Hearts have confirmed centre-back Kye Rowles has signed for Major League Soccer side DC United.
The Australia international, 26, signed for Hearts in 2022 from Central Coast Mariners and went on to make 103 appearances for the Tynecastle side, scoring one goal.
He helped Steven Naismith’s side to a third-place Scottish Premiership finish in the 2023-24 season, securing European qualification in consecutive campaigns.
Hearts head coach Neil Critchley praised Rowles as a “fantastic servant” but described the deal as good for both the player and the club.
The Premiership club say the fee is undisclosed.
DC United announced Rowles has signed a two-year contract, with an option of another year.
Hearts have already signed Jamie McCart this month as a replacement for Rowles in defence, and Lewis Neilson was recalled from his loan at St Johnstone.
But with injuries to Frankie Kent and Stephen Kingsley, Hearts may still look to add to their defensive options.
