Worker dies at AV Dawson site in Middlesbrough

Emergency services were called to AV Dawson, at Riverside Park Industrial Estate in Middlesbrough, on Monday (December 8) following an incident.

AV Dawson, the owner and operator of the Port of Middlesbrough, has confirmed that the incident has tragically resulted in the death of one of its colleagues.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said it is aware of the situation and is working with Cleveland Police to establish what happened.

A HSE spokesperson said: “We are aware of the incident and working with the police to establish what happened”

An AV Dawson spokesperson said: “We can confirm that an incident occurred at AV Dawson on Monday 8 December 2025, which has tragically resulted in the death of one of our colleagues.

“First and foremost, our thoughts are with the individual’s family and friends, and with all our colleagues at this incredibly difficult time.

“Our health and safety team are on site and cooperating fully with the emergency services and the Health and Safety Executive as they investigate the incident.

“As this is an ongoing situation, we are unable to provide further details at this stage.”
