Guilherme’s West Ham Career Surely Over After Nuno Decision
Nuno Espirito Santo has left the writing on the wall for one West Ham star.
The Hammers were facing Manchester United at Old Trafford on Thursday night in a Premier League contest when the Portuguese boss attracted attention for the squad that he picked in the 1-1 draw.
While his starting XI was largely as expected, it was his youthful substitutes’ bench which attracted fans’ attention on social media — particularly given the absence of several high-profile players.
With the January transfer window just around the corner, Nuno’s team selection may hint that one star’s days at the club are numbered with a potential New Year exit on the cards.
Luis Guilherme Set For The Exit Door
One notable absentee from West Ham’s squad to face Man United was Luis Guilherme. Described as an ‘exciting’ player, the Brazilian has endured a torrid time since completing his move to East London.
Signing from Palmeiras in the summer of 2024, the winger arrived as one of Brazil’s most exciting young talents. Unfortunately for him, his time at West Ham just hasn’t worked out. His first season at the London Stadium saw him make just 13 appearances, with only one coming in the starting lineup. This term hasn’t been any better with just one start and five appearances to his name.
Left out of Nuno’s matchday squad at Old Trafford in favour of a number of the club’s academy prospects, it was a telling statement regarding his future at the club.
West Ham Under Pressure To Sell
While Guilherme is a hugely talented player and someone who is only going to get better at the age of 19, it feels like his time with West Ham is coming to an end. An incredible prospect, it just hasn’t happened for him at the club and the last thing he needs is to waste his time at a club where he’s not playing.
From West Ham’s point of view, they can’t sit around and wait for a signing to get up to speed. Funds are limited in East London and given the frailties of Nuno’s squad in certain areas, the focus has to be on making new signings to strengthen. Doing so won’t be easy given their current financial situation, but if they can cash in on Guilherme and others, it could give them money to play with.
Sitting in the relegation zone, West Ham need to be ruthless if they’re to preserve their Premier League status and that means cutting players who aren’t in Nuno’s plans and replacing them with people who can make an immediate impact.
