Arsenal women's head coach Jonas Eidevall RESIGNS with immediate effect after loss to Chelsea and Bayern thrashing

ARSENAL WOMEN have announced the departure of head coach Jonas Eidevall.

The 41-year-old leaves following a poor start to the season, with Arsenal sixth in the Women’s Super League table.

Fans were left furious last week after the Gunners suffered a 5-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

And matters were made worse on Saturday when they lost 2-1 to London rivals Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium.

Eidevall was booed at the full-time whistle, with thousands of fans expressing their discontent.

One person even created a giant P45 to wave in the stands, while another wrote ‘Jonas Out’ in bold letters on the wall of a nearby underpass.

Assistant coach Renée Slegers will take charge of the Gunners as interim boss while a full-time replacement is appointed.

Arsenal sporting director Edu Gaspar said: “We thank Jonas for his commitment to the club and achievements here since joining us in 2021.

“We have great respect for the dedication and commitment he showed to our women’s first team and recognise the role he has played in the growth and development of Arsenal Women.  We all wish him the very best for the future.

“Our focus will now turn to the process of appointing a new Head Coach, and in the meantime, supporting Renée, as she takes interim charge of the team starting with two important fixtures this week.”

Clare Wheatley, the club’s director of women’s football, went on to add: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to Jonas for his hard work and dedication to Arsenal Football Club over the past three years.

“Jonas has brought us back-to-back trophies in the last two seasons, together with many memorable moments on the pitch.

“We wish Jonas and his family the best of health, happiness and success for the future.

“We have full confidence in Renée to take responsibility for the team in the interim period.”

ERT undergoes rebrand to Kiro Race, will use Porsche power

Published

on

The ERT Formula E team has been acquired by new American owners and undergone a rebrand for the upcoming season, where it will race under the banner of Kiro Race Co and run Porsche powertrains.

The team has been acquired by US-based investment firm The Forest Road Company, via additional capital from Ares Management, and will race under an American licence for the 2024-25 campaign, which gets under way with Valencia pre-season testing next month.

It will retain its base at Silverstone and has also announced a new technical partnership with Porsche, running the German manufacturer’s 99X Electric powertrain which has been renamed the 99X Electric WCG3.

The unit will undergo an upgrade ahead of the new Gen3 Evo era, but essentially be an older spec than those used by the factory team and customer outfit Andretti, while Porsche will be the only manufacturer to supply three teams on the grid.

“This is truly a historic moment for our team,” said team principal, Alex Hui. “Bringing a US-based asset management group like Forest Road into Formula E is a testament to the series’ growth and our team’s potential.

“Their investment allows us to build with confidence for the future and compete at the highest level. We are excited to work with them and Porsche Motorsport to achieve our goals.”

ERT, which stood for Electric Racing Technologies, officially joined the grid ahead of the 2023-24 season after the squad previously known as NIO 333 ended its collaboration with Chinese manufacturer NIO.

Prior to that, the team existed under various guises since the all-electric championship’s formation back in 2014-15, including NEXTEV/Team China Racing which won the inaugural drivers’ title with Nelson Piquet Jr.

The team struggled for performance last season, finishing 11th and last in the teams’ standings with Dan Ticktum and Sergio Sette Camara, with the former’s finish of fourth in Misano the best race result.

Kiro Race remains the only outfit on the grid yet to announce its driver line-up for the upcoming season, but this will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E, added: “This is a fantastic development for Formula E and for Kiro Race Co.

“It marks the entry of a sophisticated investor group with a strong track record in the sports and entertainment industry.

“This investment in the team and its ambitious new owners will help us continue to grow the championship and make it more attractive to fans and partners around the world.”

Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson’s lifestyles compared

ONE is a notorious YouTuber-turned-boxer who has taken the sport by storm.

The other terrorised all in the ring in the 1980s and 1990s, famously biting the ear off an opponent in one fight.

Iron Mike has rebuilt his life after squandering a £300m fortune with a cannabis empire, and is a huge advocate of the drug.

And as Paul has continued to rise up the ranks, he has splashed the cash on a fleet of amazing cars.

Whereas Tyson had more money than sense until a £15m debt saw him part with his cherished car collection.

Paul now lives in a plush mansion worth £13m in Puerto Rico, after escaping his hectic life in LA.

But these days, Tyson lounges in his Vegas property he paid £2.5m for with wife Lakiha, who he married in 2009.

Paul is not yet married but is smitten with his speed skater girlfriend  Jutta Leerdam.

She will be by his side when her man puts his 9-1 boxing record on the line against two-time heavyweight champ Tyson on July 20.

Mike Tyson’s controversial comeback

Mike Tyson is BACK!

Yes, boxing’s youngest heavyweight champ of all time – just 20 when he achieved the feat – is preparing to lace them up again.

He faces YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul on July 20 in Texas.

The controversial clash – set for the 80,000-seat AT&T Stadium in Dallas – has been scrutinised over the 30-year age gap.

Tyson will be 58 by the time the fight for the ages comes around and nearly 20 years removed from his last professional contest.

He was last seen in the ring in November 2020 for an exhibition with fellow legend Roy Jones Jr, which ended a draw after eight rounds.

Paul is meanwhile 9-1 in the ring, losing only to Tommy Fury in 2023, and has won three times since.

His fight with Tyson will also be a landmark first on Netflix, with over 250MILLION subscribers able to watch the bout.

Dana White sounds off on ‘do-nothing motherf*ckers’ in UFC rankings panel: ‘The morons strike again’

Dana White sounds off on ‘do-nothing motherf*ckers’ in UFC rankings panel: ‘The morons strike again’

Dana White, once again, is not happy with his own UFC rankings panel.

The UFC CEO has had an issue with the rankings panel for several months in regards to Jon Jones not being ranked the top pound-for-pound fighter despite not competing in well over 18 months. Additionally, White slammed his panel for having Max Holloway ranked seven spots behind Justin Gaethje in the lightweight rankings after Holloway knocked out the former interim champ to win the BMF title at UFC 300, and has been pushing for A.I. to take things over.

In the latest ripping of the panel, White used Khalil Rountree being ranked No. 8 after giving Alex Pereira a run for his money at UFC 307 earlier this month before getting knocked out in the fourth round.

“The morons strike again,” White said in an Instagram story. “Khalil Rountree fights that bad ass fight against Pereira, and the morons rank him No. 8 — keep him at No. 8.

“Literally this week, I have a meeting to try to fix the rankings, and get all these no-nothing motherf*ckers out of it. So hopefully this week I get this fixed.”

White will hopefully provide more details on his plans following Tuesday’s DWCS Season 8, Week 10 card.

Meyer Shank signs BMW, Cadillac talents for IMSA return with Acura

Published

on

Renger van der Zande and Nick Yelloly have joined Acura for its 2025 IMSA SportsCar Championship GTP campaign with Meyer Shank Racing after leaving Cadillac and BMW.

Two-time Daytona 24 Hours winner van der Zande has switched to the Honda brand after seven seasons with Cadillac, first with the Wayne Taylor Racing team with which he won the IMSA blue riband enduro in 2019 and ’20 and then Chip Ganassi Racing

Yelloly has made the move from BMW, which announced his departure on Monday, after six years as a factory driver, in which time he won the Nurburgring and Spa GT3 24-hour enduros and took a first IMSA win for the German marque’s M Hybrid V8 LMDh in IMSA last year.

He and Van der Zande will be the full-season drivers in one of the pair of Acura ARX-06 LMDhs fielded in the GTP class by MSR, which is returning to IMSA after a one-year break.

The other car will be shared by former MSR Indycar driver Tom Blomqvist and Colin Braun, who will reprise their partnership of 2023 that yielded a controversial victory at Daytona.

MSR was subsequently found to have manipulated information from its tyre pressure sensors, and was fined and given a points deduction but retained the win.

The team, which was out of contract with Acura at the end of the season, was not retained as Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti undertook a planned expansion to two cars.

WTR has now returned to Cadillac for 2025, which precipitated the return of MSR in conjunction with the Honda Racing Corporation USA organisation (formerly known as Honda Performance Development) that runs the Acura LMDh programme.

HRC US will take a deeper role in the running of the cars at the tracks and will be responsible for engineering one of the entries in 2025.

Van der Zande thanked Cadillac for “everything they have done for me over the past seven seasons”.

“Although it’s hard for me to leave, it’s time for a new chapter that I am really looking forward to,” he said.

“I’ve been racing against Acura for the past seven years and they’ve always been a fierce competitor, but I’m excited to now be on their side and tap into their resources and see what we can do.”

Yelloly also thanked his former employer for which he drove in the GTP ranks in 2023 and ’24 with the Rahal team.

“They were the first to give me a chance as a works driver back in 2019, and together we celebrated many great successes,” he said.

“I’m really excited to be joining the Acura MSR/HRC project. Clearly the team is very hungry and willing to push flat out, which sits well with me as I have the same type of mentality.”

Team boss Mike Shank said: “Putting Tom and Colin back in the driver’s seat just made sense. The two of them had an incredible season in ’23 and I think that’s just cracking the surface on what they can accomplish together.

“And then with the addition of Renger and Nick, they both have extensive prototype experience and have shown a lot of strength the past few seasons, so I think they will be a big asset to the team.”

Premier League postpones Manchester City legal meetings

Premier League postpones Manchester City legal meetings

The Premier League has postponed a key meeting of its clubs – originally scheduled for Thursday – that was intended to decide how to respond to last week’s verdict in the legal battle with Manchester City over rules governing commercial deals.

On Friday, chief executive Richard Masters warned clubs it was “taking the necessary time” to take stock of the ruling, and hinted at a possible delay.

BBC Sport has now been told that the meeting will instead take place early next week.

Meetings of its Financial Controls Advisory Group and Legal Advisory Group – due to take place on Wednesday – have also been delayed.

BBC Sport has been told the league hopes they will take place later this week.

Both sides claimed victory after the decision of an arbitration panel was published last Monday, following a legal challenge by City against the league’s associated party transaction (APT) regulations.

APT rules are in place to ensure sponsorship deals with companies linked to clubs’ owners represent fair market value.

City had some complaints upheld, with two aspects of the rules deemed unlawful by the tribunal.

The tribunal said low-interest shareholder loans should not be excluded from the scope of APT rules, and that changes made in February to toughen up the regulations also breached competition law.

In its initial response on Monday, the Premier League said the panel “endorsed the overall objectives, framework and decision-making of the APT system”, adding it would seek to amend its rules “quickly and effectively”.

But City then claimed the Premier League’s summary of the panel’s ruling was “misleading” and contained “several inaccuracies”, in an escalation of the dispute.

In a letter sent to top-flight clubs and the Premier League, City wrote that the rules were now “void”, that the club had “concern [over] the Premier League’s suggestion that new APT rules should be passed within the next 10 days”, and signalled possible further legal action if there was a “knee-jerk reaction”.

Shavkat Rakhmonov ‘a great code to crack’ for Belal Muhammad

Shavkat Rakhmonov ‘a great code to crack’ for Belal Muhammad

Mike Valle is excited for the challenge of helping Belal Muhammad hand Shavkat Rakhmonov his first loss.

Welterweight champion Muhammad (24-3 MMA, 15-3 UFC) makes his first title defense against Rakhmonov (18-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) in the UFC 310 headliner on Dec. 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (ESPN+ pay-per-view, ESPN2, ESPN+).

Valle knows what it’s like to coach underdogs to a world title, where he’s recently been in the corner for Muhammad’s title win over Leon Edwards at UFC 304, then Julianna Peña’s title win over Raquel Pennington at UFC 307.

“It’s a great challenge,” Valle told MMA Junkie. “It’s a great code to crack. I can’t wait for it. There’s all this hype behind him and he’s a great guy. He’s a great fighter, too. Belal is unreal, too. He’s the best in the world at fighting.

“And he’s the best in the world at going back, going sideways, putting pressure, not going to the ground. So it doesn’t matter where the fight may take place. He’s willing to go forward, go back, go to the side, fight on top, fight behind. It really doesn’t scare us. Whatever it is, let’s go.”

It’s been a long road for Muhammad, who had to go on a 10-fight unbeaten streak to finally earn his title shot. Valle says he knew from the start that Muhammad had championship potential.

“It’s been a journey with him, and whenever I saw Belal walk in for the first time in my gym, I told him, ‘Dude, you’re going to be a world champion,’” Valle said. “I mean that. That was the first time I saw him there: ‘You’re going to be a world champion’ because I saw something in his eyes and his work ethic. … He’s nonstop. It’s been a journey for him. He’s worked hard for that journey, and I’m so proud of him.”
