Great video man! So frustrated with CasaOS. I had been running a couple containers in production in my homelab on a zimaboard and was super happy, when a CasaOS bug completely blew away my data directory. And I totally was smart and had a backup #didnot so it wasn’t a big deal #itwasabigdeal

Reminds me of rc toy robots from the 80’s. But I’m sure the hardware isn’t THAT old.

I was looking forward to this release. I held out on buying the zimaboard in anticipation that things could get slightly better and man what a price point!! but only one rj45, pass! So disappointing!!

    You just got a subscriber.

A side note, you might want to try raising your camera height so the lens is the same height as your eyes and the camera is level. Especially with that wide lens up close.

IceWhale is a fraud. I ordered my ZimaBlade Sept 2023. It's Mar 2024. My account on Crowdsupply says delivery has been delayed yet again. This time Mar 29, 2024. This is the 4 th delay. STOP promoting Chinese fraudster companies that don't deliver. Its fine for you as an influencer, you get stuff to promote, while the rest of us get nothing. Hope you are paid well.

What’s a low power alternative to this to use as a truenas sever. Hopefully something with expandable ram

Totally agree about the n100 CPU. I will not touch anything less than a n100 CPU in 2024, especially as it decodes AV1 via hardware.

I just received the $96 quad4 version of the ZimaBlade since I already have a ZimaBoard which when booting to Blancco (a compulsory thing for work) the ZimaBoard slowed down in the UI so much it was unusable (either before drive selection via PXE boot, or after successfully erasing drives booting from a USB which meant I couldn't click the "report" then "send" buttons for proof on the record that they'd been erased).
I wasn't sure going cheaper than the ZimaBoard would solve this issue, but it did! Blancco on the ZimaBlade runs so well I've now ordered the $64 version just to see if the even cheaper dual-core CPU can also run Blancco with no issues.

Thinking at loud – maybe that PCI-E slot is placed there, so all ports are on the same plane, so if you use some common (like 3d printed) case, all IO is on the same plane…? Just thinking.

    October 15, 2024 at 3:23 pm

Maybe trade it for a better shirt.

  17. @codyrap95

    October 15, 2024 at 3:23 pm

Why do you keep comparing it to the ZimaBoard? It's not a replacement, it's at best a cheaper version of it. You have some valid points but you forgot the most important of all: price. This board is only about the price.

finally someone is talking about the pcie design flaw.

If I just wanna use the „walkman from the future“😉 as a pure backup NAS, can I go with the base model, or is the 4 core variant the better choice? thx

  19. @kev2020-z9s

    October 15, 2024 at 3:23 pm

Can you power the zimablade from a atx 12v psu?

  20. @cesarvarela5438

    October 15, 2024 at 3:23 pm

Yeah the n100 would be better to have even if it’s more expensive

  21. @jwdory

    October 15, 2024 at 3:23 pm

We need a better Zima with multi gig nics, a better processor and more ports.

I bought one of these to run a small casaOS home server. It was dead out of the box. Still can't get it to boot up. Put RAM in, bought the official 3A usb-c power supply, and still nothing.

I use it as a hacking lab so we can definitely hack with it or do stupid shit.

New Home Backup Server (Dell T640 with 18 20TB Disks)

In this video I create a new backup server from a Dell EMC PowerEdge T640 with 18x 20TB Seagate Exos refurbished drives. Also there’s some more ranting about backups in general. But idk, there are chapters so you can skip to whatever. And it’s not technically a server, in that it doesn’t serve files. It’s really more of a client that takes files from other servers and holds onto them. But I call it a backup server because hardware-wise it’s a server. Anywho, that’s the description. It’s probably not optimal for the YouTube algorithm, but hey, I’m not an influencer even though I have a TikTok account that I don’t use.

The Man Who Revolutionized Computer Science With Math

The Man Who Revolutionized Computer Science With Math

Leslie Lamport revolutionized how computers talk to each other. The Turing Award-winning computer scientist pioneered the field of distributed systems, where multiple components on different networks coordinate to achieve a common objective. (Internet searches, cloud computing and artificial intelligence all involve orchestrating legions of powerful computing machines to work together.) In the early 1980s, Lamport also created LaTeX, a document preparation system that provides sophisticated ways to typeset complex formulas and format scientific documents. In 1989, Lamport invented Paxos, a “consensus algorithm” that allows multiple computers to execute complex tasks; without it, modern computing could not exist. He’s also brought more attention to a handful of problems, giving them distinctive names like the bakery algorithm and the Byzantine Generals Problem. Lamport’s work since the 1990s has focused on “formal verification,” the use of mathematical proofs to verify the correctness of software and hardware systems. Notably, he created a “specification language” called TLA+ (for Temporal Logic of Actions), which employs the precise language of mathematics to prevent bugs and avoid design flaws.
