Donnarumma urges Italy to hold their heads high after ´painful´ Norway defeat

Wesley’s second-half strike proved decisive as Roma got back to winning ways in Serie A by seeing off Como 1-0 on Monday.

Roma had lost their previous two league outings to drop away from the pacesetters in a congested title race.

Yet with Napoli and AC Milan slipping up over the weekend, Roma moved to within three points of leaders Inter by overcoming Cesc Fabregas’ team at Stadio Olimpico.

Roma had 10 shots in the first half, though they managed to hit the target only once.

Bryan Cristante slammed home early in the second half, after Matias Soule had struck the woodwork with a header, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

But Roma’s winner arrived on the hour, with full-back Wesley arrowing a fantastic first-time effort into the bottom-left corner.

Stefan Posch twice fired wide as Como pushed for a leveller, but the visitors slumped to a second straight defeat.

Data Debrief: Roma keep it clean

Roma’s turnaround last season under Claudio Ranieri was built on establishing some solid foundations, and Gian Piero Gasperini has picked up the mantle this term.

They have kept 18 Serie A clean sheets in 2025, which is at least two more than any other team in Europe’s top five leagues have managed this calendar year (Bayern Munich and Manchester City have 16 each).

Indeed, Roma have won 13 Serie A matches with a score of 1-0 in 2025, at least five more than any other team in the top five leagues.

While generating chances worth 1.6 expected goals, Roma limited Como to just 0.6 xG, and only one shot on target.
