Jurgen Klopp has revealed for the first time why he left Liverpool, citing the relentless fixture schedule as a key factor in his departure from Anfield.
Speaking at his first press conference as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer today, the German manager explained how the intense demands of club management had left him unable to satisfy his curiosity for the broader aspects of football.
“When you are in the job for 25 years, it’s super intense. The only thing is that I am a very curious person and I couldn’t feed that anymore,” Klopp said at Tuesday’s press conference.
“It was just game after game after game after game. You keep a specific level and I wasn’t extremely happy with that to be honest.”

Liverpool played 58 matches during Klopp’s final season, reaching the quarter-finals of both domestic cup competitions.
Klopp explained his move to Red Bull was driven by a desire to have a broader impact on the sport.
“I always want to try to learn new stuff and I felt when I heard about the role that’s what I would do,” he said.
“I no longer have to improve the game in individual places, but I want to make football better all over the world.
“No longer prepare a new game every week, but work on the bigger picture.”
In his new role, Klopp will oversee Red Bull’s portfolio of football clubs, including Red Bull Salzburg, RB Leipzig and New York Red Bulls.
