Sam Allardyce shocked by Man Utd’s failure to land top transfer target and adds ‘it was a ‘big, big miss’

The Red Devils went on to endure their worst ever Premier League start that also saw them conceding 12 goals in their first 10 matches in the English top flight.

Allardyce, 70, claims the Manchester giants missed out “big” by not pushing harder for the highly-rated centre-back.

The ex-England manager believes Man Utd could have sealed a “bargain buy” considering the Merseysiders’ financial struggles.

Allardyce told the Football Accumulators ‘No Tippy Tappy Football’ podcast: “It was a big surprise that nobody spent the money on him in the summer, a left-footed centre-half, particularly at Manchester United.

“You’d have thought that whoever wanted a centre-half who’s proven himself to be able to play in the Premier League, and his capabilities are getting even better.

“It was a big, big miss for a lot of those big clubs. With Everton’s financial problems, somebody thought they could nick him at a bargain buy.”

Branthwaite recently returned to action for Everton after overcoming a groin injury.

Wales boss Bellamy backs Jordan James' 'smart move' to Rennes

“I’ve had little conversations with JJ,” said Bellamy, who has included James in his squad for upcoming Nations League matches against Turkey and Iceland.

“It’s always difficult for a kid or anyone who moves to a different country. It was the same with myself (in Belgium) the first couple of months.

“You’re picking up the language, but it’s just a different way of doing things, even simple things like the food.

“JJ is in that period where he’s still a young kid. But he’s at a really good football club that develop young players and progress them and I see it as a smart move.”

Hat-trick for Vinicius Jr but Kylian Mbappe fails to score- The Week

Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski of Barcelona and Espanyol’s Javi Puado were tied for having the most hat tricks in La Liga this season. All three of them had one hat trick each. Vinicius Junior had 5 goals and 4 assists in 11 appearances so far. Then came Saturday’s Real Madrid vs Osasuna clash.

Despite suffering a triple injury blow, Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid brushed Osasuna aside at the Santiago Bernabeu with a 4-0 win. Vinicius Jr was once again their man-man, managing a hat trick — his first of the season. Jude Bellingham also made it to the score sheet in the match that witnessed Real pressing academy product Raul Asencio into service early on.

Vinicus Jr is now the second most successful attacker in La Liga behind Lewandowski with eight goals. Barca’s Polish striker, who is in sublime touch, has 14.

Vinicus Jr’s first hattrick since 2022: As it happened

Vini’s goals against Osasuna came in the 34, 61 and 69th minute of the game. Bellingham entered the score sheet at the 42nd minute.

For his first goal, the Brazilian drove diagonally towards the penalty spot from the left after being served by Bellingham. He kept his cool to find a spectacular finish in the near post, giving the goalkeeper no chance.

His second was assisted by Real custodian Andriy Lunin

who quickly supplied the winger with the ball from a corner kick. A quick Vinicius tapped home his second, giving no chance to defender Jesus Areso and keeper Sergio Herrera.

Eight minutes later, first-half substitute Brahim Diaz helped his teammate complete the hat trick by feeding him the ball square. Vini had the goalkeeper and a defender on the goal line to beat but nothing was stopping him from getting his first hat trick since May 2022!
