West Ham United striker Michail Antonio has been involved in a serious car crash, the club has confirmed.
In a statement released on social media the Premier League team said: “West Ham United can confirm striker Michail Antonio has today been involved in a road traffic accident.
“The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the Club are with Michail, his family and friends at this time.”
In a follow up statement the club added: “West Ham United can confirm that Michail Antonio is in a stable condition following a road traffic accident this afternoon in the Essex area.
“Michail is conscious and communicating and is currently under close supervision at a central London hospital.
“At this difficult time, we kindly ask everyone to respect the privacy of Michail and his family.
“The Club will make no further comment this evening, but will issue a further update in due course.”
Images on social media show a smashed-up Ferrari by the side of a road, with the front of the car having completely crumpled.
While there is heavy speculation online that the vehicle belonged to Antonio, there has not yet been any official confirmation.
It is not the first time Antonio has been involved in a car accident, having previously crashed his Lamborghini Huracan in 2021.
The Hammers were not in action on Saturday and are due to host Wolves on Monday evening.
Other Premier League clubs have issued messages of support for the 34-year-old.
Antonio started his career in non-league football and has since risen to become a West Ham United stalwart since joining from Nottingham Forest in 2015.
Antonio began his footballing journey with Tooting and Mitcham before moving into the professional ranks with Reading.
He has also had spells with Cheltenham, Southampton, Colchester and Sheffield Wednesday.
The versatile player has established himself as a firm favourite among supporters at the London club.
Antonio has written his name into West Ham’s history books as their all-time Premier League top scorer with 68 goals.
His recent achievements include helping West Ham secure the Europa Conference League trophy in 2023.
Antonio was also named West Ham’s Player of the Year in 2017.
The 34-year-old has been ever present in the 2024-25 season, making 15 appearances across all competitions and scoring once.
