A cordon is in place with emergency services at the scene

A blaze has ripped through a house in Bury tonight (Saturday). A cordon is in place with one person having been taken to hospital following the major fire.

Emergency services rushed to Abbey Drive, on the Seddons Farm estate off Ainsworth Road to the west of the town centre, after the alarm was raised shortly before 7:30pm.

The Manchester Evening News understands one person had escaped the building before firefighters arrived at the scene. They were taken to hospital by paramedics. No update has yet been given on their condition.

Three fire engines attended the scene. Crews have spent the evening tackling the fire at the semi-detatched property.

The fire has now been extinguished but crews remain at the scene with the area around the house cordoned off.

Pictures from the scene show the building has suffered extensive fire damage.

Gas experts are among those who have been seen inside the cordon. The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.

Crews remain at the scene tonight.
