Mary Jo Buttafuoco Reacts to Amy Fisher’s Son Being Arrested

A Complete Timeline of Erik and Lyle Menendezs Murder Case From Arrest to Sentencing to New Hearing

Mary Jo Connery (formerly Mary Jo Buttafuoco) reacted to Amy Fisher’s son Brett Anthony Bellera’s arrest more than three decades after she and Fisher were involved in the “Long Island Lolita” case.

“I have known about this kid and his issues for years now. It’s about time someone has put it out there,” Connery, 71, told NewsNation in a statement on Tuesday, July 21. “This kid never had a chance.”

Connery continued the statement by making a snide comment about how Fisher, 51, now makes money. “I suggest you reach out to his mother at Streamate … a porn site. Are we surprised??” she said.

Fisher made headlines when she shot Connery, who was married to Fisher’s lover Joey Buttafuoco, in the face in 1992 when she was just 17 years old.

Lyle and Erik Menéndez are sharing their side of the story — about the crime, the aftermath and their current lives in prison — more than three decades after their high-profile murder case resulted in a life sentence. The Menéndez Brothers, which started streaming Monday, October 7, on Netflix, features audio from interviews Lyle, 56, […]

Connery survived the shooting, but was left with permanent facial paralysis from the incident.

Fisher, who became known as the “Long Island Lolita,” was arrested for the incident and served seven years in prison before she was released on parole in 1999. She then married Louis Bellera, whom she shares three children with, and they moved to Florida. However, they have since split and she moved back to Long Island.

Buttafuoco, 70, was also arrested following the shooting and served four months for statutory rape.

Us previously reported that Brett, 25, and his girlfriend, Jennifer Armenti, were both charged with aggravated cruelty to animals after their cat, Reaper, was found burned to death in their Fort Lauderdale, Florida, apartment following a December 2024 incident.

It was determined that the cat died after “involuntary heat exposure,” and it’s believed that the cat sustained the injuries from microwave radiation, being submerged in hot water or exposure to hot water vapor, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA)’s forensic necropsy, per WPLG.

Brett was hit with the charges while he was already in police custody on other charges.

WPLG reported that a friend of Brett and Armenti, 36, notified authorities that the cat had died on December 15, 2024. Armenti initially claimed that she found the cat’s body on the bathroom floor and believed he died after ingesting cleaning products. However, animal care employees reported that the cat was found dead on the back patio of the home and was covered in blood while in a laundry basket.

It has been more than four years since an Alabama woman and her daughter kidnapped another woman and brought her to an overlook, where she was forced off of a cliff and died, according to authorities. Now, Loretta Carr, 45, has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Mary Beth Isbell, and […]

Following an investigation into the matter, Brett was charged earlier in July and Armenti was arrested on Wednesday, July 15.

It’s not currently clear if Brett or Armenti have entered pleas in the recent case.

Brett has a history of legal issues and was first arrested when he was 18. He has been charged with drug and robbery over the years, according to records reviewed by the Daily Mail.

Jennifer Lopez’s Forgotten, Extremely R-Rated Sci-Fi Horror Will Scramble Your Brain Into Confetti

By Robert Scucci
| Published

Confession time: I’ve only seen two films starring Jennifer Lopez. I’ve seen 2003’s Gigli, because why wouldn’t I? And one of my girlfriends made me watch The Wedding Planner, which is why I ended up marrying an entirely different person years later. I don’t have any real reason to not follow Jennifer Lopez’s career other than the fact that she’s really just not on my radar, and she doesn’t typically star in the kinds of movies I seek out. I know she’s good in rom-coms, and she’s been praised for her more dramatic roles, but that’s not the frame of reference I was working with when I recently fired up 2000’s The Cell, which is a total nightmare-fueled fever dream that’s more reminiscent of films like Altered States or Beyond the Black Rainbow than anything else.

The Cell is absolutely insane, and I’m saying this with love. At its core, it’s telling a simple enough story once its fiction is established, but it’s the photography, cinematography, score, makeup, and set pieces that truly push this thing to the next level. What starts out as a straightforward investigation quickly turns into a full-blown, kaleidoscopic descent into madness as seen through the subconscious of a schizophrenic serial killer.

Inception Meets Altered States

The Cell 2000

When we’re first introduced to Jennifer Lopez’s Dr. Catherine Deane, she’s seen working alongside doctors Henry West (Dylan Baker) and Miriam Kent (Marianne Jean-Baptiste) on a new technology known as the Neurological Cartography and Synaptic Transfer System. The technology allows her to enter a comatose patient’s mind and talk to them, with the end goal being to convince them to wake up. Her current patient, Edward Baines (Colton James), whose parents are funding the research, has a rare form of schizophrenia, and it’s her job to reach him and bring him back to reality.

We’re then introduced to Carl Rudolph Stargher (Vincent D’Onofrio), a serial killer who has the same rare form of schizophrenia that Edward has, fueling his constantly escalating killing spree and making him a danger to society. No sooner is he caught by the FBI than he falls into a coma as well, which introduces us to two very important key players: Carl’s latest, yet-to-be-found victim, Julia Hickson (Tara Subkoff), and FBI Agent Peter Novak (Vince Vaughn), who’s been trying to put Carl behind bars for as long as he can remember.

The Cell 2000

Knowing that he’s racing the clock due to Carl’s MO of throwing his victims into a cell that slowly fills with water, Peter seeks Catherine’s help and convinces her to use the Neurological Cartography and Synaptic Transfer System to infiltrate the killer’s mind, allowing him to find where a hopefully still-alive Julia is being held captive. Things don’t go as planned, however, as Catherine enters Carl’s mind only to bear witness to the ongoing nightmare that awaits her inside it.

When the data suggests that Carl is overpowering Catherine, Peter enters the killer’s mind, not only to gather the intel he needs to save Julia from a slow, agonizing death, but also to give Catherine the mental fortitude to overcome Carl’s influence over her psyche before he fully takes over and destroys her physical body too.

A Total Trip From Start To Finish

The Cell 2000

What happens inside Carl Rudolph Stargher’s mind while he’s comatose and Catherine and Peter are running through it is something you need to see to believe. My first thought was how much the visuals during the trippier sequences were strikingly reminiscent of Ken Russell’s Altered States. The idealized final form Carl has trapped inside his subconscious (King Stargher) wastes no time letting the viewer know just how troubled the man is, but not in a way that excuses all of the horrible things he did while still fully conscious and somewhat in control of his faculties.

As Catherine peels back layer after layer of his psyche, the whole world they’re living in consumes your entire being as if you’re experiencing these insane moments yourself. It’s the same kind of immersion I felt when I finally sat down and watched Beyond the Black Rainbow. Each sequence melts into the next, and just when you think you’ve had enough, we get sent back to the lab, where doctors West and Kent are toiling away to make sure nobody actually dies in the real world.

While a total mind-melter, The Cell was met with middling reviews, currently boasting a 46 percent critical score on Rotten Tomatoes against a slightly more favorable 57 percent approval rating on the Popcornmeter. It’s worth noting that Roger Ebert not only gave the film four out of four stars, but also placed it on his “Best 10 Movies of 2000” list.

That’s all to say that The Cell may not be the kind of movie you seek out for a casual viewing. You save movies like this for one of those days when you feel like getting a little weird and need something a little edgier than your typical serial killer procedural. I can’t think of anything more perfect than spending a couple of hours inside one man’s sick mind while his next victim is all alone, wondering if she’ll be rescued before she drowns.

The Cell 2000

As of this writing, The Cell can be rented or purchased on demand through YouTube, Apple TV+, Amazon Prime Video, and Fandango.

Love Island USA s Ariana Madix Reacts to JaNa Craig and Kenny Rodriguez s Breakup Drama

Love Island USA’s JaNa Craig broke her silence on ex-boyfriend Kenny Rodriguez’s tell-all interview detailing intimate details about their failed relationship.

“Before I call my lawyers, I would like to make a cute little statement,” Craig, 29, wrote via her Instagram Stories on Monday, July 20, sharing her thoughts on comments Rodriguez, 26, made during the Monday episode of “The Journey Podcast.”

“To the person who thought it was a good idea to send me a cease and desist and go on a whole ass podcast and make up straight f***ing lies, very ballsy of you. How f***ing insane. But if you wanna f***ing play, let’s f***ing play,” she continued. “I think you should give me permission to drop all the text messages … You know everything you said was a f***ing lie. All of our — all of my friends — know it was a lie so I’m not even stressing.”

Craig went on to claim that she “spared” Rodriguez and his public image in the wake of their July 2025 breakup, adding that she has simply been minding her “business.”

Love Island USA host Ariana Madix expressed her support for season 6 alum JaNa Craig amid her recent split from Kenny Rodriguez. “She’s great. She’s always been an angel and a queen and a force,” Ariana, 40, said of JaNa, 27, to E! News while attending the premiere of EA’s new video game Battlefield 6 […]

“You thought that was a good idea? Alright, b****, let’s f***ing play,” she added. “Also, how about you tell your 99-cent lawyers to answer the f***ing phone because what you’re not about to do is ever think you could come for me and get away with it.”

In a separate clip, shared on Tuesday, July 21, Craig told her fans that she won’t be watching the podcast as she had seen “enough clips” online. She also claimed that she “threatened” to call the police on Rodriguez.

“He knows for a fact that I threatened him to call the cops,” she alleged. “That’s the last thing I said to him. Before I was gonna call the cops, he piped the f*** down and then I left and that’s it.”

She also claimed she’s “never assaulted anyone” after Rodriguez alleged she was “physical” the night she found an alleged racist text message on his phone.

“Never in my life have I assaulted anyone. I would never do such a thing,” she claimed.. “There were no daily arguments. We were fine. Obviously we argued because we were a couple, but it wasn’t daily. We were perfectly fine. It’s literally all a lie. I never begged his family for him back.”

Elsewhere in the podcast, Kenny opened up about his statement, saying, “It was a text message with a friend that I had before [the show] and I did say a statement where I generalized and I take full accountability. It doesn’t represent the person that I am.”

He added, “I take full accountability for it. I think it’s a bit unfair. I think it’s a bit unjust. I have black friends, I’ve dated black women before. I couldn’t deal with the disrespect anymore. I understand it could hurt people, yes, and I apologize for that. That doesn’t define me.”

Rodriguez also said, “I made a statement that I’m not proud of, and I take full accountability for it. But I think it’s a bit unjust to take that situation and to have that define me and run with that.”

Through tears, he continued, “Kordell [Beckham] reached out to me and that’s the one person that I have the utmost respect for.” He claimed Beckham, 24, was the only Love Island USA season 6 cast member who he was in touch with after the incident.

Beckham then entered the chat on Monday, posing via Instagram, “@KennyRodriguez We not even gon get on how you sat on that podcast and lied the entire time, but what we not gon do is lie like I condoned anything you did/said. After YOU called me I got that ass and we haven’t spoken since. Shout out my sis JaNa love you for life girl. And keep my mf name out your mouth I don’t fw you bro.”

Many Love Island USA viewers don’t know how to feel following the season 6 reunion — and according to JaNa Craig, the cast feels the same way. “I don’t think we got closure from the reunion, if I’m being honest. I personally don’t like the way it ended. Lots of emotion, lots of tears, lots […]

Craig first opened up about their split in July 2025.

“Hi my loves. Thank you for all your love & support. It means the world to me,” she wrote at the time. “As you know, Kenny and I [are] no longer together. Please know that I have seen all the breakup theories and none have matched up to how terrible, disgusting and disappointing it truly is. Discovering that someone you loved isn’t who you thought they were and that the relationship you thought you were building hasn’t been genuine since day one has been truly devastating.”

Rodrouez then put out a statement of his own.

“Breakups are never easy, especially in the public eye. Sometimes, despite how deeply you care for someone, you come to the hard truth that the relationship was not something that could last long-term,” he wrote at the time.

After seeing his statement, Craig made it clear that they were not on as good of terms as Rodriguez made it seem.

“Stfu you manipulative liar,” she wrote back at the time. “You not taking accountability and telling people the type of person you really are is insane to me!! My first statement was me being nice. Do not piss me off.”

Days of our Lives: Leo Activates Gwen’s Deadly Trap to Destroy EJ

Published

on

Days of Our Live: Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart) - Gwen Rizczech (Emily O'Brien) - EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel)

Days of Our Lives fans. So, right now, Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart) knows if something bad has happened to his bestie, Gwen Rizczech (Emily O’Brien), that EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) is to blame. Plus, Gwen told Leo that her lawyer has a pile of evidence that will ruin EJ and it’ll be triggered on a dead man’s switch.

Days of our Lives: Gwen’s Strategic Plan

Now, if you remember, it’s been since back in, I think, June. But Gwen told Leo, aka Maddie, that if something happens to her, she knows it is because of EJ. And Gwen kind of teased Leo with some hints about the devastating evidence that she has against EJ all about his secret lab stuff going on at the hospital. And of course, we know that Leo has been dying to get the scoop and expose the sick science project EJ’s been doing for many, many months now.

But Gwen also said that she’s not going to give Leo the evidence. Now, that’s because Gwen knows EJ would kill her for outing him. But Gwen also knew that EJ might kill her anyway or kidnap or otherwise disappear her. So, she told Leo that her lawyer has all the information that he’s going to need to bring EJ down once and for all.

DOOL: EJ Betrayed Gwen

Gwen knew that she needed an insurance policy just in case. I mean, after all, EJ had already double-crossed Gwen by cutting her percentage of the profits they expected to make on Dr. Wilhelm Rolf’s (Richard Wharton) Versix serum on the black market, and that’s not panning out. So, they’re waiting on FDA approval to use it for sepsis. But, that’s going to be a long time before the money comes in, and the profits are going to be much lower than black market revenue.

And EJ now has Gwen snatched up presumably. That way he’s not going to have to share any of that money. Plus, EJ was furious when Gwen said she is buying the hospital because Kayla Johnson (Mary Beth Evans) was so happy to tell EJ that the state board decided EJ is out as the owner and that’s when he presumably had Gwen kidnapped.

Now, it might have been somebody else. We’ll talk about that in a minute, but most likely him. That way EJ can make sure Gwen can’t bail out the hospital and they’ll have no choice but to leave him as the owner. The good thing is he knows Xander Cook Kiriakis (Paul Telfer) can’t afford to buy the hospital right now.

Days of our Lives: Gwen Snatched Up

And if you recall, Gwen told Leo that if her lawyer doesn’t hear from her every 10 days, that will trigger the dead man’s switch and then Leo will get all the dirt on EJ. So, last we saw, Gwen’s confident that EJ doesn’t know about this sneaky insurance plan of hers and that Leo can blow him up if he harms Gwen. So, after talking about counterfeit handbags with Gabi Hernandez (Cherie Jimenez), we saw Gwen got the call that she can officially buy the hospital, but then a masked assailant snuck up and grabbed her.

Dead Man’s Switch and Rescue Plans on Days

And later this week on DOOL, Leo goes to Gwen’s room at the Salem Inn, and Leo sees that Gwen’s bed is still turned down. I didn’t know hotels even did turn down service anymore. I guess super fancy ones do and somehow the Salem Inn as well, but that tells Leo that Gwen didn’t come home last night and the maid may confirm it. And Leo just got the go-ahead from Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) to write the expose on knockoff purses and he’s probably going to want to discuss that with Gabi.

And Wednesday, Days of Our Lives spoilers say that Leo and Gabi team up. So Leo may tell her about the Gwen situation when they’re talking about knockoff purses. And Gabi likes Gwen. Plus, she helped her out with this counterfeit thing. So Gabi may offer to help Leo find Gwen.

Days of our Lives: Melinda Working for Gwen?

And then we have a Friday spoiler saying Melinda Trask (Tina Huang) agrees to help Leo. So, I’m wondering if Melinda is the lawyer that Gwen hired to hold her dead man’s switch. I mean, we all know that Melinda hates EJ, so she would be the perfect lawyer to use.

But Gwen’s instructions were to hold the info until a 10-day check-in. However, we don’t know when was the last time that Melinda officially heard from Gwen. So, it may be right up at the 10 days right now. So, Leo may press Melinda to go ahead and hand over the goods to him.

I think it’d be interesting if Melinda can’t give Leo the info right now because of the 10-day waiting period, but he decides to go ahead and leverage it anyway because he’s desperate. So, we could see him going to EJ and telling him, “Give back Gwen or you are screwed.”

Days of our Lives: Leo May Save Gwen

And Leo might tell him that he contacted Gwen’s lawyer. So, if anything happens to Leo, also, they’re automatically going to call the cops on EJ and everything’s going to come out. And the last thing that EJ wants right now is police scrutiny when he’s scrambling with crises due to the arsenic, the Coriseal, and the state hospital board.

So, Leo may be able to blackmail EJ into releasing Gwen because EJ knows that Gwen would absolutely be the type to build a revenge dossier against him. And if EJ disappears Leo, then the info will come out anyway. So, EJ might be really frustrated and will have to cave.

Days of Our Live: Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart) - Gwen Rizczech (Emily O'Brien) - EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel)Days of Our Live: Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart) - Gwen Rizczech (Emily O'Brien) - EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel)
Days of Our Live: Leo Stark – Gwen Rizczech – EJ DiMera

DOOL: Gwen’s Return and Conspiracy Theories

Now, we know that Gwen is not gone for good because in the day’s big summer promo, there’s a scene with Leo, Gwen, Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering), and Dimitri von Leuschner (Peter Porte) in the DiMera living room. I suspect it is EJ that had Gwen taken. It might have been Rita who orchestrated it, but I’m sure it was on EJ’s orders.

The other person who has issues with Gwen right now is Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk), but those issues weren’t so extreme that she would kidnap her. So, in Salem right now, pretty much EJ and Kristen have their eye on Gwen. Also, we have that scene, of course, with Leo and Dimitri and Rafe and Gwen. And we know Dimitri wants to prove that Gwen kidnapped him.

But she might throw EJ under the bus and tell Rafe and Dimitri that EJ took Dimitri and threatened her and then forced Gwen to finance the secret science lab. I think that’s a good angle to work and that could be why Leo’s working hard to get Dimitri to make a deal with him since he won’t make a deal with FBI agent Rafe.

Days of our Lives: Dimitri Behind Gwen’s Abduction?

There’s also a slim chance that Dimitri had Gwen kidnapped even though he’s been gone from Salem a while. Based on the timing though with the hospital buyout, EJ’s the one with the most urgent ax to grind against Gwen. Unfortunately for EJ, even if Dimitri is the one who took Gwen, he may still do the time for his crime because her dead man switch intends to destroy him.

But for Gwen to release that, she knows that EJ would kill her for outing him. So Gwen set it up to release if she was missing or presumed dead. And I’m betting if Leo starts asking around Salem, he’ll find out Gwen was about to buy the hospital and that EJ was livid. And that could lead Leo to go see EJ and try to force his hand to release Gwen.

Days of our Lives: Gwen May Finally Forgive Leo

And of course, Leo might also be talking to Melinda about the counterfeit goods because we know she likes to buy dodgy things online like Julie Williams’ (Susan Seaforth Hayes) stolen necklace. We’ll see how it goes. But I’m excited to see Leo conspiring with both Gabi and Melinda. And both of them might get involved in the effort to save Gwen and take down EJ since all of them hate him.

I’m sure Leo panics this week when he realizes Gwen is missing. And yes, Leo does want to write a juicy expose on EJ, but not at the cost of Gwen’s life. So, we know Leo and Gwen have been through a lot together and Leo owes her some kind of amends after stealing her husband Dimitri. So, if Leo saves Gwen from EJ, then I think Gwen would finally forgive Leo and they’d be besties again.

Trash Can Future Man Saves World From AI Apocalypse In Unhinged, R-Rated Sci-Fi Comedy

Trash Can Future Man Saves World From AI Apocalypse In Unhinged, R-Rated Sci-Fi Comedy

By Robert Scucci
| Updated

My biggest regret this year was not sneaking out to see Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die in theaters when it was making its rounds this past February. It has all of my favorite things in a sci-fi comedy, and having Sam Rockwell lead the charge against an AI apocalypse feels right in every conceivable way. Time travel films are always hit or miss, but there are three golden rules that Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die lives by to make this one a hit: don’t overexplain, keep the pacing up, and situational humor always softens the landing.

Throw in an eccentric ensemble of supporting talent, and you’ll wish you were standing right next to this ragtag group of future-proofing miscreants who one evening decide to save the world from itself.

I’d Love To Be At That Diner

Good Luck Have Fun Don't Die 2026

I’m a family man, but if I wasn’t, there’s no place I’d rather be than Norms Diner when Sam Rockwell’s “the man from the future” arrives looking like he came off a three-week bender, bellowing to anybody who’s willing to listen to his insane rant about how he’s from the future and tonight is the night the world needs to be saved before everything goes to hell. I’ve spent enough time in late-night diners to know that sometimes people barge in acting like this, and you just need to ignore them. But the attention to detail this man has would be enough to convince me to join him on his mission.

The man from the future, who looks like what would happen if Kyle Reese got caught dumpster diving behind a Circuit City, asserts that he has lived this same night 116 times and needs to find the right combination of people to join him before starting his 117th attempt. Following Terminator 3 logic, the man explains that the AI singularity takeover is inevitable and can only be postponed. Judgment Day will always eventually happen, but the end goal is to keep pushing that date further back on the calendar until a definitive way to stop it has been discovered.

Good Luck Have Fun Don't Die 2026

At the diner on this fateful night are Mark (Michael Pena) and Janet (Zazie Beetz), who witnessed the start of the AI takeover when the former accidentally touched a boy’s phone in class, causing it to interface with other devices and kids, forcing them to flee the scene.

Joining in on the fun is Susan (Juno Temple), who has nothing left to lose after her son was killed in a school shooting and replaced with an AI bot that’s nothing like the boy she knew. It wouldn’t be a war against technology if one of our heroes, Ingrid (Haley Lu Richardson), wasn’t allergic to all forms of modern technology and just a little salty about her boyfriend leaving her to live in an AI fantasy land. There’s also Scott (Asim Chaudhry), Marie (Georgia Goodman), and Bob (Daniel Barnett), but their backstories aren’t really as juicy as the others, and we need to remember that everybody’s expendable on this mission.

Good Luck Have Fun Don't Die 2026

Once the team is assembled, the man from the future, who is basically Sam Rockwell wearing garbage and running around like a live-action Rick Sanchez, makes the first goal escaping Norms and taking to the streets, so they could basically beat up the 9-year-old child who perfects his AI technology on this night, commencing the beginning of the end.

The Adventure Of A Lifetime That Everybody Wants To Be On

One of the biggest criticisms I have about movies is when the on-screen talent looks like they don’t want to be there. Don’t get me wrong, our protagonists are all reluctant at one point or another, with the man from the future being the most reluctant of all. But this reluctance comes from their characters’ unwillingness to believe what the crazy man is telling them. When they finally have enough compelling reasons to believe him, everybody’s all in, balls out, ready to save the day because they either have nothing better to do, nothing to lose, or neither of the things that would make any other person weigh their options before committing to the bit. Nobody’s moping here, they’re all in attack mode.

Good Luck Have Fun Don't Die 2026

Sam Rockwell is so fun in Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die because he brings not giving a crap to a whole new level. The man, if we’re to believe every single word he says, must be exhausted from all the time travel and botched missions, and you see him trying so hard to connect with his new group of heroes without going full-blown fatalist because he needs them to succeed in order to break the never-ending time loop he’s trapped in. It’s basically Edge of Tomorrow set in LA, except our hero is wearing old computer parts.

By the time we get to the third act, Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die goes full ridiculous with creature-feature glitter farts, a monolithic mountain of wasted technology and AI ideations, and the man from the future gasping at the revelation that he’s never actually made it this far before. And just when you think things can’t get any crazier, they absolutely do.

Good Luck Have Fun Don't Die 2026

Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die wastes zero time escalating, and then it never stops. It’s yet another cautionary tale about the upcoming war between man and machine, but it’s one of the versions I’d willingly participate in if it ends up being nearly as fun as it looks on screen.

As of this writing, you can stream Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die on Hulu.

Raunchy R-Rated HBO Series Brings New York’s Sleaziest Era To Life

Raunchy R-Rated HBO Series Brings New York’s Sleaziest Era To Life

By Jonathan Klotz
| Published

New York’s Time Square is a tourist attraction today, playing host to millions of visitors to enjoy the mecca of American consumerism. It wasn’t always that way. HBO’s hit series The Deuce, all about the rise and fall of the adult industry in New York City, which happens to coincide with the fall of the Mafia, and a massive, citywide crackdown on crime. It was put together by David Simon and George Pelecanos, both of whom know a little about award-winning street-level crime dramas since they were the creator, and writer, of The Wire.

The Time Period New York City Wants To Forget

The Deuce Season 1 Is Clearly The 70s

The Deuce is only three seasons long. Each season covers a different time period, starting with 1971, jumping to 1977 for Season 2, and then a big leap to 1984. The actual plotlines are fictional, including James Franco’s dual role as twin brothers Vincent the bartender and Frankie the degenerate gambler. Vincent and Frankie is the way into the Mob’s expansion into the adult industry as both soon find themselves wrapped up running Mafia fronts. It’s a bit of a Trojan Horse as the real star turns out to be Candy, a former streetwalker turned director played by Maggie Gyllenhaal in what could be the best performance of her career.

The Deuce digs deep into the lives of characters operating on the fringe of society making it a great companion piece to The Wire. One scene will have you agreeing with a pimp, the very next will make you think that same character is the worst man on the planet. David Simon knows that people are neither truly good or bad, and when even the third-tier background character you took for granted decides that enough has been enough, you’ll appreciate all the time spent getting to know every nook and cranny of 42nd Street.

The Deuce Was The Last Of A Dying Breed Of Television

The Deuce Season 3 Is Right In The Middle Of The 80s

Characters age and change between seasons with each season premiere serving as an explainer of what happened in the years we didn’t get to see. It’s rare that a series aims to tell a short story, and is given the runway by the network to do everything it wants. HBO was happy to be working with David Simon, and it shows, with every episode bringing you back to the gritty, yet bright and lively streets of New York before the tourists arrived.

The Deuce doesn’t shy away from its dark subject matter. Vincent and Frankie’s involvement with the Mob spirals out of control and impacts their family, especially their brother-in-law, Bobby (The Wire veteran Chris Bauer),and runs afoul of their father, played by Armand Assante. Candy’s attempts at going legit often fail to raise up and empower the women around her. The only series that this mix of human emotion and violence can be compared to is, of course, The Wire

The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, Magic City, all came before The Deuce, and since the end of HBO’s look back at New York City, no one’s tried to tackle a show like it. Like the time period it covers, The Deuce is now a relic of a culture that’s been left behind by the mainstream.

Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen’s daughter, Vivian, is her mother’s mini-me.

Vivian, 13, appeared alongside brothers Jack, 18, and Benjamin, 16, in FIFA World Cup photos shared by their dad via Instagram on Monday, July 20. One snap showed the kids wearing matching red and blue jerseys as they posed with Brady, 48, at a recent soccer match. Vivian looked like the spitting image of Bündchen, 46, as she wore her light brown hair down and parted down the middle.

In another photo, Vivian hugged her dad as she sported a dark blue Brazil jersey, representing her mom’s native country.

“What a finale to one of the greatest month-long sporting events we’ve ever seen,” Brady captioned the Instagram carousel. “So happy to share it with my favorite crew.”

Tom Brady may have seven Super Bowl rings, but there’s one athletic arena where he thinks his daughter could outshine him — the Olympic Games. On April 20, the 48-year-old former quarterback took to Instagram to share a video of him and his 13-year-old daughter, Vivian Lake, playing volleyball outside during a nighttime session. His […]

The retired NFL star continued, “To everyone who made this month what it was, friends, family, and the athletes from around the world who stepped in the arena… these are the memories we’ll be talking about for the rest of our lives and I’m glad I made them with you. Sports have given me everything. But watching this one from the other side reminded me why any of us fall in love with sports in the first place. Thank you for the memories @fifaworldcup, see you in 4 years!”

Bündchen paid tribute to Valente, 38, on Father’s Day last month.

“Happy Father’s Day @joaquimvalente! Thank you for leading by example, and for the values you embody, love, humility, integrity, discipline, kindness and consistency,” she wrote on June 21 alongside family photos. “You are an incredible role model. We are all so grateful for you, and we love you so much.”

Earlier in June, Bündchen made a rare comment about her former life in New England with Brady.

“I had moved to Boston and was living a much quieter life,” she told W Magazine. “Earlier in my career, everything was about achievement and saying yes to every opportunity.”

Bündchen continued, “Over time, I began to understand the importance of finding balance. My spiritual practice helped me become more present and more connected to myself. Instead of focusing on external expectations, I started paying attention to how I felt internally. That changed everything — not only my work, but also the way I experienced life.”

In The Real Housewives of New York City season 16 trailer released by Bravo on Tuesday, July 21, Carole, 62, makes her highly anticipated return to the franchise with her signature candor, unmistakable point of view and some rumors about her past.

The Real Housewives of New York City’s season 16 will surely have executive producer Andy Cohen’s blessing. “I would like to tell you that I’m so excited about the cast of The Real Housewives of New York,” Andy, 57, said on the Wednesday, March 4, broadcast of SiriusXM’s Radio Andy. “We have been working on […]

“No!” Carole strongly responds. “You think I’m part of an international sex trafficking ring?”

Carole’s name and past communications with Ghislaine Maxwell previously surfaced in unsealed documents. The Bravo star has never been accused of any wrongdoing.

“Imagine knowing someone and even being friendly with them and then they turn out to be, like, a monster,” Carole previously told The New York Times in March. “The thing about her that made it easy for me to spend any time with her at all was that she was very intelligent, she was educated. If you lined up 10 women and you asked, like, pick the woman who would be involved in an international sex trafficking ring, it would not be her.”

Carole’s past, however, is only a slice of what’s to come in season 16 of Bravo’s beloved reality show.

Sai, 45, Erin, 39, and Jessel Taank are set to join newcomers Hailey Glassman, Erika Hammond and Daisy Toye for a season filled with twists and turns.

“The city that never sleeps lights up when this ambitious group of Housewives takes on another unforgettable season,” Bravo teased. “From the concrete jungle to the sandy beaches of a private island, they work hard and play even harder as some friendships grow stronger, new ones form and others take unexpected turns. When pieces of the past resurface and new tensions emerge, the women find themselves navigating shifting loyalties and fractured friendships.”

Based on the trailer, Jessel, 46, appears to be at odds with Erin when she accuses her costar of being a “one-man Ponzi scheme.”

Elsewhere, Martha Stewart makes a cameo appearance to support her makeup artist and friend Daisy, 45.

“What do you have in this kitchen? Store bought pie?! Oh come on,” Martha, 84, says. “There’s so much to do here.”

Viewers can also count on an unforgettable cast trip, lavish spending and shocking feuds.

“Let’s toast to authenticity,” Sai says in one scene. “Let’s toast to honesty, to living fully in who we are because some of us are not there yet.”

The Real Housewives of New York City season 16 returns on Bravo Tuesday, September 8 at 8 p.m. ET. Stream new episodes the next day on Peacock.
