UAE pledges $550m to support UN global humanitarian operations for 2026
The UAE has pledged $550m to support the United Nations’ Global Humanitarian Overview (GHO) for 2026, reinforcing the country’s commitment to international humanitarian action.
The pledge was made under the directives of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and forms a major contribution to the GHO’s target of raising $33bn to support approximately 135m people across 23 humanitarian operations.
The immediate priority of the UN appeal is to protect up to 87m people requiring urgent assistance, with $23bn in funding focused on life-saving interventions for refugees, migrants and crisis-affected communities worldwide.
UAE humanitarian leadership
The initiative underscores the UAE’s role as a leading supporter of multilateral humanitarian efforts and its long-standing cooperation with UN agencies, including the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
The support aims to ensure rapid access to relief in disaster and crisis zones, in line with directives prioritising swift and effective humanitarian response.
Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, said: “The UAE continues its steadfast commitment to supporting global humanitarian efforts and working with our UN partners to ensure access to aid for those most impacted.
“This pledge embodies the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and reflects our profound belief in the necessity of international solidarity in responding to urgent humanitarian appeals in an effective and sustainable manner that preserves human dignity and protects lives.”
Tom Fletcher, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator at OCHA, said: “Our global appeal is about saving lives where shocks have hit hardest – and turning plans into real protection.
“The UAE’s rapid and generous backing of our 2026 plan sends a strong signal, focused on people who need it most. We must deliver an effective, innovative response that meets the moment.”
International stability
It also aligns with directives from Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan emphasising fast, coordinated, and sustainable humanitarian action to protect lives and promote stability in areas facing severe challenges.
