1.50 from that coffee, making your purchases work smarter, not harder.

In addition to this, you can make weekly contributions, such as saving $5 every Monday or $20 every payday. These contributions pull automatically from your checking account on a schedule that you set, which helps to add to your savings quickly.

An even larger benefit of this app is the ability to invest your round-ups in stock and bond ETFs. While I didn’t start doing this until recently, and I primarily use the app just for the round-up savings feature, this is one of the easiest ways I’ve seen to dip your toe in investing. Acorns holds your hand the whole way—you can choose to customize your investments with their suggestions or have the app select the exact stock and bond ETFs to invest your money in.

Graphics by: Aryana Johnson

Whether you choose to just use the round-up feature like I did for a long time or take it an extra mile with weekly contributions or investments, the longer you save with Acorns, the greater the opportunity for your money to multiply.

What I love about the Acorns app

It’s easy to setup

Setting up the Acorns app is simpler than setting up a bank account. Simply enter your details as you would for any other app: email address, phone number, and date of birth. Next, it asks you to link as many checking accounts as you wish. I connected all of mine! Once at least one checking account is linked, you can customize the Acorns app by turning on round-ups and selecting a weekly contribution amount (mine is $5 every Monday). From there, you can turn on investing mode or leave it as is to round up in the background.

I don’t notice small withdrawals

When I say the app helps me save an extra $100 every month without even trying, I mean it. The round-ups are so unnoticeable. Acorns tracks your purchases via your accounts, and once you’ve made enough purchases for the spare change to hit $5, it deposits it out of your checking account into your Acorn account. This way, the app isn’t taking pennies out of your checking account every. single. time. you purchase something.

“I’m saving at least $100 per month, but since it is completely automated and saved in small increments, it doesn’t feel unrealistic with my tight budget.”

Because it’s only around $5-$20 being withdrawn from my checking account and deposited into Acorns, it feels like way less of a blow than depositing $100 into my savings account once a month. I’m saving at least $100 per month, but since it is completely automated and saved in small increments, it doesn’t feel unrealistic with my tight budget. As it compounds over time, it turns into a decent stash of cash to put toward random events that have in the past put me in credit card debt. Plus, every time I buy myself a little treat, I feel a little bit better knowing Acorns is saving the spare change from that purchase.

Contributions add up quickly

One of the best feelings is forgetting I have the app and then jumping for joy the moment I remember it exists and seeing what has added up. In the past 30 days, I have saved $173.58. As someone who only saves via round-ups and one weekly contribution of $5, I’m proud of the money I’m able to save each month. Below is a breakdown of my exact Acorns contributions and a timeline to show exactly how I’ve saved $100+ in the past 30 days.

  • Round-up settings: automatic, 2x spare change
  • Weekly contribution: $5 every Monday
  • Account Balance as of August 1, 2024: $0
  • Account Balance as of September 16, 2024: $173.58

You can withdraw your money at any time

One of my biggest concerns before signing up for Acorns was knowing how often I’d be able to withdraw my money. Do I have to contribute money for a set number of months before accessing my cash? Or would I be hit with a fee for withdrawing too early or too often? Luckily, the app lets you withdraw whenever you want. This is an extremely important feature for anyone using Acorns for their emergency savings or, if you’re like me, anyone who might want to pull extra cash to pay expensive bills.

“One of the best feelings is forgetting I have the app and then jumping for joy the moment I remember it exists and seeing what has added up. In the past 30 days, I have saved $173.58.”

It makes saving money feel possible

Between high living costs and only being four years into my career, saving each month is extremely difficult. The way my app is set up to save for me right now is extremely minimal! With that said, while saving money is difficult for me, it doesn’t feel so hopeless anymore. I didn’t think saving any amount of money was possible for me, so I feel at peace and extremely excited knowing I’ve been able to save an extra $100 each month. I’m attending at least five weddings next summer and know exactly how I’m paying to travel to them thanks to Acorns.

You can be as aggressive as you want to be

When I want to be more aggressive with my savings, I will start multiplying round-ups and making a larger weekly contribution. For example, I might increase my weekly contributions to $10 per week instead of $5 to save double what I am saving now. I could also choose to double my spare change round-up. And if I’m ever in a pinch? I’ll scale it back. This is one of the greatest things about Acorns. It is totally customizable!

It can be used as a short-term and long-term savings solution

I love using Acorns as a short- or long-term savings solution. By “short-term,” I mean events like friends’ weddings and bachelorette trips, moving, pet costs, or holiday gift-giving season. Before Acorns, I had a really difficult time setting money aside on my own for these events that I knew were coming up. When they came along, I would throw big purchases on a credit card and feel uneasy about how I was going to pay it off. With Acorns, however, I don’t have that panic anymore. As my restaurant dates and errand runs add up throughout the month, the spare change from those outings, plus my weekly contributions, support my savings goals. And in the long term, I can choose to let my account keep growing without withdrawing or investing it for potential gains within the app.

“As my restaurant dates and errand runs add up throughout the month, the spare change from those outings, plus my weekly contributions, support my savings goals.”

Is the Acorns app worth it?

At just $3 per month, Acorns is more than worth it. It has helped me take control of my finances. When I used to think about saving $100 from my paycheck every month, something else always took precedence, like car repairs or someone’s birthday. I was holding myself back from being able to save valuable money, not because I wasn’t making enough money, but because I didn’t have the right tools.

As someone who lives paycheck to paycheck, I know how impossible saving money can feel. Take it from me: Acorns makes saving money feel realistic even to those who don’t feel like they have any excess spare change to begin with. I like that Acorns is helping me become more knowledgeable and comfortable with investing, too, but that’s not the reason I signed up. I wanted a tool to simplify and automate the way I save money, and Acorns became my solution. Now, I keep a flat $50 in my checking account just so Acorns can pull round-up change and my weekly contribution.

Do yourself a favor and sign up for the app, turn on roundups, and forget about the app. Once you remember you have an Acorns account in about a month, you’ll have money waiting for you as a sweet reward.

The Best Suede Boots of 2024

The Best Suede Boots of 2024

Every year, like clockwork, as the leaves begin to change colors, black leather booties return from their place in storage. It’s as if the Sanderson Sisters themselves cast an eternal spell on women everywhere: “On the first day of fall, when the temps are juuuuuust right, a black boot will summon us by the end of the night.” While it might be controversial, I believe it’s time to break the enchantment. This fall is signaling for us to take a break from our ole’ black leather boots and step into something a bit more 2024 coded: a suede pair, that is.

Although I think that no fall wardrobe is complete without a pair of black boots, there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. Our black booties will always have a spot in our hearts—at this point, many of us have been in a relationship with ours for the better half of a decade—but frankly, this season’s suede pairs feel like a well-deserved upgrade.

Ready for a swap? From knee-high boots to Western-inspired pairs that will be a seamless swap for your go-to black booties, here are this season’s must-have suede boots.

Suede Knee-High Boots

I think everyone, and I mean everyone, could benefit from owning a pair of knee-high boots. A quality pair of knee-highs extends the shelf life of some of my favorite summer staples: bermuda shorts, mini skirts—the list goes on. Knee-high boots have been my fall hero piece for years, helping me to create my most-complimented looks to date. My favorite way to style them at the moment? With a silky mini skirt, a textured crewneck sweater, and a delicious suede coat.

Suede Ankle Boots

Source: @dolcevita

Please, I’m begging you: proceed with caution here. Not all ankle boots were created equal. One wrong step (literally), and you’re at risk for a repeat of 2012. One dead giveaway? Apologies in advance: noticeable side elastics. (I know, I said I was sorry). Instead, you’ll want to opt for a pair with a zipper closure, preferably with a kitten heel rather than a block heel. When worn with denim or trousers, the slimmer profile will help to create a more sophisticated, elongated silhouette.

Slouchy Suede Boots

This month, as fashion’s global it-girls gathered for Paris Fashion Week (sadly, no Emily Cooper sightings), it became apparent that slouchy boots had returned from their years-long hiatus. Prevailing among them? Varying shades of brown suede, as seen on industry insiders styled with tailored midi skirts and oversized blazers.

Suede Cowboy Boots

These days, it seems like everything’s coming up Western—or at the very least, Western-adjacent. From bell-bottoms to fringe jackets, the Cowboy Carter effect is alive and well for fall 2024. While you could go the traditional cowboy boot route, there are also more subtle options, like the scalloped pair pictured above.

How to Take Care of Suede

In the past, we may have considered suede’s required level of care a deterrent; however, today’s assortment of suede protectants make caring for the sensitive material easier than ever. In order to protect against the elements, before breaking out your suede boots, treat them with a suede protectant spray. You can also use a suede brush to treat the wear and tear that inevitably comes with footwear.

Trader Joe’s Fall Snacks, Ranked From Worst to Best

Trader Joe's Fall Snacks, Ranked From Worst to Best

According to Mother Nature, fall officially began on September 22. Not to burst her bubble, but we all know there’s only one true indicator of the season’s arrival: the moment Trader Joe’s stocks their shelves with pumpkin, maple, and apple-flavored everything. From then on, it’s goodbye summer, and hello fall. But as much as I love celebrating the return of Trader Joe’s fall items, let me tell you: not all pumpkin is created equal.

It can be difficult to parse through the vast sea of seasonal products and find what’s actually worth tossing in your cart. So, this year, I took on the challenge for you. I taste-tested 15 different Trader Joe’s fall snacks and ranked them from worst to best. Whether you need a last-minute appetizer for a party or want to find your next favorite sweet treat, here’s how they all stacked up.

15. Mini Spicy Pumpkin Samosas

trader joe's fall
Source: Lauren Blue

Sadly, something has to take last place, and in this ranking, it was these pumpkin samosas. While I appreciated the distinct pumpkin taste, it still didn’t quite hit the mark. The combination of flavors just didn’t work for me. If they were set out as an appetizer at a friend’s house, I wouldn’t turn them down—but I wouldn’t repurchase them. Some of my fellow testers took it one step further and said they wouldn’t touch them at all.

14. Chocolate Mousse Pumpkins

trader joe's fall
Source: Lauren Blue

These chocolate mousse cakes are absolutely adorable, but the taste didn’t live up to the presentation. I found them overly sweet and wished for more contrast between the cake and mousse layers. Plus, they were messier to eat than I expected, which kind of went against the convenience of the small individual cakes. That said, I’d still consider buying them again just for how cute they’d look on a dessert platter.

13. Pumpkin Flavored Joe-Joe’s

trader joe's fall
Source: Lauren Blue

Joe-Joe’s are a Trader Joe’s staple, so of course, there’s a seasonal pumpkin version. I love their winter peppermint Joe-Joe’s and was excited to try these, but they unfortunately fell flat. The pumpkin flavor was weak, and an artificial sweetness completely overpowered the cookie. I’d stick to the classic Joe-Joe’s and skip this one.

12. Pumpkin Blondie Brownies

trader joe's fall
Source: Lauren Blue

Hot take: I’ll always pick a blondie over a brownie. Since I’m biased toward blondies, I had high expectations for these pumpkin blondies and thought they would definitely be at the very top of the ranking. However, the texture really wasn’t that of a blondie or brownie at all. It was so moist that it was far closer to a slice of cake, which was a tad misleading, given the name. While they weren’t bad, they didn’t live up to their name and were outshined by other Trader Joe’s fall baked goods.

11. Butternut Squash Mac & Cheese Bites

trader joe's fall
Source: Lauren Blue

The Trader Joe’s butternut squash mac and cheese is a beloved fall favorite. I’m talking, “if you see it, grab three because it sells out all the time” level of fan-favorite. So, I was thrilled to see a breaded, bite-sized version, but, unfortunately, the flavor didn’t quite translate. The squash wasn’t as prominent as I’d hoped, and the breading overwhelmed the mac and cheese instead of enhancing it. I’d eat them again, but they wouldn’t be my first choice for an appetizer.

10. Petite Pumpkin Spice Cookies

trader joe's fall
Source: Lauren Blue

These tiny pumpkin spice cookies are reminiscent of those nostalgic circus animal cookies from my childhood and were a solid treat. The pumpkin flavor was stronger than in other pumpkin products, and my taste-testers and I all agreed they were the superior pumpkin cookie compared to the Joe-Joe’s. I wouldn’t rank them as my all-time favorite, but I’d get them again.

9. Pumpkin Tortilla Chips

trader joe's fall
Source: Lauren Blue

I’ll be honest: When I grabbed these pumpkin chips, I 100% expected them to be in the absolute last place. The description seemed to be an odd mix of salty and sweet that I didn’t think would complement each other, but they were surprisingly good. The cinnamon and nutmeg added a nice fall touch without turning them into a dessert chip. They’re not overly flavorful but have just enough fall flair to feel special.

8. Maple & Sea Salt Kettle Popcorn

trader joe's fall
Source: Lauren Blue

I’m not the biggest fan of kettle corn, but this maple version won me over. The sweet and salty balance was fantastic, and I loved the strong maple flavor. If it had just been me trying the items, it would have ended up higher, but some members of my taste-testing group didn’t love how intense the maple was.

7. Pumpkin Loaf

trader joe's fall
Source: Lauren Blue

You can’t have a fall lineup without a pumpkin loaf. The flavor of this one was great, with a balanced sweetness and spiciness, but it was drier than I’d like, especially when trying it right after the pumpkin blondies. However, it’s still worth a try this season and would be great with a cup of coffee in the morning.

6. Pumpkin Spice Mini Sheet Cake

trader joe's fall
Source: Lauren Blue

This mini sheet cake was the star of the pumpkin desserts. It was the “just right” after the loaf was too dry and the blondies were too moist. Plus, it tasted as if you made it from scratch. It’s a perfect grab-and-go item for any get-together—just pop it on a tray, and it can pass as homemade.

5. Fall Harvest Salsa

trader joe's fall
Source: Lauren Blue

This salsa was a wild card. With ingredients like apple and pumpkin, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Would it taste like pumpkin spice? Or some sort of apple cider? Thankfully, while it does include apple and pumpkin, it’s more like a slightly sweet and spicy version of a traditional salsa than a bizarre fall concoction. Pair it with the Trader Joe’s pumpkin chips or the fall leaf-shaped tortilla chips for a festive spread.

4. Pumpkin Cranberry Crisps

trader joe's fall
Source: Lauren Blue

TBH, I didn’t expect these pumpkin cranberry crisps to leave much of an impression (I mean, let’s be real, a cracker seems kind of boring), but I was pleasantly surprised by how much everyone liked them. The cranberry’s subtle sweetness and the pumpkin’s spiced touch make them a perfect addition to a fall charcuterie board. I recommend pairing them with sharper cheese to balance the sweetness.

3. Carmelized Onion Goat’s Milk Cheese

trader joe's fall
Source: Lauren Blue

Speaking of cheese boards, this caramelized onion goat cheese is a must-have for yours this season. The sweet caramelized onion pairs beautifully with the tangy goat cheese. We tried it with the pumpkin cranberry crisps, and since both are sweeter, it wasn’t the best pairing—but you could serve both on the same cheese board and pair them with saltier options for a more balanced spread.

2. Pumpkin Spiced Teeny Tiny Pretzels

trader joe's fall
Source: Lauren Blue

These pretzels were unassuming but ended up being a huge hit. The pumpkin spice blends perfectly with the salty pretzel, and the mini size somehow makes them even better. They’re dangerously snackable, and I could easily finish a bag in one sitting—and probably will.

1. Savory Squash Pastry Bites

trader joe's fall
Source: Lauren Blue

If you love the caramelized onion and feta pastry bites from Trader Joe’s, these squash bites—found in the freezer aisle—will be your new fall favorite. They require minimal effort and have a perfect nutty, sweet flavor that screams fall. They also get bonus points for a fantastic presentation. I’ll be stocking up on these as long as they’re on the shelves, and they might just be my new go-to girl dinner.

A Recap of Kamala Harris's 'Call Her Daddy' Interview

If you had told me in 2020 that Alex Cooper was interviewing Vice President Kamala Harris on Call Her Daddy, I would have looked at you like you had two heads. But we’re living in a brave new world, and from my perspective, there’s no one I would rather hear talking about the future of women’s reproductive rights in the U.S. for 45 minutes than the pioneer of the gluck gluck 3000. This Sunday, Alex Cooper hosted 2024 presidential candidate Kamala Harris on Call Her Daddy to discuss the upcoming election, and it’s sent the Daddy Gang into a tizzy.

While some are criticizing Alex Cooper, who rarely covers politics on her sex-and-dating-focused podcast, for having Harris on her show, the interview yielded some pretty important takeaways. From revealing how Vice President Harris views the complex issue of women’s reproductive health to showing exactly why women’s media is always political, here are five takeaways from Alex Cooper’s interview with Kamala Harris.

1. Women’s reproductive rights are a crucial issue in the 2024 election.

At this point in election season, you’ve probably seen a lot of interviews with both candidates circulating on social media. However, it’s rare for an interviewer to focus on one single issue for their entire allotted time with a candidate. On Call Her Daddy, Alex Cooper broke that mold. Instead of asking Vice President Harris about her economic plans, her foreign policy positions, or her stance on climate change, Cooper centered her entire podcast episode on women’s reproductive health and autonomy. Aside from a brief conversation with Harris about her childhood, Cooper used Call Her Daddy as a platform for digging deep into Harris’s plans for protecting American women during her potential presidency.

Since Roe V. Wade was overturned in 2022 as a result of Donald Trump’s Supreme Court appointments, the gender gap has been widening. According to the New York Times, while race and class are still bigger factors in elections, gender is becoming an increasingly important indicator of how any given citizen will vote—which means that issues related to gender are more important than ever. By using her 45 minutes with the Vice President to solely discuss women’s autonomy, Cooper qualitatively showed what the numbers have indicated: reproductive rights are the most important issue in the 2024 election.

2. Kamala Harris understands that reproductive rights are not just about abortion.

When most news outlets discuss women’s reproductive rights in America, there is a huge focus on abortion. In particular, since Roe V. Wade was overturned, much of the discourse surrounding women’s reproductive health has been about whether or not a woman has access to abortion in her state. However, as women, we know that abortion, while important, is not the full story. For instance, Cooper asked Harris about her time as a prosecutor with a focus on sexual assault cases. When Cooper pointed out that one in three women has experienced some kind of sexual abuse in their lifetime, Harris responded, “Alex, thank you for talking about it, because part of the issue is that people don’t talk about it. And the more that we let anything exist in the shadows, the more likely it is that people are suffering silently.”

“Anyone who is shocked, confused, or upset that Alex Cooper hosted a presidential candidate who cares deeply about women’s reproductive rights on Call Her Daddy has not been listening closely enough.”

Throughout her interview on Call Her Daddy, Harris discussed issues of sexual assault, domestic violence, IVF and fertility treatment access, breast cancer screenings and pap smears, access to contraception, and chosen family. All of these issues fit under the umbrella of women’s reproductive rights—abortion is just one slice of the pie. On Call Her Daddy, Harris proved that she knows that women need the right to choose in more ways than one.

3. Kamala Harris knows that female economic empowerment is a part of women’s health.

Years ago, calling yourself “socially liberal but fiscally conservative” was a popular refrain. But in today’s super-divided political system, that won’t fly—and Kamala Harris knows it. These days, doing as much as possible to economically empower historically oppressed communities (including women) is essential to politics. In her interview on Call Her Daddy, Harris said, “One of the ways that we know we can uplift women to have choices is uplift the ability of women to have economic health and well-being.” Regardless of your religious beliefs or previous stances on women’s reproductive rights, you know this is true. The more financially empowered we are as women, the greater autonomy we have. Having a presidential candidate who recognizes that is incredibly refreshing.

4. Having a female presidential candidate is a huge deal—just not the way it was eight years ago.

Throughout her campaign, Kamala Harris has notably not played any identity “cards.” She has de-emphasized her identity as a woman of color in order to put greater emphasis on the identity of her opponent as a wealthy, white, male felon. This is in stark contrast to the first woman to receive a nomination for President of the United States, Hillary Clinton, eight years ago in 2016. Where Clinton wore suffragette white and talked of “breaking glass ceilings,” Harris has largely avoided topics related to her identity in interviews. In fact, in spite of the focus on women’s rights, she hardly discussed her own identity as a woman on Call Her Daddy.

Appearing on Call Her Daddy, a podcast that targets women with a listener base that is primarily female, is likely the biggest “gender card” Harris will play throughout her entire campaign. It shows just how much times have changed: Although it’s exciting to have another woman running for president, that’s not the only thing that’s exciting about Kamala Harris’s candidacy.

5. Just because Alex Cooper doesn’t usually cover politics doesn’t mean Call Her Daddy is apolitical.

Since posting her interview with Harris on Sunday, Alex Cooper has received massive backlash from fans and listeners who perceived Call Her Daddy as an apolitical podcast. However, just because Call Her Daddy is not about politics does not mean it is without political leanings. The messages that Alex Cooper has been sharing on Call Her Daddy for years—that women deserve to be sexually satisfied, that the modern dating scene is disempowering to women, and that women have the right to take control of their own narratives in the media—are inherently political messages.

Women’s media, especially women’s media that covers sex and relationships, is always inherently political. Cooper has been empowering her listeners to take control of their own sex lives for years, and there’s no reason why she would, or should, stop at the level of politics. Anyone who is shocked, confused, or upset that Alex Cooper hosted a presidential candidate who cares deeply about women’s reproductive rights on Call Her Daddy has not been listening closely enough.
