The organizations losing confidence in AI are the ones most likely to get it right.
Six months ago, 40% of IT leaders described their organizations as mature in AI deployment. Today that number is 23%. Before you read that as a setback, consider what it actually reflects.
We recently surveyed 800 IT leaders across the U.S. and U.K. for our Q3 2026 trends report, and the data tells a consistent story: the organizations revising their self-assessment downward are overwhelmingly the ones that have moved AI agents from pilots into production. They’re not losing faith in AI. They’re running into the problems that only show up when agents are doing real work in real systems, and they’re being honest about what they found.

That kind of honesty is harder to come by than it sounds, and it matters more than the confidence number itself.
Deployment was the easy part
84% of organizations plan to expand AI use in IT operations over the next 6 to 24 months, so the drop in confidence isn’t a retreat. What it reflects is a more accurate picture of what production actually requires.
In a pilot, an AI agent does one thing in a controlled setting. In production, it accesses real systems, makes decisions that affect real workflows, and operates continuously, often without a human in the loop. The governance infrastructure that entails is materially different from what it took to get the pilot working. Most organizations built enough to ship. Fewer built enough to scale.
The IT leaders revising their self-assessment are confronting questions they didn’t have to ask at the pilot stage: Can we see every agent running in our environment? Do we know what each one can access? If an agent behaved unexpectedly last week, how long would it take to find out? For most organizations, at least one of those answers is uncomfortable.

The gap between perception and reality is where risk accumulates
The graphic above captures the structural problem. Across confidence, governance, and autonomy, the same pattern holds: deployment is moving faster than the controls built around it.
The organizations that have closed this gap share specific characteristics. They’ve consolidated their IT environments rather than adding tools to solve each new problem, because every additional platform creates another place where agent identity, access, and accountability can go unmanaged. They treat AI agents as governed identities rather than tolerated shadow processes. And they measure what AI actually produces, not just what it deploys.
The payoff is tangible. Organizations in the top tier of our maturity model are five times more likely to report no barriers to expanding their AI agents than the average organization. They are not more cautious about AI. They are more confident in it, because they built the foundation that makes confidence earned rather than assumed.
The governance gap has a specific shape
The hardest problem in enterprise AI right now is not capability. It is accountability, and the data makes the specific failure point clear: non-human identity governance is the least adopted AI security practice we measured, in place at just 21% of organizations.
Non-human identities now outnumber human users in 83% of organizations, and that population is growing fast. Yet most of those identities exist without the governance structures that every human employee has as a matter of course: no formal record, no named owner, no defined scope of access, no offboarding process when their purpose expires. They keep running. They keep accessing systems. They keep accumulating permissions. We call these Zombie Agents, and they are the service account problem of the AI era, operating at machine speed and in every department.

The accountability gap is where real risk lives. When a human employee takes an action, there is an implicit accountability chain. When an autonomous agent takes an action, that chain breaks unless it has been deliberately engineered. Most organizations have not yet engineered it, and the gap between the autonomy agents are being granted and the oversight structures in place to manage them is widening every month.
What the confidence drop is actually telling us
When AI maturity confidence was uniformly high across the market, that was worth worrying about. It meant most organizations hadn’t yet run into the hard parts. A selective drop, concentrated among organizations actively running agents in production, means the market is developing a more accurate picture of what AI operations genuinely require.
The organizations recalibrating are doing the work that makes long-term AI adoption possible: building identity infrastructure that covers agents alongside humans and devices, unifying the environments where governance needs to apply, and measuring outcomes rather than just counting deployments. They haven’t lowered their ambitions for AI. They have raised their standards for what it means to run it responsibly.
84% of organizations plan to expand AI use over the next two years. The ones that will do it well are honest enough, right now, to admit what they haven’t yet built.

A few weeks later, when ICE did murder another person, he doubled down and blamed people for calling ICE murderers for the additional murder. So it’s little surprise that he’s at it again. He’s taking the fact that ICE has been on something of a killing spree over the last few weeks as… vindication for the batshit crazy statement he made earlier about how calling ICE murderers makes them only more likely to murder.
Homan: “I said this a year ago — if they hateful rhetoric doesn’t stop there will be bloodshed. And unfortunately I was right. And I’ll tell you something else — it’s not over yet … I’m afraid we’re gonna bury an ICE agent.”
This is classic psychopathic abuser language. “Baby look what you made me do.”
It should never be coming out of the mouth of a government official. It’s horrifying and disqualifying. No, calling ICE murderers for the murders they committed should have zero impact on future murders, and if (accurately) calling ICE murderers leads them to murder more people, then what the fuck are we doing here? Shut down ICE. Fire everyone associated with them, including Tom Homan.

Of course, Homan wasn’t just blaming people for calling murderers murderers. He also wanted to blame the people they murdered for not “complying.”
Homan on people getting killed by ICE: “It comes down to one simple fact — these people failed to comply with law enforcement … all they had to do is comply. If they did, they’d be alive today.”
Once again, saying shit like that should lead to an immediate firing and possibly an investigation. First of all, it’s clear from the videos released after some of the recent ICE shootings that it had nothing to do with people not complying, and appeared to be almost entirely about raging ICE agents who had no interest in de-escalating situations and seemed to be looking to cause harm.
But, more to the point, not complying with a law enforcement demand (especially a ridiculous one) should not result in your execution.

Tom Homan has been credibly accused of accepting $50,000 in a fast food bag to try to curry favor with President Trump. Does Tom Homan think it would have been okay for law enforcement to shoot Tom Homan dead in a Cava restaurant, claiming that he was clearly violating the law in accepting a bribe? Or does he only accept due process when it comes to himself and his friends?
And just as bad, Tom Homan, like so many MAGA leaders, absolutely positively refuses to take any responsibility at all for his own mistakes. First he claims that the mess in Minnesota he inherited didn’t involve any mistakes at all.
Of course it’s funny because in that clip he suggests that he was the one who refused to buy ICE body cams because of the government shutdown (which is a lie; ICE received a ton of money in the earlier budget bill, and Homan knows this. ICE can afford body cameras). But then a couple minutes later, when a reporter asks about the now-revealed anger issues and mental health problems of one of the ICE murderers from last week, suddenly Homan deflects and says to talk to someone at ICE instead.

Dude. Weren’t you just talking about how you were in charge of properly outfitting ICE.
It’s truly astounding how this MAGA administration appears to be fundamentally allergic to ever taking responsibility for anything. This seems like an impossibly short-term strategy. Or simply the product of a government run by people who are in way, way over their heads, but too vain to admit it.
Apple may be getting ready to let you pay off your next iPhone, iPad, or Mac in installments. The company is reportedly planning to introduce a new financing option called “Apple Upgrade” in the US on July 28 in partnership with Klarna, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Gurman says Apple could offer the buy-now, pay-later (BNPL) program for most current iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch models, though the specific terms may vary depending on the product’s typical price and expected upgrade cycle. Buyers could get a 24-month payment plan for new iPhones and Apple Watch models, likely reflecting how often people tend to upgrade these devices, while the payment plan may stretch to 36 months for iPads and Macs.

Cheaper models across Apple’s product lineup might be left out, including the Apple Watch SE, the base iPad, the iPhone 16, and the MacBook Neo.

The current iPhone Upgrade Program is reportedly going away
Apple already offers financing through its iPhone Upgrade Program, which launched back in 2015 and bundles AppleCare+ coverage into monthly payments. According to Gurman, the company plans to stop accepting sign-ups for the iPhone Upgrade Program once Apple Upgrade goes live, effectively phasing it out in favor of the Klarna partnership.
Unlike the iPhone Upgrade Program, Apple Upgrade reportedly won’t include AppleCare+ as part of the base plan. That means anyone financing a new device may need to add coverage separately. Apple hasn’t confirmed any of these details publicly, and pricing for the financing plan and added AppleCare coverage, if any, remains unclear.
Have you ever found out that something you remember from your youth is now gone, and you didn’t even notice? If you are a certain age, you might feel that way when I deliver the news: You haven’t been able to buy International Reply Coupons (IRCs) at a US Post Office since early 2013. By the end of 2026, you won’t be able to buy them anywhere. The age of the IRC is over.
What’s an IRC?

If that didn’t mean anything to you, you might be too young to remember, or maybe you just weren’t into shortwave listening or ham radio. Although there were other reasons to get IRCs, a radio hobby is the most likely reason a Hackday reader would have bought an IRC.
For radio purposes, here’s the problem. You’ve worked on your station for months, and one winter night, you finally pull in that rare station from Luxembourg. They’ll send you a QSL card to verify that you heard them. You only have to send them a letter telling them what time you heard them, what frequency, and some details about the program you heard. But they probably don’t want to pay the postage required to send hundreds or thousands of cards overseas.
While this is a radio-specific problem, you might find the same issue with pen pals or when trying to buy things from an overseas company.

If everyone were in the same country, the solution would be easy. Take a stamp, put it on an envelope that has your address on it, and stuff it in with the letter. Or, you could just drop a stamp or two in the letter you sent.

The problem is, US postage won’t help Radio Luxembourg. On the other hand, the effort required for you to buy postage that works in Luxembourg would have been a nightmare.
Enter the UPU
The Universal Postal Union is a UN agency that is effectively an association of post offices in 192 countries. Their charter is to facilitate mailing things worldwide.
The IRCs date back to 1906. The idea is you buy an IRC at your post office. You send it to Radio Luxembourg, or wherever. There, the mail person at the radio station could go to their post office and trade the coupon for enough local postage to send a surface letter worldwide.

As demand has dwindled, post offices worldwide have quit selling IRCs. As of last year, Australia still did. But Germany, Britain, the United States, and many other countries gave up on them long ago. In fact, Britain’s Royal Post claimed that the average post office sold less than one IRC per year at the time it threw in the towel.
UPU decided to end IRCs altogether by December 31, 2026. The end of an ear and, apparently, not just for radio hobbyists. It is telling that the UPU’s recent editions of IRCs had print runs of 1,000 or even 500. So they obviously weren’t selling very many.

IRCs Other Claim to Fame
If you’ve heard of these before and you aren’t interested in radio, then it might have been in economic history. Have you heard of the Ponzi scheme? It has become a generic term for any business scheme that relies on raising money from new investors to service debt owed to old investors.
However, the original Ponzi scheme dates back to 1920, when Charles Ponzi realized he could buy IRCs in a country where they were cheap and sell them for more in another country. He was happy to accept investors, of course.
The problem is that profits are thin, and the costs of acquiring and transporting large numbers of IRCs quickly swamp most potential profits. Fluctuations in currency exchange rates take the rest.

Goodbye!
So the end of the IRC marks a closed chapter for ham radio and swindling. There were probably other uses, too, that are now consumed by electronic mail, payment systems, and the like.

But there’s no getting around the fact that it’s wildly expensive. And, as is so often the case with Ring products, many of the best features sit behind a subscription paywall that pushes the overall cost even higher.
The hardware is excellent. The ongoing costs are far less appealing.

It has taken Ring a very long time to properly revisit its Elite line. The original Ring Elite launched around eight years ago and, while the Power over Ethernet setup made it popular with professional installers and smart home enthusiasts, the actual camera hardware had long since been overtaken by cheaper Ring doorbells further down the range.
For anyone wanting all the latest Ring features, using genuine PoE power, there had been a huge waiting game. The new Ring Wired Video Doorbell Elite (2nd-gen) changes that.
Ring has finally thrown its best camera tech, radar-powered motion detection, Low-Light Sight colour night vision and its new Retinal 4K branding into a proper PoE doorbell.

There’s also remote gate access support for higher-end properties, alongside the sort of flush-mounted installation that looks far cleaner than most battery-powered video doorbells stuck onto brickwork.
The catch, naturally, is the price. Not just the upfront cost either, but the continuing subscription fees needed to unlock much of what makes this doorbell feel “elite” in the first place.

Despite the “Elite” branding, this actually sits a little less flush than the original Ring Elite. Presumably Ring simply couldn’t squeeze all the 4K hardware and upgraded internals into such a slim body.

But the moment you start looking at the more advanced features, the subscription prompts arrive thick and fast.
24/7 recording requires the higher-tier Ring Home Pro subscription, otherwise recordings are motion-based only. Smart search features are locked away too, alongside AI-powered tools like Video Descriptions, Familiar Faces beta and enhanced event filtering.
Ring’s Smart Responses feature is here as well and remains one of the more useful additions to the ecosystem, particularly if you miss deliveries regularly.

The actual event management system is excellent. Ring’s Event History page presents clips in a clean thumbnail-based timeline with adjustable thumbnail sizing and genuinely useful filtering options.
Combined with the live timeline view, it’s quick and painless to find, review and download specific footage.
The problem is that Ring increasingly feels like a platform where you’re buying expensive hardware first and then renting many of the standout features afterwards.
That becomes especially noticeable when brands like Reolink and Aqara now offer local storage, strong AI detection and excellent image quality for far less money and without such aggressive subscription dependency.

Ring clearly knows this Elite model is aimed at wealthier buyers and professionally installed smart homes, but even by those standards the paywalling feels excessive.

Video quality and performance
Very sharp daytime video
Full colour night vision
Video performance is where the Elite (2nd-gen) really earns its keep.
The Retinal 4K footage looks fantastic. Daytime video is exceptionally sharp, colours look rich without appearing overprocessed, and there’s enough detail here to genuinely take advantage of the 10x zoom feature.
That zoom initially sounds like one of those specs designed mainly for marketing slides, but it actually proved surprisingly useful during testing.

I was able to zoom far enough to check whether it was our cat hopping over a wall across the road, and also clearly make out the number plate on a delivery van that dropped a parcel without ringing the bell.
Low-Light Sight is equally impressive. The colour night vision produces bright, detailed footage in lighting conditions where many rival doorbells would already have switched over to muddy monochrome infrared.

I did notice occasional flickering between the infrared mode and colour mode at night though. I suspect using the larger wedge mount to alter the viewing angle slightly could help reduce that behaviour.
Ring also offers a Retinal Tuning AI feature designed to reduce juddering, pixelation and other visual artefacts. During testing though, the combination of native Ethernet connectivity and the already excellent 4K feed meant I rarely felt it was actually necessary.
Unsurprisingly, this feature also sits behind the subscription paywall.

Motion detection is excellent too. The radar-powered 3D Motion Detection system delivered very accurate alerts during testing, with far fewer false triggers than older Ring doorbells.

Call quality is another strong point. Ring continues to deliver some of the clearest two-way audio in the video doorbell market and conversations through the Elite sounded crisp and natural on both ends.

You want the absolute best
PoE for neatness and reliability, the full suite of motion detection, and incredible image quality make this doorbell stand out.

Final Thoughts
The Ring Wired Video Doorbell Elite (2nd-gen) is a seriously impressive video doorbell. From the excellent Retinal 4K image quality to the rock-solid PoE connectivity, almost every part of the experience feels premium.

For existing Ring users upgrading from the original Elite, the improvement is massive. That old model had fallen badly behind Ring’s newer hardware, whereas this finally feels like a flagship again.
But this is also a product that feels unapologetically aimed at affluent smart home buyers who won’t blink at the upfront cost or the continuing subscription fees.
Without a Ring Home plan, the experience feels stripped back compared to what rival brands now offer locally and for free. With the subscription added in, this quickly becomes one of the most expensive video doorbell ecosystems around.
Still, if money is less of a concern and you want one of the best professionally installed PoE video doorbells currently available, Ring has absolutely delivered the goods here.

As AI tools proliferate and become deeply ingrained in software development around the world, new research from the cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike shows how attackers are actively targeting the AI toolchain to steal access credentials, gain deeper access to a target environment, exfiltrate sensitive data, and even destroy target files and systems—all while finding new ways to cover their tracks.
Researchers discovered a worm in the wild while investigating AI software supply chain attacks. Adam Meyers, CrowdStrike’s senior vice president of counter adversary work, says that the company has not yet attributed the activity to a specific actor, but that it fits into larger evolutions in how attackers like TeamPCP (which Crowdstrike tracks as “Altered Spider”) and North Korean groups are targeting the AI software supply chain.
“This is one of the campaigns that we’ve seen showing that this is an emerging attack class,” Meyers tells WIRED. “As AI coding agents become the development standard, supply chain threats are evolving to exploit those trust relationships. For the first time we’re experiencing how much AI and the AI toolchain has played into the broader tech ecosystem.”
The worm CrowdStrike identified works in phases. First it does reconnaissance to assess the target environment. Then it looks for access tokens and other sensitive data, like cryptographic keys and server access credentials that it can deliver to attackers. As the malware gains privileges, it further unpacks itself and continues to grab credentials, particularly “npm” tokens that give access to key software package management servers and other development capabilities like pull requests.

The deeper the malware bores into the system, the more sensitive data it can grab. At this point, the malware can also deploy its destructive capability, or what Meyers calls a “death switch,” to destroy files or block legitimate access to the compromised infrastructure.
The key finding, though, is that much of the worm’s malicious activity takes place in what are essentially blind spots, because so much of its behavior mimics legitimate actions. “It’s like a needle in a haystack, except this is a needle in a needle stack,” Meyers says. “This looks very much like a lot of the automation organizations are using to build code, so it’s very difficult to detect.”
Meyers adds, too, that in these AI software development pipelines, it is harder to gather the data points that security scanners and analysis tools traditionally use to detect potentially suspicious activity.
“There’s a lot of telemetry overlap because legitimate AI coding systems are operating the same way as this worm, so it becomes very difficult to discern from the telemetry you have available to you what is legitimate and what is illegitimate,” Meyers says.

To hide in plain sight even more insidiously, the authors of the worm included time delays where various capabilities will execute hours or even days after the groundwork is laid, making it even harder for defenders to establish a cause and effect of certain events leading to certain outcomes.
Meyers says that Crowdstrike has been working on strategies to connect more of the dots, but he emphasizes that as AI software development explodes, there is a pressing need for all players to collaborate on structural solutions.
“It’s a limited detection surface because only so much of this activity is actually going to produce any sort of telemetry signal for us to look at,” Meyers says, “so it becomes extremely onerous to determine what is legitimate and what is illegitimate behavior.”

The financing is the largest-ever Series A round for a humanoid-first robotics company in Europe, the company said.
UK-based AI and robotics company Humanoid has secured a $152m Series A financing round at a post-money valuation of $1.35bn.
The funding was led by Prime Movers Lab, a venture capital firm focused on investments in breakthrough scientific start-ups, with participation from Schaeffler, Bosch, Fubon Financial Holding Venture Capital and Aglaé Ventures – the investment firm of LVMH chairman Bernard Arnault.
The financing represents the largest-ever Series A for a humanoid-first robotics company in Europe, according to Humanoid, and brings its total funding to date to $270m.

“In just two years, we’ve gone from an idea to becoming Europe’s first pure-play humanoid robotics unicorn, partnered with some of the world’s leading industrial companies and built one of the strongest pipelines in the industry,” said CEO and founder Artem Sokolov.
“This funding gives us the resources to move even faster and to turn humanoid robots from breakthrough technology into everyday industrial tools.”
The 2024-founded company builds humanoid robots for industrial use in ways that are “commercially viable, scalable and safe”, it said. It employs more than 250 people between London, Boston, Vancouver and San Diego.
“Humanoid robotics will be one of the defining technologies of the next decade, reshaping how commercial and industrial work gets done. We expect the field to consolidate around a handful of category leaders across the US, Europe and China,” said Zia Huque, general partner at Prime Movers Lab.

Humanoid said the new capital would be used to fund its next phase of growth, accelerate commercial deployments and business expansion, and further develop its wheeled robots and related proprietary AI platform, ‘KinetIQ’.
According to the company, it has ongoing partnerships with Fortune 500 companies such as SAP, Nvidia, Bosch and Siemens, and recently secured an agreement with Schaeffler for the large-scale deployment of thousands of humanoid robots in manufacturing environments.
“By combining our decades of industrial expertise and manufacturing excellence with Humanoid’s breakthrough physical AI platform, we are actively backing one of the most exciting frontiers in technology,” said Klaus Rosenfeld, CEO of Schaeffler.
Bosch CTO Mathias Pillin said that his company would “act as Humanoid’s contract manufacturing partner while also providing strategic consulting and technical expertise in hardware design, production and supply chain”.

Meanwhile, Asian corporate giants have made significant moves around robotics in recent days. Samsung Electronics is establishing a new robotics division, while Hyundai Motor Group is acquiring full control of Boston Dynamics.

Stihl is a brand name that is no doubt familiar to most DIYers and landscaper who use power tools to help them maintain green spaces around their home. The company is, arguably, best known for its powered chainsaws, which are often ranked among the top of the major manufacturers. Stihl does make a range of powered tools outside of its well-regarded line of cutters, including leaf blowers.

Still, one visit to the blower section of the brand’s website will show you quite a few options to choose from, and that could make it difficult for some home owners to discern which best suits their needs. Thankfully, Stihl itself has taken some of the guesswork out of the equation for shoppers, with the company naming its BG 50, BG 56 C-E, BGA 60, BG 86, BG 86 C-E, BR 200, and BR 450 C-EF models as the best blowers to use around the house.

That’s a fairly extensive list of blowers in and of itself, of course. And yes, you’d be correct in assuming that there are quite a few differences between those various makes and models of Stihl blowers. Here’s how Stihl says those various blowers might best be deployed by home owners.

Which Stihl blower is best for your property
Money is one of the more notable variances in the listed Stihl blowers, with models ranging in price from $179.99 to $549.99 for the BG 50 handheld blower and the BR 450 backpack blower, respectively. This is a higher price than what is offered by some market competitors, and the wide price range is largely due to variances in design and on-the-job capabilities. Ultimately, the size of the space you are clearing will be the biggest deciding factor between which model best suits your needs.
According to Stihl, folks looking to use their blower on smaller yards, patios, and sidewalks should consider either the BG 50, BG 56 C-E, or BGA 60. The last model listed there is the lone battery-powered blower on the list. Each blower offers similar capacities in terms of performance and airflow, though the battery-powered BGA 60 bests the others in terms of noise. Per Stihl, folks with slightly larger spaces to clear may need to simply deal with the noise of a combustion engine, with the company recommending the BG 86 or BG 86 C-E.
Those handheld blowers offer upgrades in power and airflow over the small space models, maxing out with air speeds of 190 mph and reportedly offering full-yard coverage for the removal of leaves and debris. Stihl’s heavy-duty recommendations for large yards, the BR 200 and BR 450, do as well. Those blowers’ backpack designs also improve comfort, and the additional fuel capacity means they’ll likely increase your runtime to boot. This could be a major factor when you’re clearing a larger space.
Last week, Nvidia invited a handful of journalists to a briefing about AI infrastructure to help convey the physical reality behind simulated intelligence.
“Infrastructure is physical, it’s real,” said Ian Buck, general manager of Nvidia’s hyperscale and HPC computing business. “You can touch it, you can see it, and it’s what helps bring AI to life. So that is part of the goal here.”
The briefing included a tour of a working Nvidia lab – a mini-datacenter – nestled in a residential district of Sunnyvale, a Silicon Valley suburb. Attendees were asked not to reveal the location – which is one of four such facilities – though they’re easy enough to discover with a bit of online sleuthing.
AI infrastructure is indeed real – or at least realized as revenue when equipment is booked under a bill-and-hold arrangement – and you can touch it if your job involves handling tech gear.

It’s also controversial as the AI tsunami crests over a society that’s uncertain if the technology will bring bounty or harm. Just one day after the press event, Dutch activists peppered a data center serving Microsoft workloads with chemical-filled balloons to protest climate and political concerns. Nvidia presumably would prefer not to have neighbors grousing about power and water consumption at its facilities, though such concerns may be muted in an area so in thrall to the tech sector.
In any event, Nvidia’s latest data center hardware should require significantly less human intervention than its older kit. During the lab tour, Andrew Bell, a senior VP of hardware engineering, showed off how the company’s Vera Rubin NVL72 compute tray is vastly faster to install than prior hardware. “With automation assembly, the compute tray inside the Vera Rubin NVL72 can be assembled in one minute, compared to GB200 compute tray assembly that typically takes 90 minutes. This represents a 90x improvement,” he said.
The Nvidia event focused on how the company’s Vera Rubin platform, announced at Computex 2024 and detailed at CES in January, advances its vision of AI Factories, a type of computing infrastructure dedicated to running AI workloads.

The platform consists of six chips: the Vera CPU, Rubin GPU, NVLink 6 switch, ConnectX-9 network interface, BlueField-4 data processing unit (DPU), and Spectrum-6 Ethernet switch.

These appear in five rack-mountable systems designed for data centers: the Vera Rubin NVL72 compute tray, Vera Rubin NVL72 NVLink switch tray, the Groq 3 LPX inference accelerator tray, the Vera CPU tray, the BlueField-4 STX storage tray, and the Spectrum-6 SPX switch tray.
Nvidia’s pitch for all this hardware is that agentic workloads – running AI agents – require a different approach. AI agents work best, the company claims, with sustained inference and low latency across multiple reasoning steps, high decoding throughput, efficient reasoning over long contexts, large key-value cache capacity, and the ability to scale models across linked GPU domains. The company’s AI Factory calls for unified compute capability that spans the data center.
It’s an architectural gambit based on the business of selling tokens. And while GPUs are the star of the show for training and inference, CPUs play a critical role in data processing, networking, scheduling, and storage. Vera represents a bet that making the core faster is better for agentic workloads than increasing the number of cores.

Nvidia claims that the Vera CPU Olympus Core accelerates agents 2x, offers 3x core-to-core bandwidth, and delivers 40 percent lower latency via LPDDR5X memory. And to the extent Nvidia’s data center customers can move more tokens for their AI inference operations, they should be able to capture more revenue.

“Every AI factory is power-constrained,” said Buck. “And frankly the most important metric is your delivered performance in a fixed watt data center, your perf-per watt. All that comes together in your AI factory revenue. You may rent infrastructure … for dollars per hour but you generate revenue with profitable tokens now, in the hundreds of dollars per hour. Your AI Factory revenue is a function of how many tokens you can generate in a fixed watt data center.”
It’s also a function of the market price of tokens. As the supply of tokens increases – through new hardware that makes token generation more efficient and competing AI providers – there’s downward pressure on the cost of tokens. The hope at Nvidia, and more acutely at the frontier AI labs, is that demand for tokens will increase as prices decline, at a rate that leaves enough of a profit margin to recoup the capital expenditures funding the current datacenter construction boom.
But given reports of companies capping employee token budgets, it’s not clear that every organization is seeing the productivity increases touted by Nvidia and its peers.

Buck offered a back-of-the-envelope calculation to suggest that AI makes developers more productive, but it was more of a thought experiment than a verifiable claim.
Pointing to the surge in GitHub code commits – which haven’t been great for GitHub’s stability – he posited there are about 30-40 million software developers active in the world, which translates to about $3 trillion in salaries.
“They’re now producing three times the output or effectively nine trillion dollars of productivity,” Buck said. At Nvidia, he added, “the number of [code] check-ins and developer productivity has tripled as a result” of AI coding tools.
Buck said that Nvidia uses AI agents for pretty much all of its software development processes. “We use agents also for our chip development,” he added. “Our entire chip bug database is all watched and reviewed by agents.”

The touch interface uses a 10-point system. On Windows machines, you can utilize the entire set of gestures once you’ve plugged in the correct cable, but on Macs, you’re limited to basic click support due to how the OS handles external touch.
