Oil Extends Fall as Traders Assess Russia-Ukraine Peace Talk Prospects

The stock market pulled back once again on Monday after the S&P 500 neared its highest close on record.

The S&P 500 fell 0.4%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 216 points, or 0.5%. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.1%.

For the second trading day in a row, the S&P 500 moved within striking distance of its Oct. 28 closing high before losing steam. This time, it was selling in a majority of stocks and sectors that sent the market lower.
