The 80-year-old rock star was performing in Athens, Greece, when he spotted something he didn’t like.
Rod Stewart was seen to halt his latest show in Greece and start yelling at a member of the crowd for “spoiling the show”. The 80-year-old was playing Athens over the weekend when he started arguing with a fan mid performance.
Rod is currently on his One Last Time tour and performed 25 songs on the Telekom Center stage in Greece. The legend delighted fans with some of his greatest hits, including classics such as Maggie May, Hot Legs and You Wear It Well.
However, the concert took a bit of a turn as the star spotted something he didn’t like in the audience. While singing his hit Do Ya Think I’m Sexy? Rod was seen to halt his performance after becoming frustrated with one fan who had an issue with another crowd member holding up a sign.
Pointing into the crowd from the front of the stage, Rod screamed into the microphone: “Out the f***ing way. You’re spoiling the show for everybody. Out the way. Leave. We don’t need you here!” He then went on to add: “All she’s doing is putting up a sign. It’s not hurting you is it, mate?”
After telling the fan off, Rod threw the ball he was holding into the crowd and turned his back on the commotion, saying to his band: “OK, from the top… where we left off.” Since the clip surfaced on social media, many people have speculated the Celtic defeat earlier in the day had put a dampener on his mood, reports the Mirror.
On Sunday, December 14, St Mirren were seen to take the Premier Sports Cup from Celtic at Hampden Park in a 3-1 triumph. This loss sees the team in white and green’s season going from bad to worse.
Rod and his wife of 25 years, Penny Lancaster, also recently appeared in a festive documentary on the BBC, opening up about the beginning of their relationship back in the 90’s.
At the time, the singer was reeling over his recent divorce to model Rachel Hunter when he first met Penny. Due to his broken heart, his close friend decided to withhold Penny’s number from the star until he was “fully healed”.
Speaking on My Life at Christmas with Anita Rani, Rod said his friend was being an “absolute gentleman”. He added: “He was band leader and bass player and he kept her telephone away from me.
“He didn’t think I was in the right position because I had just got a divorce and didn’t know if I was coming or going and he said I will give it to you when I think you are ready.”
Penny said after their encounter she thought she would never see the rock star again, explaining: “I really thought that was the last I would see of Rod. I remember processing those photos I took of Rod [at his concert] and thinking, ‘what a lovely memory’ and that was that.”
The couple, who share two children, also opened up about the task of navigating their relationship with the rest of Rod’s children and the blended family dynamic in place.
Penny said: “I tiptoed very lightly. Because there were lots of personalities, and more important there were children ranging from all ages. From Liam who was five when we first met through to teenagers to Kimberly who was just about to turn 21 so it was delicate and they were children from different mothers.
“It was a scenario I had never faced before and I thought I need to stay in the background but be present and there if they want to approach me. I just wanted to take my time and it took a long time.”
Trying to hold back sobs, Penny happily added: “But we got there and we have got to a place that I never thought I would get to with them.” Rod chimed in, saying: “I must admit the kids adore her now, they look for her for advice.”
