Mo Salah Accuses Arne Slot of Throwing Him ‘Under the Bus’

Mohamed Salah has accused Liverpool of throwing him under the bus in a shocking assessment of Arne Slot’s decision to drop him for three consecutive games. The Egyptian forward was an unused substitute in a 3-3 draw away to Leeds United on Saturday evening.

Slot admitted it was a difficult decision to start Salah on the bench, speaking ahead of the Leeds game. But the Dutch coach resisted using last season’s Premier League Golden Boot winner throughout at Elland Road.

Salah had remained silent about the situation until after the draw tonight, when he let loose about his frustrations amid a bit-part role for a club he’s “done so much for.” He penned a new two-year deal earlier this year to end months of speculation over a possible summer exit, but his reduced game time has fuelled talk of a separation next year.

Salah ‘Very Disappointed’ With Liverpool and Slot

Liverpool have endured a nightmare season thus far and the Leeds draw was the latest setback for the Reds who were two-nil ahead in the second half. Their poor form has coincided with Salah’s struggles with the 33-year-old unable to replicate his sensational performances which earned him the 2025 PFA Player of the Year award.

Salah has opened up about his lack of game time in an explosive interview (via Sam McGuire):

“I can’t believe it, I’m very disappointed. I’ve done so much for this club, everyone can see that over the years, especially last season. To be on the bench, I don’t know why. I feel like the club is throwing me under the bus. That’s how I feel.”

Salah was a mainstay in Slot’s team last season that claimed the Premier League title, bagging 29 goals and 18 assists in 38 games. He played in every single game of the league campaign but has been left on the bench twice already in 13 games this term.

Salah Appeared To Wave Goodbye

Salah’s interview isn’t the only talking point regarding the Egyptian’s response to being left on the bench by Slot for the Leeds draw. A fan recorded a video of the attacker waving to the visiting supporters at Elland Road and tapping the club badge on his coat.

This came before his comments and may well have been an indication that he is headed for a departure much sooner than the June 2027 expiration date on his new contract. He has two more matches before heading off to the African Cup of Nations with Egypt on December 15 and the first comes against Inter Milan at the San Siro on Wednesday (December 9).

There will be much talk about his future in light of this and Slot’s stance will no doubt be on everybody’s mind. The Dutch coach’s relationship with his star forward now looks more strained than ever in a nightmare period for the club.

A move to the Saudi Pro League seems the most likely destination if he were to leave Anfield in the coming transfer windows. Recent reports suggest that Saudi chiefs are ready to swoop for the Middle Eastern superstar and have funds ready for a deal next summer.
