Next Everton manager: David Moyes? Jose Mourinho? Gareth Southgate? Erik ten Hag?

Moyes had an 11-year spell in charge of Everton from 2002 to 2013 and managed the club for more than 500 games.

During that time he took the Toffees to the 2009 FA Cup final, losing to Chelsea, and guided them to nine top-eight finishes, including a fourth-place finish in 2004-05, which took Everton into the Champions League qualifying rounds.

He left Goodison Park to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, before having spells at Real Sociedad and Sunderland.

Moyes, 61, has since had two periods in charge of West Ham, winning the Conference League in 2023, but is currently out of management after losing his job at the end of last season.

He told BBC Sport last month he was not “done yet” but added: “I don’t want to be at the bottom of the league and fighting relegation which I have had a few times, so we will see how things go.”
