The actor shared a comment about his castmate’s new job
Alan Halsall has responded to his Coronation Street co-star’s new role as it was confirmed they’d be leaving the cobbles behind.
For the past few years, the actor, famed for playing Tyrone Dobbs in the ITV soap, has been sharing the screen with Claire Sweeney. She joined the long-running show back in 2023 as his long-lost mum, Cassie Plummer, with the news rocking the mechanic having believed Jackie Dobbs was his real mother.
Former drug user Cassie has since been seen making a home for herself in Weatherfield alongside her family, as well as her new love interest Steve McDonald. However, it’s been confirmed that Claire will be waving goodbye to the famous cobbles after three years this summer.

Her exit will come as she prepares to take on the role of Miss Hannigan in the upcoming tour of Annie. She will be taking over the role in July from Strictly Come Dancing star La Voix, who will be making her debut when the new tour gets underway in Wimbledon on May 23.
A spokesperson for Coronation Street said as the news was announced on Thursday (January 29): “We wish Claire every success playing Miss Hannigan and congratulate her on being offered a role she has long wanted to play.”
They went on to confirm: “Cassie will be on the cobbles until the summer during which time she will continue to make her presence felt in Weatherfield leading up to a great exit storyline.”
While Claire hasn’t commented directly on her Corrie exit, she has been seen sharing posts relating to her upcoming stint in Annie. One was from the musical’s official page, featured a brilliant video of Claire channelling the iconic character. “Someone pinch us please… @Claire.Sweeney is Miss Hannigan!” the Instagram post confirmed.
“Don’t miss Claire as our Mother of the Year from 7th July 2026! Tickets are ON SALE now, see ya on Easy Street. #Annie #MissHannigan #ClaireSweeney.” Alan was among those to respond to the post, as he wrote: “Mummmm…???” in the comments section alongside a string of emojis – a heart, a shocked face and a laughing crying face.
