It was Musicals Week in the Strictly ballroom on Saturday night, which saw the celebs and their partners dance to songs from the likes of The Greatest Showman, Phantom of the Opera, and Chicago.

Opening the show on Saturday (December 6), the remaining contestants took to the floor together for a dance relay choreographed by Matt Flint, which started and finished with all five couples dancing together.

But Strictly Come Dancing fans took to social media during the episode to ask “what is the point” of the relay dance.

Over on X, formerly Twitter, @Thomasstevens00 wrote: “Like why do a relay without giving any bonus points?!”, and @jlb26_ added: “That random opening number was the relay challenge???? it was cute but since it’s not scored what was the point other than just being an extravagant opening number ?? Not sure i understand the point but sure let’s go with it.”

@RyanSoapKing25 added: “What is the point of a #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing Musicals relay if nobody is being scored?”

On the other hand however, some fans loved the relay as @heartofsmine wrote on X: “THIS OPENING RELAY IS SO GOOD IM OBSESSED AHH”, and @DebbieBlackma14 added: “That was great fun. They all did the relay well.”

Judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke returned for the 11th week of Strictly Come Dancing 2025 to offer their professional critique and all-important scores while Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman appeared again as hosts.

During Musicals Week, former Love Island star Amber Davies and Nikita Kuzman who performed The Charleston to Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat from Guys and Dolls. EastEnders star Balvinder Sopal and her professional dance partner Julian Caillon received their highest score yet of 36 after performing the Viennese Waltz to Never Enough from The Greatest Showman.

At the end of Saturday night’s live show, Amber Davies takes top billing on the quarter-final scoreboard with her perfect 40, Lewis Cope, Balvinder Sopal and George Clarke are all tied in second spot, and down the bottom is Karen Carney, just one point behind that cluster.

Fans will have to wait until Sunday night to find out who will be performing in the dance-off to fight to stay until the semi-final next week after an amazing set of performances from all five couples.
