World Grand Prix darts semi-finalist mocked by Luke Humphries reveals offer to star on hit reality show

WORLD Grand Prix semi-finalist Dimitri Van Den Bergh has revealed he was offered the opportunity to appear on The Masked Singer in his homeland.

The Belgium No1 was beaten 5-2 by fellow countryman Mike De Decker on Saturday night at Mattioli Arena, Leicester.

The pair have been sharing an Airbnb this week, and the defeated Van Den Bergh was asked if he would make a good housemate in the Big Brother house in an interview with Boyle Sports.

Van Den Bergh, who was mocked by Luke Humphries earlier this year, revealed: “Big Brother, that’s a step too far.

“You’ve got basically no privacy anymore, they’ve got 24 hours livestreams so everyone is literally being watched. That’s a bit extraordinary, taking it over the top.

“Funnily enough, in Belgium I’ve been asked already to do a few shows, including The Masked Singer.

“I don’t know if I would be really good at it but I definitely would have a lot of fun.

“All of these people, the way they’re dressed, their costumes, a bit of singing – I don’t even know if I’m good at, but it would be fun.”

Van Den Bergh went on to say fans believed he had already appeared on the show in disguise.

He continued: “Last year – there is something called a mushroom in English – it’s different in Belgium, it’s champignon, that’s what they call it. It almost sounds like champion. And they were making this image as if it was me.

“So many people were asking if I was in it, if I was doing it and I just tagged along. I really was making people believe I was in the suit.

Luke Humphries fumes ‘I just can’t be bothered’ as he warns rowdy crowd ‘leave it at home’ after World Grand Prix

“The biggest reason I’m not in these shows is because I’m a professional darts player and the Tour is just very busy when they do all the episodes at this time when we’ve got all the Majors. So it never plans out right.”

Back in July, world number one Humphries defeated The Dream Maker at The World Matchplay in Blackpool.

On his way to victory he managed to have a bit of fun as he teased his opponent.

With the match in the balance at 11-10 in Humphries’ favour, Van den Bergh produced a brilliant 180 to leave just 52 to finish.

The Belgian celebrated his 180 by shrugging his shoulders boastfully, apparently confident he was about to get back level.

Up stepped Humphries knowing a failure to check out 106 would likely see Van den Bergh win the leg.

His first dart missed its treble 20 target but he remained composed to hit treble 18 before finishing on double 16.

Then came something unexpected from Humphries, who is famous for maintaining a cool and controlled demeanour – something which does not win him favour with fans.

As Humphries went to collect his darts he mimicked Van den Bergh’s shoulder shrugging celebration with a big smile across his face.

Jannik Sinner case: PTPA chief calls for reform of anti-doping system and more financial support for players

Jannik Sinner case: PTPA chief calls for reform of anti-doping system and more financial support for players

The PTPA says it was set up to “support, protect and advance players’ well-being on and off the court”.

It has so far had a fractious relationship with tennis’ established powers and has not been able to get into the room where key decisions are made.

Nassar said he thinks the system is “patently unfair to every player, Jannik included” and highlighted the case of Britain’s Tara Moore.

Moore was Britain’s leading women’s doubles player when she was provisionally banned for testing positive for nandrolone and boldenone in May 2022.

She was cleared by an independent tribunal in December 2023, but 10 months later is still waiting for the ITIA’s appeal against that decision to be heard by Cas.

“I have many reservations about how every single one of those cases is handled,” Nassar continued.

“In Tara, here is a player who won her appeal, and certainly wasn’t the number one player in her sport, but she still missed 18 months.

“She’s still dealing with an appeal and fighting to get her reputation back. There is no winning in that case.”

Wada’s appeal against the Sinner verdict may well be heard more quickly.

An appeal by the former world number one Simona Halep was heard just over four months after it was registered, with the verdict issued by Cas a further month after the hearing.

It was, however, only last Thursday that the panel’s full reasoning was published.

Cas cut Halep’s suspension for testing positive for roxadustat from four years to nine months but concluded that despite steps actively taken by her to ascertain the contents of the supplement, “there was fault on the player’s part”.

Wada will also be hoping to prove fault or negligence on Sinner’s part.

The initial tribunal decided Sinner was inadvertently contaminated with clostebol by his physiotherapist, Giacomo Naldi, who had applied an over-the-counter spray containing the banned substance to treat a cut on his own hand.

‘The replay is not pleasant’ – TNT Sports refuse to show footage as rugby star leaves on crutches after horror injury

'The replay is not pleasant' - TNT Sports refuse to show footage as rugby star leaves on crutches after horror injury

TNT SPORTS refused to show footage as a rugby star was forced to leave the field on crutches after a horror injury.

The incident occurred on Saturday during the Gallagher Premiership rugby clash between Leicester Tigers and Northampton Saints.

It saw new Tigers boss Michael Cheika bag his first home win as the hosts secured a 24-8 victory.

Handre Pollard helped himself to three conversions and a penalty in the rout.

But the result was overshadowed by a horror injury and sin bin.

Leicester flanker Tommy Reffell was given the yellow for his tackle on Northampton’s Sam Graham.

The No8 crashed to the ground awkwardly and was in visible pain as he rolled on the floor.

One of his legs had bent the opposite way when coming down from the challenge.

And Graham could even be heard crying out on the ref’s mic.

TNT Sports then refused to show any replays, with commentator David Flatman saying: “I thought it was a hell of an impact there from Reffell.

“Immediately when you see that, you think it’s a massive shoulder impact on his knee.”

Fellow commentator Nick Mullins added: “Sam Graham is in a lot of pain. The replay is not a pleasant one so we are not going to show you it.”

Tigers star Reffell was then bemused as he was shown a yellow card for a dangerous tackle, with the Welshman claiming it was legal as Graham was stretchered off the pitch.

But ref Anthony Woodthorpe was adamant it was illegal and was heard explaining his decision on the mic, with Graham later appearing on crutches.

He told Reffell and Leicester captain Julian Montoya: “The tackle is illegal because he’s already on his knees. Tommy, you’re the man who made the tackle.

“He’s on his knees when he makes his tackle, so it’s an illegal tackle and a dangerous action, so it’s going to be a yellow card.

“We understand it’s a wrap but he needs to be on his feet to make the tackle.”

TNT pundit Austin Healy backed Reffell though, adding: “I understand it’s foul play if you are on the floor and you make a tackle.

“But he wasn’t already on the floor. He went to the floor to make the tackle, that’s not the same.”

Matt McCarty wins Black Desert Championship for first PGA Tour victory

Matt McCarty wins Black Desert Championship for first PGA Tour victory

American Matt McCarty secured a place at next year’s Masters and PGA Championship by winning his first PGA Tour title at the inaugural Black Desert Championship in Utah.

The 26-year-old left-hander, in his rookie season on the tour, earned a two-year exemption thanks to his three-shot win over Germany’s Stephan Jaeger.

Having clinched his tour spot this year by winning three times on the development Korn Ferry Tour, McCarthy becomes the first player since Jason Gore in 2005 to win on both tours in the season they were promoted.

“It’s been an unbelievable last few months,” said McCarty, who shot a four-under-par 67 to finish on 23 under. “It was a lot of fun [and a] pretty surreal moment.”

Going into the final round, McCarty held a two-stroke lead over Jaeger, Joe Highsmith, Kevin Steelman and Harris English, which had been reduced to one with five holes remaining.

But an eagle two on the par-four 14th effectively secured victory for McCarty, who carded two more birdies and a bogey before celebrating with his caddie and family.

Streelman and fellow American Lucas Glover tied for third on 19 under.

Mike De Decker ignores Sky Sports interview minutes after stunning Luke Humphries to 100-1 World Grand Prix Darts win

The 100-1 outsider stunned No1 slinger Luke Humphries to seal victory in Leicester last night.

De Decker secured a 6-4 win for his first-ever major TV title.

And the Belgian pocketed a cool £120,000 jackpot in the process.

De Decker is now 25th in the darts world rankings, 11 up from his position of 36th before yesterday’s final.

But despite his success, he remains a man of the people.

Immediately after winning the match, De Decker was summoned by Sky Sports for a live on-stage TV interview.

Viewers at home waited with bated breath for the ace’s thoughts on his incredible win against an icon in Humphries.

However, De Decker was not overly concerned about appearing on the box.

And instead, he interacted with fans in the crowd as they threw their phones at him for group selfies.

The TV pundit, who did not appear on screen, said: “Mike if we can grab you just for a second…

“He says he doesn’t like the spotlight but we think he’s getting used to it now.

“A huge occasion, people are throwing their phones up for selfies.”

De Decker also knocked out Gary Anderson, James Wade and Dimitri van den Bergh on his way to victory.

And the Belgian admitted he was “over the moon” with his first major TV title.

He said: “The way Luke has been playing this last year until now has been brilliant,.

“Being the person that beats him this weekend in the final, picking up this trophy, I have no words, I’m so, so, so, so, so, so, so happy.

“I was cool in patches. In the beginning, I was really, really, really nervous, then I calmed down. I went 4-1 up, he came back to 4-4. I started to get nerves again but I did it.

“I lost my card, wasn’t on tour, got my card back. My best friend, my mum, everyone, they have all been behind me and thanks to them I won this trophy. I am over the moon.”

NFL results & week six recap: Lamar Jackson beats Jayden Daniels and Detroit Lions dominate Dallas Cowboys

Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh briefly left the field because of a heart arrhythmia during his team’s win, but returned to watch his defence dominate the Broncos and threaten a first home shutout in Denver – until the hosts made a game of it in the fourth quarter.

Having AJ Brown back gave the Philadelphia Eagles a big spark on offence but, even with his 116 receiving yards and a touchdown, they could have been in trouble had Deshaun Watson not underwhelmed again for the Cleveland Browns.

Tennessee’s Will Levis also underwhelmed with only 95 passing yards against the injury-hit Indianapolis Colts and the league’s most porous defence, leaving the Titans with a decision to make at quarterback.

Despite Justin Fields running in two more touchdowns as the Steelers beat the Raiders in front of plenty of Pittsburgh fans in Las Vegas, with his throwing still inconsistent there could also be another quarterback change with Russell Wilson waiting in the wings.

Joe Burrow produced a career-long 47-yard touchdown run and saw his defence finally show up as the Cincinnati Bengals salvaged their season with a 17-7 win at the New York Giants.

Kirk Cousins passed for more than 500 yards last week, but the run game powered the Atlanta Falcons this time around as they rushed for 198 yards and three touchdowns to see off the Panthers.
