Ruben Amorim claims Manchester United repeated mistake in 4-4 draw with Bournemouth

RUBEN AMORIM claims Manchester United dropped two points in the first half of their pulsating draw with Bournemouth even though they led at half-time.

United were 2-1 up at the interval but Amorim blamed the two goals they conceded within the first seven minutes of the second half.

But Eli Junior Kroupi scored the eighth goal of the dramatic encounter

Evanilson equalised 37 seconds into the second half and Marcus Tavernier put Bournemouth 3-2 up in the 52nd minute.

Even though United scored twice in quick succession to regain the lead only to concede to Eli Junior Kroupi six minutes from time, Amorim rued the dominant first-half performance when United had 24 attempts at goal.

“You can think that we lost the two points in the second half,” Amorim said.

“We should have more goals. It should be a different result at half-time.

Man Utd waste chance to go into top 5 AGAIN in crazy 8-goal thriller

“Similar to Nottingham Forest, we suffered two goals really fast in the second half. But we managed to get back to take the advantage again.

“And then we need to close the game. Again, it was a fun game to watch.

“I think people enjoy seeing Manchester United this season, but we need to put both things together.

“Sometimes closing the games is so important to give more a different choice to everything that we did really well.”

Man Utd player ratings vs Bournemouth

MANCHESTER UNITED fluffed another chance to go fifth in the Premier League as they shared eight goals with Bournemouth in a breathless game at Old Trafford.

United’s 4-4 draw with Andoni Iraola’s side will be one for the ages as both sides were relentless in front of goal, lacked control and were full of defensive errors.

While some in attack can hold their heads up high – not everyone in defence can say the same.

United have gone 1-0 up in five games this season but failed to win and four of those have come since the start of last month.

Amorim’s side have also failed to break into the Premier League’s top five in five of their last six fixtures.

However, the United manager denied the squad had a mentality issue after squandering more points.

“It’s understanding of the moments of the game,” Amorim added. “Understanding that.

“It’s after the half-time, we need to start the second half in the different way.

“So it’s everything together, it’s not a mentality thing. It’s the understanding of the game and how to play the game in different moments.”

Amorim at least took some comfort from United’s attacking approach. They are the joint-second highest scorers in the Premier League this season and are only 14 goals shy of the 44 they totalled last term.

“That is the tradition of Manchester United. Keep going forward, try and score going. If you understand a little bit, if you follow the club, like I follow Premier League for so long, you have not just the duty to try to win the games, but the way you try to win the games.

“It’s so important for the fans. And of course, they are desperate to win, but they all are also, I feel that they are desperate to be inspired when they come to Old Trafford.

“Today was inspiring.”
